Chapter 22
The next night, Goliath went over to Elisa's home to inform her about Brooklyn. Elisa, after she had made Brooklyn's loincloth, had remained at home to allow Brooklyn some space before she went back to see him.
He landed on her deck, folding his wings around his shoulders. Elisa turned about when seeing her friend land, a smile on her face.
"Hello, Big Guy. Any news about Brooklyn yet? Is he ok?" she asked, concern in her voice. Goliath himself seemed pretty down.
"Stressed, Elisa. His poison is gone, and his ribs seem to be healing fine, but seems to be frightened of us. I think Lexington called it PTSD." He said.
This made Elisa frown a little. Brooklyn shouldn't need to be afraid of his family. But no thanks to Castaway, Brooklyn was now terrified.
"I wish to check on him," Elisa said in a determined voice. Goliath took her hand. "He's also scared of humans more now, too. Perhaps you should wait—." But Elisa shook her head.
"No, I can help, Goliath. Brooklyn didn't deserve this treatment from Castaway. Please let me see him," she insisted. Goliath ended up smiling, sometimes it was hard to argue with Elisa.
"Very well, I'll meet you at the medic ward," the lavender gargoyle said, as he turned to glide back to the castle. Elisa phoned Matt and told him she was going to be visiting her friends for the evening, so he agreed to let her take time off.
She then drove to the Eyre Building, hoping that Brooklyn would remember and that his memory of her being friendly would still be there.
...
Hudson was sitting with Brooklyn, who was curled up, shaking in his sleep under his blankets. The elder massaged his shoulder gently. Brook ended up tensing from his touch but settled after a while. Goliath came in then and told Hudson that Elisa wanted to visit Brooklyn.
"Are ye sure, Lad? He may accidentally hurt her since he's so terrified of humans now," Hudson said, watching Brooklyn crying in his sleep from a nightmare.
"As long as you can ensure he's relaxed it'll be ok," Goliath said. The elder then nodded, shaking Brooklyn's shoulder gently to wake him after his twitching stopped and his nightmare ended. Brooklyn's eyes shot open, darting about in fright.
"Get... the humans... away! Don't... let them squeeze me!" He choked, sitting up in his fear. Hudson felt sadness inside. He hated seeing the young one so sad and scared. Hudson knew now that he hated this stress disorder. It seemed to take away any kind of happiness Brooklyn once harbored. And it was all the Quarrymen's fault.
"Easy, Lad. It's just us. But we got a visitor for ye," he said gently. Brooklyn looked at him, eyes rounding.
"W-who?" He whimpered. Hudson stroked his hand. "Elisa, Laddie. She only wants to check on ye." Brooklyn shook his head.
"Oh, no more humans, please. They- hurt me!" He sobbed in his stress. Hudson then took the scared gargoyle into his arms again. Bronx, who was there, nuzzled Brooklyn, who ended up petting him slowly, a little smile there from the gar dog's presence.
"She won't hurt ye. Just visitin' for a moment, but not for too long. I'll be right next to you." He said gently. Brooklyn felt chills in his body from seeing anymore humans, but Hudson's voice sent a small flicker of courage. So he nodded. "Ok, but don't let... her touch me," he said shakily.
Hudson then told Goliath Elisa could come in now. Goliath nodded, going out to Elisa in the waiting room.
"He can see you now. But just be careful with Brooklyn," he said. Elisa agreed, stepping inside with Goliath. Brooklyn cowered in his sheets, eyes big when seeing the female human step into the room, the Quarrymen hurting him still active in his brain.
Elisa gave Brooklyn a gentle careful smile, waving. "Hi, Brooklyn. I'm happy to see you. Please, don't be afraid," she said, sitting down in a chair away from the bed. Brooklyn's breathing was fast and stressed from her merely being in the room with him.
Hudson wasn't going to leave his side. He would make sure Brooklyn remained calm while she was in the room. Someday, hopefully he would trust her again. She was always a human the clan could trust to not harm them.
Elisa wished for Brooklyn to be the happy young male that she knew of him to be, striving to be the next leader someday, if wanting too to find his life-mate. He hadn't deserved what the Quarrymen had done to him. The gargoyles had never done anything to harm them, other than stopping bad guys from harming the innocent and themselves.
"Brooklyn, I promise you that we will all help you get through this after what those horrible Quarrymen did to you." Elisa said gently. "I'll make sure that Castaway is put away for a long time."
Brooklyn cringed even at the mention of the evil man's name. "Please... don't say his name..." he begged. "But... thanks."
"I hope you'll learn to trust me again, Brooklyn. You know I would never hurt you." Elisa stated gently. "I could come and just be here for you so you get used to me, read to you, bring you things you want, if you want me to."
"We'll worry about that another time, Lass." Hudson said. "But it is nice of ye to offer it to him."
Elisa wasn't going to stick around too long this time. She saw that the red gargoyle was too stressed with her presence. "Well, get some rest. We all love you, Brooklyn." She said on her way out of the room.
"What do you think, lad?" Hudson asked him.
"That's nice of her." Brook calmed a little more. "I'm just not ready to be totally with humans right now."
"Don't worry. We won't force ya. We'll do it slow and take our time. We'll get ya up and strong again." Hudson proclaimed.
The fatherly words made him smile a little. He wanted to get over this fear in his head. It was still too soon though. He had only been home for one whole day. But Brooklyn was still afraid of telling his clan of what that terrible human made him reveal, still hating himself for giving into his torturing.
...
In the prison, Castaway vowed that he would get out of here and finish that red gargoyle, along with the others, one way or the other. He would get out of here one of these days. He hoped his poison worked though.
He still had allies on the outside though that could relay him messages if they would see the gargoyles out and about in the city. He would be counting on their messages.
He had it in his mind and in his lineage to prove that all gargoyles were monsters and had to be stopped.
......
A short but not super big chapter. The others will hopefully get a bit more emotional since Brooklyn is still not fully recovered in his mind.
