Chapter 10
In his cage, Brooklyn was beginning to awaken from the sleeping drug. He moaned; his head felt so groggy and hot. Whimpering, Brooklyn weakly opened his eyes, vision so muggy and his stomach threatening to let loose again.
Brooklyn coughed, feeling a bit more awake, a voice speaking.
"Nice to see you awake, little freak," sneered a voice. Brooklyn gasped in fear, trying to stand but felt cuffs on his wrists, and seeing what looked like a cage. Sweat from both fear and fever made him quiver.
"Wh- what...." he croaked timidly, seeing someone come into view. He had a vague recall of being hit by a dart and running away from his family. But the rest of his memory was just blank. The man smirked terribly when he kicked the cage.
"Open up your soft stupid mind, Monster. You're with me, Jon Castaway, in my headquarters." Brooklyn held up his legs, mouth open in terror. Now it all came back; he had been ambushed and taken hostage!
He pulled pitifully on his bonds. "Oh, let me go! You... you can't keep me!" Brook screamed, coughing after. Jon used his bat to hit the cage. Brooklyn flinched. Feeling sick like this kept his courage at bay, making him feel helpless. "Not gonna be happening. You are the one we hit, so that makes you mine to play with until you're dead, which I myself am excited to do..." Brooklyn's tears came nonstop.
"Don't.... belong... to... anybody..." Brooklyn whimpered, causing Jon to hit his cage again. Brooklyn cried sadly from this, beginning to dry heave, cough and feeling hot and dizzy once more. But then, another Quarryman came up, wearing his mask. Brooklyn was so terrified from his situation, cowering away.
"D'aw... you feelin' sick?" The man mocked ruthlessly. Brooklyn couldn't stop himself from nodding, sniffling, looking so sad, wishing for comfort now instead of insults. The guard laughed. "Well, who cares?!" He sneered, knocking his hammer on the bars. This sliced Brooklyn's heart, making him cry more, and wondering now if his clan was still really hating him for running away from comfort and family.
Jon then had the Quarryman leave. He moved near Brooklyn, who quivered, not wanting to be here.
"Enjoy your last home here, pathetic thing. Tomorrow we begin our fun since it's almost sunrise." Brooklyn cried, the sun coming.
"No..." he croaked, the stone covering his skin, feeling one last thought in his head. He also feared being smashed in his stone sleep being in their custody.
Save me guys... please save me! I don't wanna die in this place!
....
Goliath and the others returned to the building before dawn. The others shook their heads when revealing that Brooklyn was nowhere about. Angela was ready to cry, not wanting to see him dead. Broadway hugged her.
"We looked everywhere, nothing..." Broadway informed. Bronx cried silently. Hudson petted his head.
"I know we'll find him. But we'll have to wait until tomorrow," the elder said sadly, praying for Brooklyn to at least find a safe roosting area. But Lex was in denial, shaking his head.
"No... no! I don't want to let my sick brother suffer out there!" He shouted angrily; hands clenched. "Maybe someone took him!"
Goliath put a hand on his shoulder. "Elisa and Matt will be in charge of finding him during the day, and somehow, we'll fix his sickness. We won't let Brooklyn die," he promised. Elisa nodded. She herself was pretty worried for Brooklyn and wished now they thought of something to help Brooklyn to not feel so trapped inside.
Lex nodded reluctantly, looking out onto the city, tears coming down when he turned to stone.
Hang in there, bro. We'll come find you and bring you home!
.....
Xanatos hated seeing the gargoyles in pain like this for their clan member. It was bad enough that Brooklyn had been sick for the past couple of months and a cure just hadn't been found yet, and now he was missing.
He and Owen checked their security camera footage. He had indeed been spotted taking off and he had been rather stumbly while walking. He had taken off toward the west of the city. They would relay it to Elisa and Matt. He had to be somewhere over there.
But Xanatos was tired of waiting. Dr. Sato was doing his best, but he was no help in Brooklyn's case. He thought of someone else who might be able to help. He had split up with the guy a long time ago, but right now, he was about the only other hope Brooklyn possibly had.
Dr. Sevarius must have seen the ingredients in such poison before. He had worked in so many aspects of genetics and anatomy most of his life. And just science matters. He had created a virus for Demona to use after all, too.
David was even willing to pay the evil geneticist a high fee if he would be willing to help save Brooklyn's life.
.....
Xanatos went to Sevarius' house the next morning. He wanted him to be there before he left for his job.
He waited until the man was walking out to his car before he approached him.
"Dr. Sevarius." David began.
Anton looked up in surprise. "What are you doing here? Please don't hurt me."
"I'm not here to hurt you, Sevarius. I came because I need your help." David said.
Anton looked at him questioningly. "What could I possibly do for you since you split with me?" he demanded.
"A high price for helping to save the gargoyle, Brooklyn's life." Xanatos replied seriously.
"What do you mean?"
"The red gargoyle, Brooklyn, he was darted by the Quarrymen a couple of months ago and was poisoned. The clan's doctor can't identify the components to know if there is a cure. Brooklyn's gotten really sick. I know that you must have seen lots of kinds of poisons from different animals and plants. Surely, you are Brooklyn's best hope for a cure. I'll pay you a good price for it." Xanatos explained.
To Sevarius, the payment sounded good. He wasn't fond of the gargoyles destroying his work, but he still held an interest in them.
"So what has he been poisoned with?" Anton asked.
"We don't know. That's what I'm asking for your help for." David replied. "Will you do it?"
"Pay me ten million dollars and you have a deal." The greedy doctor stated.
"Done." David replied. "You'll have it when you come to the castle tonight at my headquarters."
"Very well." Sevarius smiled greedily. "I'll be there at eight."
Right now, Sevarius was possibly Brooklyn's best hope for a cure.
