"Lovely Day" Alt-J
(Daaaang, do I love writing to alt-j... Ah uwu)
***
In Day6, there were debatably the two warmest people in the entire universe. One would make food (or nag the other members *ahemDOWOON** to -- what, he was good at making ramyeon and meat) and tuck the others into their beds at night. The other would wake the members up in the morning and would make sure that they were never late for their appointments (in particular, Younghyun, who was always sleeping through his alarms ever since his school days ended). And this is how the title of "the two mother figures of Day6" was born.
"Dowoonie!!~" Wonpil softly beckoned as he made his way through the door one evening , a dozen bags of takeout balanced from his arms. "Put on the stove, would you? The food's starting to get cold -- I wanna heat it up!"
"Got it, hyung." Dowoon got off the couch with a groan and passed his finger over the tv remote to pause his anime. "High?"
"Yeah. The stovetop'll heat up faster that way." Wonpil tiptoed over to the countertop so as to keep the dirt on his shoes from tracking into their apartment and somehow managed to set the bags on the surface without spilling anything. "Whew, that was a hassle..."
"What are all the bags for?"
"Promotions are over, so Younghyunnie-hyung's off his diet," Wonpil reminded Dowoon, who nodded in understanding. The keyboardist traded off his shoes for slippers and moved over to the sink to wash his hands.
"So you got him six portions instead of just one?"
"'Course. You know our hyung." The corner of Wonpil's lip turned up into a soft grin and he gently shook his head in a fond gesture. "Can eat and eat and eat... And now he finally has some time to exercise so he can stay healthy and happy with how he feels in his body!"
"Yeah." Dowoon dismissively waved his hand and went back to the couch to watch his anime. "Don't forget to call me over if ya need any help, hyung..."
"Sure." Wonpil gazed fondly at the maknae and then sighed. He had to get to work so he could feed his hungry band mates.
Soon enough, Sungjin walked through the door as well, a heap of papers stacked up in his arms. "Wonpil-ah, help me, wouldja??"
Wonpil hurriedly dried his hands on a dry towel and set the stove sections to low, then made his way over to the doorway to help his hyung out. "Whacha got there, Sungjinnie-hyung??"
"The language sheets we have to study for our next world tour!" Sungjin nervously laughed and watched as Wonpil's smile became a little more forced. "Is gonna be okay. We'll learn in time." Sungjin diverted his attention to the smell wafting in from the kitchen, his nose rising to sniff in approval. "What's on for tonight?"
"Thai food!" Wonpil proclaimed. He and Sungjin set the papers on the coffee table beside Dowoon.
"Hey, hyung," the youngest member sent the leader without looking away from the TV.
"Hey," Sungjin returned with an amused shake of his head. He turned to Wonpil. "Where are Kangbra and Jae-hyung?"
"Hmm... Dunno," Wonpil admitted.
"Have they slept?"
"Dunno..."
Sungjin sighed, massaging his temples. "If they were up til late playing games or hanging out with their friends, I swear--" He cut himself off and followed Wonpil, who was heading towards Jae's room.
Wonpil knocked on the door. There was a grunt in answer, and then the door was opened by a groggy-looking Jae. The guitarist's knuckle rose to wipe the crust out of his eye and he huskily whispered, "What time?.."
"6 pm," Sungjin informed Jae, glad that he had gotten some sleep. "Know where Kangbra's at?"
"...Oh..." Jae sheepishly let his shoulders rise in a question of his own.
"Oh, quit it, hyung," came from the confines of the room, and the sound of a body turning around in bedsheets crinkled over to the doorway. "We were just taking a nap after playing some games." Younghyun sidled over to the door now, sliding his hand over the softly-chuckling Jae's shoulders and continuing in his deep-after-sleep voice, "That food I smell? Smells so good, it woke me up!"
"Of course that's what woke you up," Wonpil laughed out, knowing the power food had over the bassist. "Yeah, it's Thai. Let's go eat!"
Both Younghyun's and Jae's ears pricked up at the notion and they excitedly looked at each other. "Food," fell eagerly from Jae's lips. "I'm so hungry, you have no idea..."
"Not as hungry as me, though," Younghyun growled out, and Sungjin rolled his eyes.
"C'mon then, ya gotta go wash your hands and faces. Wonpil and I will get the table set."
"Cool," Younghyun agreed, and then he and Jae were pushing past Sungjin and Wonpil, Younghyun dragging the laughing Jae towards the bathroom in a headlock.
"They're so stupid," Wonpil quietly laughed out.
"Yeah." A smile slid over Sungjin's lips and he expectantly turned to his dongsaeng. "So, ya ready to go get stuff set?"
"Mm!"
And the two were setting the table in no time, their hands meeting and eyes settling on each other's every few, and maybe sometimes their arms settling around each other's waists when they had to get something off the stove and the other was blocking their way.
