"according to our personal bro code, we have to finish studying before we can go outside."

the boys were practicing for their vocabulary test that would take place the upcoming monday. their teacher had given them a vast variety of vocabulary words, ranging from historical figures to edibles and food items. so on this beautiful, sunny saturday morning, jae was standing in front of the big white board in brian's room, pointing out what he had written on it with a dry erase marker.

bros study before playing, it read.

"but what does that even mean?" younghyun questioned. "how do you finish studying, anyway? is there ever really an end to it?"

jae cleared his throat and continued to point at the words, jabbing the blank space on the board next to them. "yes, yes there is. when we memorize the words so well that we can guess them right after we hear the definition, we can go play."

the younger boy still seemed unsure, but decided to give in because that would probably be easier than arguing with the extremely stubborn park jaehyung. "fine. let's begin."

half an hour later, the boys both sat in front of the board, staring at it with their heads lazily held up by their hands. "i can't do this anymore," jae stated, his glasses beginning to slide down his nose in boredom.

brian looked over at him. the brunette reached over to push the glasses back up the blonde's nose and sighed. "you were the one who said we have to finish learning them before we can go play..."

"well, i've changed my mind." the 12-year-old leapt up from the couch, decidedly pointing his index finger toward the ceiling. "we're going outside."

brian pulled him back down, yelling, "no way! we've already started, so we have to finish!"

jae groaned, grabbing his friend's hand and pulling the 10-year-old up as he stood once more. "nooooooo. briaaaaaaaaan! i'm so tired!! let's go play for a bit and then we can come back. promise!"

"nope." younghyun gripped his friend's hand but refused to follow the older. he resisted jae's tugging and stubbornly stood in place. "we only have to learn ten more words!"

"but i'm so tiiiiiiireddddddd," jae whined, pulling brian harder than before, trying with all his strength to get the boy to budge. but younghyun would have none of it. he pulled back at jae, hoping the older boy would give up. after a few seconds of wobbling, the blonde's hand began to slip, and he could no longer pull at his friend. he yelled as the force from brian's pulling brought them both to fly back onto the couch, jae landing on top of the brunette and nearly squashing him under his weight.

the two awkwardly lay there for a long while, brian breathing in jae's scent and jae breathing in brian's. jae smelled like grass and cookies, brian noted; jae noticed that brian smelled like oranges and pillows. then jae snuggled closer, sliding his arms under brian's to hug him and rubbing his cheek against the younger boy's hair. "fine. you've made up my mind. let's finish studying."

younghyun hummed in response, hugging the blonde back. "good. what was the next word again?" he whispered out, closing his eyes.

"tyrannosaurus rex." jae closed his eyes as well, continuing to breath in brian's fresh smell.

"brorannosaurus rex," brian mumbled, feeling too relaxed to realize his mistake. and jae was already half-way to dreamland, a snore on the back of his tongue.
