Preview: *Title To Be Revealed*

Hey guys, this is my first realistic fiction story. I started it a while back and haven't done much with it, but lately I've been thinking on working on it. So, I wrote this prologue today(10/23/15) and it probably took about thirty minutes. Fun fact- this is based off of my school(that I still happen to go to) and told from my own point of focus. Hope you enjoy. -Europa.

[Prologue]

Autumn stared at the illuminated iPad screen. She knew it was a lot of jumping off and on topic from the notes she had already written, but she believed that she could write it. She just hoped the student who would receive the letter wouldn't react terribly to her writing.

Autumn considered going back to look at the assignment one more time, but she already knew what it said. Write a letter to a future sixth grader about your experience at Deviation Academy.

Autumn glanced over at Ginny, who was sitting next to her. She had written about the same amount Autumn had. She read the first line and was forced to restrain herself from full out bursting out in laughter.

"'Dear new victim?'" Autumn questioned her friend, who had just taken it upon herself to notice Autumn staring at her own writing. "That is literally perfect."

"I know," said Ginny, smiling. "Summarizes up the whole school year."

Autumn barely hesitated a moment before replying, "True... anyway, now I'm going to steal that. That really is awesome."

She selected where she had written 'Dear new sixth grader', punched the backspace button at the corner of the screen, and replaced it with 'Dear new victim'.

After about twenty more minutes of promptly typing on her iPad screen Autumn was finished. She silently reviewed her writing over correcting the occasional grammatical mistake, while Ginny(who had finished before her) was asking Mr. Atkinson a question. Autumn tried her best tuning her out, and focused on the screen.

Deviation Academy has been a wonderful experience for me, and I hope so far it's been great for you too. By the time you read this, you may or may not have worked on one of DA's projects. If you haven't, I can guarantee it's not your typical prototype and presentation. DA pushes you to use STEM and other leadership aspects to blend into your school curriculum using many different methods; no project is exactly alike. The projects are hands on and can be very fun, but they also can be stressful. I remember numerous times where I had just a few hours left for my group and I to complete our project and I nearly just lost it. But if you are on task, I promise you will get through with a good grade.

The bit Autumn wrote about being on task means getting a good grade almost seemed ludicrous to her. She knew she was lying through her teeth. But it was something Mrs. Krause would look for when she sifted through which letters would be given to students, or so Autumn was told.

I'm not saying this school will be generally easy, you will have homework and tests just like any other school. There is so much that you can achieve in this school. For example, in my sixth grade year I learned how to use a green screen; I also understand how Minecraft can be used for educational purposes; and hands on learning makes more sense to me.

Autumn had to fight her urge to add how just recently she'd learned how to use semicolons. As you can see above, Example "A" and Example "B".

DA also provides higher math programs, one third of the grade receives the chance to take a Pre-Algeabra class instead of regular sixth grade math.

Our school also has many different types of technology. As I assume you've been told many times by Mrs. Keaten, "It's a tool, not a toy." Though I am gracious for all the different opportunities I have received here, like working with MacBooks, Robots, Cameras, and of course iPads. Unfortunately, this letter is now coming to an end. I can't wait to see how far you come here at Deviation Academy!

After Autumn had completed editing, she came to the conclusion that her letter was sufficient. Without a shred of doubt, she hit the assignment turn in button on her tablet. Autumn couldn't cease thinking about how she would've reacted if she received a letter like this at the beginning of her sixth grade year. Hers, along with the rest of the Sixth Grade's, had been unfortunately, lost in the move from the old Wellbrook building to Hefton.

Maybe it would've prepared Autumn better, or given her something to expect. The year had been pretty hectic, after all. But she knew one thing for sure, she wouldn't change anything about her school year at all. She'd almost been in school ten months now. The harder times were in the past. Maybe, from here forward the roads would be clear.
