xvii. RED CARPETS, DAY TWO

JAX, LOOKING AS dapper as he could in the tux he had for years but never really wore unless explicitly needed, stood beside his brother awkwardly as they began to walk the red carpet. His heart was pounding, admittedly, and the flash of cameras made him want to flinch at every moment but he tried his hardest to stand still and not embarrass his brother – no matter how much it tempted him.

And Evan, like always, looked almost angelic as he stood there, used to this. He had years of practice seeing as his teenage years were taken up with flashing cameras and paparazzi following him. Jax let out a small breath as they moved, seeing the comforting smile that his brother gave him. God, could he be any more perfect?

"I have an interview to do," Evan told him as he began to move towards one of the reporters, "Go on ahead until you reach where Roman is – he'll take you from there."

Jax nodded, not asking about anything else as he moved on his own, more nervous than before. He had his brother leading the way, someone who was supposed to be there and knew what to do easily, but now he was on his own and it terrified him – even if he did have flimsy instructions from Evan.

He continued to move, going faster than before and not stopping to pose for the cameras as he had to before with Evan in front of him. No, no media outlet really cared to take pictures of Jax Hollingsworth, the brother of Evan who worked at Olive Garden. And while he loved his job, it was easily better than Waffle House where he'd have to work even if there was a fire burning down all of L.A., it didn't compare to what Evan did or his importance. At least, according to their parents that is.

Letting out a shaky breath he continued on, searching for Roman only to come up empty. He tried not to be deterred by this as he walked, trying to keep his composure calm, but he really wanted to freak out especially with how quickly he could hear his heart beating.

He kept his eyes to where Roman should be, moving slightly to see Joe Keery (oh my motherfucking God) finishing an interview. He knew, logically, it might be awkward to go up to him with heart eyes and everything but he couldn't see Roman and he really didn't feel like waiting and having that anxiety reeking him so he moved towards the man.

As much as he wanted to call out to alert Joe of his presence he didn't in case the man didn't hear him or chose to ignore him and letting everyone – celebrities, paps, his brother – see. Instead, he just walked towards him and decided to see if Joe noticed him instead of going through that embarrassment.

He moved quicker but not too quick as to alert anyone of his presence, catching up to Joe and moving forward slightly. Joe's head turned around and he immediately smiled. "Hey! Jax!" he exclaimed, stopping him.

Thank God, really. He would be so disappointed and sad if the man ignored him. Jax turned to him and smile back at him. "Hey, Joe!"

"You made it," Joe joked, "Come on, where are you going?"

"Honestly? I have no idea. Evan just said that Roman would be somewhere over there," he pointed, "And that he would show me where to go."

"How about I walk with you then?" Joe asked and Jax nodded immediately, really not wanting to be alone and up to his own devices again.

He took another look at Joe, seeing his glorious hair and the smile on his face. God, he was such a sucker but at least now he has a chance to talk to him in person.
