001. Stop Looking At My Sister, You Weirdo

"Why are you always in here?" Carson complained.
Lucy frowned, rolling her eyes. "I have free will."
"It's annoying," Carson insisted.
"She makes a good audience," Hyrum interjected, and Shredder nodded in agreement, looking up from his phone long enough to register what was happening.
"You know, you guys are supposed to back me up," Carson pointed me out. "How would you feel if Mary was in here?"
"Mary's fine," Hyrum shrugged.
"Kenzie, then?" Carson pressed, and Hyrum shrugged again.
"She's fine too. Dunno why she'd be here, but whatever."
Carson groaned, and Shredder snorted. "What's so wrong with Lucille?"
Lucy glared at Shredder, replying, "There's nothing wrong with me, Asher."
"Will you guys shut up?" Carson sighed, tuning his guitar.
"Dude," Shredder mumbled, taking his drumsticks out of his pocket. "You're ruining the fun."
"There is no fun. Everyone's talking to Lucy instead of practicing," Carson frowned.
"Sorry for being friendly to your sister," Shredder shrugged. "What, you want me to bully her instead?"
"No," Carson frowned deeper. He knew Shredder was joking, but he didn't like the idea of anyone other than him bullying his sister.
"Can we just play?" Hyrum asked, absently plucking a string on his guitar. "Leave Lucy alone."
"Thank you, Hyrum," Lucy sighed, leaning back on the wall and holding her sketchbook at arm's length, examining her drawing for mistakes.
"What are we playing?" Shredder asked, tapping a cymbal with a drumstick.
"When's the last time we did I Won't?" Carson asked, frowning in thought.
"Uhh, I dunno," Shredder shrugged.
"Yesterday's practice?" Hyrum suggested helpfully.
"Let's just do I Won't," Shredder said, putting his phone away.
"Oh, shoot, I kinda forgot we were live," Hyrum said, waving to the phone they had set up.
"That makes sense," Carson rolled his eyes jokingly. "You forget everything."
"Anyway, this song is called I Will," Hyrum said, changing the subject and beginning to play the guitar intro.
"No, wait, that's not what it's called!" Shredder cried from the back, and Lucy couldn't stop the smile spreading across her lips.
Hurriedly, Shredder began playing the drums portion of the song, and it went smoothly up until Hyrum's mic cut out.
Hyrum was the main vocalist for the song, meaning Carson took over while Hyrum tried to fix his mic.
"Whoa, I'm hopping on mic for this one," Carson said. "Wait, what are the lyrics?"
"See, it's not just Hyrum that forgets," Lucy spoke up, making Carson roll his eyes as he attempted to recall the lyrics.
"Da da da, da da, da da da da da da da da," Carson sang, making all three boys laugh.
Lucy frowned, chewing on the eraser of her pencil. "Something's not right about this," she murmured, though she could barely hear herself over the music.
The nose was off, she decided, and she went in to erase it. Hyrum had fixed his mic by now, and was going back to singing.
Lucy admired him, though she didn't make it obvious. She just glanced at him for a moment before going back to the nose she was trying to fix.
She wasn't drawing anyone in particular. Just a sketch of a nobody. Some made-up girl.
Lucy fingered her silver guitar necklace as she tried to figure out the correct proportions.
"Hey, Luce, they want you on the live," Hyrum called, and Lucy looked up as Carson groaned.
"Don't call my sister that," he huffed.
Lucy wandered into the frame, waving awkwardly. "It's just a nickname. I don't mind," she shrugged.
"It's weird," Carson shuddered. "He doesn't give me any nicknames, so why should you get one?"
"Carson is not nicknameable," Lucy argued as Hyrum stepped between the two squabbling siblings.
"This is not what they wanted you on the live for, Luce," he said, but upon seeing Carson's withering glare he quickly corrected himself. "Lucy."
"What did they want me for?" Lucy asked, quirking an eyebrow out of curiosity.
"I dunno. What did you want Lucy for?" Carson asked the live chat, and he read the replies. So did Hyrum, from over Lucy's shoulder.
"I guess they just wanted to see your ugly face," Carson shrugged after a moment, and Lucy frowned.
"You're ten times uglier than me. There's a reason why everyone online likes Hyrum and Shredder but not you," Lucy sniffed.
"Plenty of people like me!" Carson retorted, getting defensive.
"Guys," Hyrum said, stepping between them again.
"Stop trying to peacemake," Shredder called from behind them. "They won't listen."
"Nobody listens to you, either, Asher," Lucy replied, making a face at the blonde.
"Shut up, would you, Lucille?"
"Guys, just play your music. No one's here for me," Lucy said, slinking out of frame and back to her spot on the floor.
"I'm down for that," Shredder nodded, banging out a quick bit on the drums. "Lucille has some good ideas."
"Like that was an innovative, never-before-heard idea," Carson replied sourly. "She's just picking fights. That's why she shouldn't be here."
"You're fighting back," Hyrum pointed out, his gaze flickering to Lucy for a brief moment.
"Stop looking at my sister, you weirdo," Carson snapped, and Hyrum jumped.
"I'm not. Gosh, dude, you're pretty crabby today. Wanna call it quits?"
"No," Carson replied forcefully, before sighing. "Well, yeah, maybe. That was really rude, wow."
Lucy was about to make some comment, but decided against it, knowing it would anger him further and she didn't feel like dealing with that.
As the boys ended the live, Lucy cleaned up the new nose, and held it at arm's length again to see if it looked better.
"Whatcha drawing, Luce?" Hyrum asked, sitting down next to her and ruffling her hair.
"Just a person," she shrugged, smoothing her hair down. "I can't get the nose right, though. I might just scrap it."
"I think it looks fine," Hyrum said, studying the sketch. Lucy gave him an are-you-serious look and he nodded. "I'm being honest."
"Well, I might keep it then," she decided, half-smiling at Hyrum.
"Hyrum, stop flirting with my sister and help us put the stuff away," Carson called, and Hyrum rolled his eyes.
"I don't know why you say that. I'm not flirting with her," he scoffed, standing up and shooting Lucy an apologetic smile.
"Next time I'm in practice, you guys should play Chaos Girl," Lucy said, closing her notebook.
"Why?" Shredder asked, and Lucy shrugged.
"I really like it. You shouldn't have cut it from the album," she said simply, leaving the room.
As soon as she was out of earshot, Carson sighed. "You're being really weird with Lucy. Stop," he told Hyrum, who pointed at himself as if to say, who, me?
"Yes, you. Oh, Luce, I think it looks awesome," Carson mocked in a falsetto voice. "You draw so good, Luce. Come on, Luce, they want you on live!"
"I do not sound like that," Hyrum grumbled.
"Yeah, you do," Carson said. "And I don't like it one bit. You'll leave my sister alone if you know what's good for you."
Hyrum rolled his eyes. "Whatever you say."
