"When does life get less difficult?"
Joowon sat beside her unni at the bowling place, munching on a piece of pizza Soojin hadn't been able to deny her. She slurped up a string of cheese which had unceremoniously spread itself out over the edge of the crust coating her fingers with fine flour and shrugged. "Dunno, unni. Probly never."
"I can't understand your satoori, especially when you speak with your mouth full, aich..."
The younger girl pouted her lips and carefully let her chewed food drop out of her mouth and hit the palm of her outstretched hand. "Unni... I think you're starting to become Soojin-ah!"
Haewon stared at her. The brunette's raised upper lip and crinkled nose revealed her disgust at the younger girl's actions. "You... You really shouldn't do that, Joowonie... You don't know what's on your hand."
"My hand is clean! I just washed it!! And besides, who ever said I'll eat this?"
Haewon was too busy cutting off the last sentence to properly hear it. "Well, right after you washed them, you touched the floor to pick up a coin!"
Joowon stifled a groan and whinily murmured out, "Gosh, when will everyone stop scolding me? Just because I'm the youngest doesn't mean that I'm a baby who doesn't know anything..."
Haewon had to heave a sigh at this one. The drummer was completely right... Leading up to the venue they had planned as the band 'Day6,' all of them had been on their toes. And that meant the maknae had suffered total neglect and constant scolding for weeks on end (or at least that's how Haewon saw it). Who would be able to not get upset after such a sudden shift from 'Joowonie!!! Ah, you're so cute!! Let me buy you some cake for all the hard work you did today!' to 'Joowon!! Your drumming was WAY too slow!! This is the most fast-paced tempo on our track, and all we've been hearing is your lagging pace for hours! Get your head screwed on straight!!'? Not Haewon. So of course she simpered closer to her beloved dongsaeng and placed a sympathetic hand on her studded denim-jacket- clothed shoulders. She was embarrassed that someone like herself could ever even THINK about upsetting such a sweet kid. "Joowonie-ah... I'm so sorry for all the scolding we've put you through... I know you were trying your best the whole time!! And I know we didn't give you the attention you usually receive... That was so mean of us. We shouldn't have taken our stress out on you. I'm so sorry for all we've done..."
Haewon's head slumped over in guilt. Her attentive ears were soon met with a low-voiced laugh. "Unni, it's not like I haven't been doing things wrong, too!"
"But still—"
"Ah, Haewon-ah... Don't take so much pity on her. This silly maknae was being pampered by Jae-unni and Youngmi this whole time, so it's okay."
Joowonie's sheepish smile affirmed Soojin's words. The oldest girl had approached their seats in front of the bowling scoreboard machine from behind just a moment ago, catching the last bit of their conversation. Haewon looked over at her unni, who was holding a tray filled with a vast assortment of snacks and foods. Her jaw dropped. "Unni... I— I don't really want to eat right now..."
"Oh, don't worry, it's for me!"
"All of it?!"
Joowon laughed at the brunette's flabbergasted expression and threw the mush still resting in her hand into the waste bin beside the machine. "Don't worry, unni. Soojin-unni usually gets even more food when we go out somewhere."
Haewon's heart shuddered at the words. Whether it was from bewilderment at her crush's habits or from jealousy, she didn't know (why had Joowon gone out with Soojin without her, again? Ah, that's right: they didn't have swim practice in the evening and often went to the McDonalds down the street with the rest of the band, or to the sashimi place with Youngmi when Jae was busy... or to the movie theater when they were alone... Tough luck...). The girl with the (for once) neat braid gulped and nodded. Then she sipped at her Pepsi to cool herself down while Joowon began to tap their information into the machine.

Fifteen minutes later and Soojin already had 82 points. Haewon followed with 64. Joowon was at a measly 12. "Wow! You have a hat trick now, unni!! That's so cool!~"
"It's called a turkey in bowling, jagiya," Soojin told Haewon as she plopped down onto the chair standing beside their personal side table. The keyboardist's face burned in embarrassment but she still smiled in pride at her unni's success.
Joowon grabbed a pretty turquoise ball from the ball exchange with a desperate look on her face. "Soojin-unniiiiiiii, teach meeeeeee!!!!"
Haewon giggled and stood up to hug her favorite maknae's side. The younger girl gripped the bowling ball she was holding to her chest more tightly and made a fake-crying face which made Soojin cackle. "Well, first... You have to at least hold the ball correctly. See the three holes on the side? Those are for your fingers."
"Ah!" Joowon excitedly grasped the weighted ball with one hand and used the other to shove her index, middle, and ring fingers in the holes. She let go of the bottom and the ball nearly fell onto Haewon's feet. Luckily the brunette jumped away in time... "Oops..." Luckily, there didn't seem to be a crack in the floorboard despite the loud BANG! which had sounded when the ball made its descent to its waxed cedar surface.
Soojin sighed and stood up from her 'snacking seat' to approach the two younger girls. She placed a comforting hand on Haewon's quivering shoulder and steered her away from the apparently-dangerous girl she had been hugging only a few moments ago. "Joowonie... You're meant to keep holding the ball after you put your fingers inside. And those are the wrong fingers."
"I see."
"Yeah. Now pick up the ball, please, before it rolls away. Yes, good. Hand it to me, sweetie."
The drummer stretched the ball out towards her unni and Soojin grasped it with her hands. She nearly dropped it immediately and carefully lowered it onto the floor before her back could give out or anything of the sort (overdramatic? perhaps a little bit). "Joowon... Why did you take a 15 kg ball?!"
"Was I meant to take another one?"
Haewon peered over her unni's shoulder with wide eyes. "How... How did you even pick that up so easily, Joowonie??!"
"Please put it back in the exchange."
Joowon did as she was told and came back with a lighter ball. "I just liked the color," she mumbled out from between her pursed lips before extending the new ball towards her waiting unni.
"6 kg? Much better." Soojin grasped the ball in one hand and demonstrated how to grip the holes correctly with the other. "Got it?"
"Mhm." The youngest girl carefully took the ball being extended to her and tested out her mimicking skills. Her fingers properly slid into the holes and her face broke out into a wide smile. "I did it!"
"Yeah!! Good job, Joowonie!!" Haewon happily cheered. "Now you just have to swing the hand holding onto the holes back and let the ball go when it is in range with the pins again.
"Okay!"
The excitable girl forgot that Soojin was still standing behind her and brought the ball backwards over her shoulder, swinging it above her head instead of waiting to receive the correct instructions on how to properly create a gentle parabola near her legs. Soojin swiftly stepped back when she saw the object heading towards her head, but bumped into a squeaking Haewon. The ball just barely collided with the oldest girl's cheek, and she let loose a cry of pain. Joowon's hand had already let go of the ball as she chucked it in the direction of the bowling alley. "It's not rolling fast??!"
Haewon quickly turned Soojin around to face her and brought her face close to inspect the older girl's cheek. A bruise was forming around the small cut the impact had created just above her cheekbone. It was bleeding. "Unni, oh jeez... We have to get you home. Are you okay? Can you see? Does it hurt a lot?!"
The guitarist grunted and brushed the frantic girl's fingers away from her face. "I'm okay. I just wanted to eat some food and bowl for a bit, and this is what I got, aaaich..."
The destructive girl sporting a messy pony tail and bangs hanging over her eyes finally turned away from the bowling alley, where the ball had rolled into the gutter. As soon as she saw the look on Haewon's face, she panicked. "Did I do something, unni?" she mouthed out in a hoarse whisper.
"Yeah. Yeah, you did something. I love you, Joowonie... But you could have seriously hurt your unni just now. You're lucky you didn't hit her nose or her eye!"
"I... I hit Soojin-unni?"
The oldest girl turned around to calm the maknae down; meanwhile, Haewon dashed over to the table reserved for snacks. "I'm fine, see? Just... Let's not go bowling again for a while. Don't feel like experiencing any more collisions."
Joowon gasped when she saw the blood which was dripping down her unni's face and frantically nodded with her fingers jittering over her mouth. "Unni... What did I do to you?!"
Soojin ignored her. "Let's just go home. We've already payed for everything."
"Let me help you with your shoes!"
"Joowonie, I'm okay!! Stop worrying so much and go put your own shoes on."
Haewon had returned with some napkins and was now turning Soojin around to carefully dab at her cut. The older girl winced in pain. It really did hurt after all, now that the initial buzz of adrenaline had faded from her body. Joowon hurriedly changed her shoes and brought her unnis' over for them. "I'm so sorry, unni; I really didn't mean to!!"
Soojin waved her away and Haewon gripped the maknae's hand reassuringly. "It was an accident, Joowonie, of course you didn't mean it!"
The leader soon sent the youngest girl a smile and she immediately felt at least some sort of relief.
"Let's put our shoes on and go. Joowonie, why don't you clean up the table for now? And take the leftover snacks with you; we can all go to my house so you and I can care for Soojin-unni."
"I'm oka—"
"Of course!" Joowon got to work and Haewon helped Soojin sit down before they each slipped on their own shoes after removing the bowling ones. Then they were leaving their borrowed shoes at the front desk and walking out of the building to head in the direction of Haewon's nearby house.

"You really didn't have to care for me. There was nothing much to worry about."
Soojin winced when the stinging sensation of iodine entered her open wound and her fingers harshly gripped at the throw blanket protectively spread over the keyboardist's couch. Haewon scoffed and dabbed at the cut while Joowon rushed around behind them, looking for the plasters. "As if we would just leave you like that, unni. We care too much about you to just abandon you when you're hurt!"
Soojin felt a warm smile tug at her lips before she grimaced as another wave of pain slid over her. "Thanks. I really care for you both as well... You know that, right?"
And as Haewon grinned at her and smoothed her soft thumb over her cheek, with Joowon yelling out, "I love my unnis so much!!!" from somewhere in the kitchen, Soojin realized just how lucky she was to have these wonderful girls by her side on a daily basis.
