So the votes were very decided on these two, and I said I would publish two, so thanks for making it easy! Here ya go!
1. Sorcerer Prince
It seemed like a wonderful idea at the time. Pete's eldest brother, Vilion, got hybrid ranks and numbers so the three of them could live in the Sorcerer kingdom without fearing the guards. Matt never knew the punishment for having fake identities was so dire.
However long a fugitive lived under fake documents, that was how long they would be put in jail. The consequences become very harsh extremely quickly. It's so bad now because Matt, Choco, and Pete lived a lifetime under those fake documents.
After Matt was freed from his overseer, he never thought much about what being half robotic would really mean. He was just happy to live his life with the others. Later when it became noticeable, Matt could never figure out exactly when his clock stopped. It had to have been when they were still in the lab. Of course he had aged and gotten older since he was brought to the lab at five, but after he became an adult, he just stopped changing.
Matt still tried to look past it and live in the present. He got to watch Choco loose his insecurity and propose to a girl that he loved. Matt got to see Pete grow up with all his siblings around him, and become one of the first builders of the solar lights that would become so popular in the Sorcerer kingdom. He taught Choco's daughter how to read. He carved all seven of the gravestones for Pete and his siblings.
Yes, Matt saw it all. He was still thankful for being able to laugh and morn, but the passing of time weighed heavily on his heart. He mostly dedicated his time to the grandchildren of his dearest friends. He was happy, even with the long years.
When some old documents were discovered as fakes, officials didn't expect to actually find any of the three alive. They just went to the big three story manor to fine the family for a small fee. Matt had to calm down 12 crying children when they found him there. He wouldn't put any of them in danger by refusing to leave with the guards. They had finally caught up from when he broke their spears on the docks. He could easily escape if he wanted, but he had already lived a long life without justice.
This was the time of the immortal Sorcerer King, with a dark shadow at his side. He felt threatened by this other long-living monstrosity, and sentenced Matt to three life sentences in the darkest part of the castle dungeons.
Matt's robotic half was still very much commanded by his own systems and protocols. After both his batteries were low, and there was no sign of sunlight, he was shut down. Only the rare flicker of torchlight kept his body from completely dying.
Decades passed. The Sorcerer King was defeated, the shadow was freed, and the king's descendent and pregnant wife took the throne. Matt's existence was now just a story.
Slowly, ever slowly, Matt became more aware as his batteries filled back up past a certain point. He was still incredibly weak, and could only look around in confusion. His arms are hanging from rusting chains on the wall and he's bent over on his knees.
Past the iron bars do his cell, a single lantern sits with a bright flame. It must have been there a while in order for Matt to reactivate. He's shocked to see the young boy sitting crossed legged and watching him. They can't be much older then six. He has big, brown eyes and a purple cloak that's much too big for him.
"Whoa..... you're awake!", the boy says, scooting closer to the bars and pressing his face against them. "What's your name? My name's Seto, and I'm going to be a sorcerer one day!".
2. Obsidian
One month. One entire month has gone by since Rob disappeared. He's not dead. He can't be dead. It can't all be over right when Preston remembers it all again.
For so long, Preston thought he was nothing without the lab. He spent years of his life doing whatever they wanted him to do. He thought that he didn't have any sort of past, family, or even his own life before the lab. He was wrong.
The lab targeted Preston because his dad was a weak fire sorcerer. Although Preston didn't inherit the gift, he still had that spark of fire in his blood. Many before him died in the magma trial. Rob has even less of the fire, but they were alone together when the lab made their move.
Preston never knew why he trusted Rob so much during that first escape when they were all so little. It's kinda ironic how their roles switched to such a degree. Preston was always looking out for Rob and protecting him.
Rob was born blind. It wasn't some accident caused by the lab. Their parents did their best to make sure he had as normal as a life as he could. Preston would always be there to help him and keep him from getting lost. By the time they were captured, Rob could walk around their house and yard without even bumping into anything. The two boys would play tag in the yard just like any other kids.
Preston hasn't been back to see his parents since that day. He can't face them again without Rob at his side. It was his job to protect him. Why didn't he protect him!? Why does everyone get a happy ending except for his brother? Rob never did anything to hurt anyone; he only wanted to help.
Maybe that's why he did it. Did Rob feel so useless to the rest of them that he felt like he had to sacrifice himself? His few abilities are all meant to hide or runaway. Rob doesn't have venom or super strength to fight in a battle.
Preston hugs his knees a little closer to his chest, shivering at the chill breeze. None of his lava glow is showing through his skin. For the first week after the festival, he couldn't even calm down enough to care that he was nothing but lava. He started a few fires on accident in his rage, but now he feels all burnt out. There's nothing he can do.
He used to think that water burns were the worst pain he could feel, but he was wrong about that, too. Preston sits on a sandy beach. He's just close enough to the water that a few stray drops of the spray lands on his skin. If he could muster up the care, he'd be interested that the water isn't burning him anymore with how low his core of lava is burning. He's never been so cold before.
It's the middle of the night, dawn still a few hours off. Preston is staring blankly out at the horizon. He doesn't notice when someone walks up behind him, but the tap on his shoulder makes him jump a little.
"Um, hey, I'm a little lost. I was wondering if you could point me in the direction of the capital? I have some friends there who are waiting for me". The man is soaking wet, but he doesn't seem too bothered by it. His hair and hoodie are both plastered to his body. The blinking stripes on his neck look a lot brighter in the darkness.
Preston can't process the scene for several moments. Rob looks at him, a little confused and wondering if he did something wrong. He's still trying to get used to his new sense.
"Rob!". Preston is standing up so fast that he nearly pushes them both over when he clings to his brother for dear life. His skin erupts into burning lava, and Rob's scales quickly grow out to protect him. Rob is the shocked one now. He couldn't recognize Preston until he spoke or transformed.
"Preston, you're burning yourself!", Rob quickly realizes the problem and pushes his brother back at arm's distance. Rob's wet scaler were burning his lava skin.
"I don't care. I thought you were dead! Are you alright? Where have you been?", Preston says, nearly crying. He looks closer at Rob, taking another look at his eyes. One of them is a foggy blue like it's always been, but the other is a clear, electric yellow. "Can..... Can you see me?".
"Yeah, I can". Rob smiles, also crying. "It must have happed somewhere between being electrocuted, and living in a battery for month".
"Do you know how badly you scared everyone?", Preston narrows his eyes a little. He playfully punches Rob in the shoulder, not even hard enough to hurt.
"I know, I know. I was taking my own sweet time. Wanna see something cool? I think I know what my real ability is now". Rob steps back a little and holds up his hands again so that his palms are facing each other. An electric current sparks into life and zaps across the space between his hands. "I can help fight now, although there's not much left to fight".
"I don't care if you can fight or not, just don't leave like that again", Preston says. He hugs Rob again, most of the water being evaporated from the first.
Everyone has gotten their happy ending.
