Chapter 20- The Warrior Ceremonies

Brokenpaws POV

A bright light filtered to the dry leaves and branches of the apprentice den. I squint at the blinding light my eyes slowly adjusting. 'It must be dawn,' I muse tiredly.

"Brokenpaw," mews the slender brown warrior who poked his head up, his purple orbs blinking out sleep. My heart pounded. I've been ignoring him for the past three days. I don't think he knows I heard him say he loves me.

A tail tip tickles my black and white ears, snapping out of my thoughts. His eyes pleading he mews,"do you want to go hunting with me?" I look at my paws and nod slightly.

"Oh! Wow lets go!" His whisper perks up with excitement and he squeezes quietly out of the apprentice den. I follow him quietly, nervously tripping over twigs and even a patch of grass in the clearing.

'Get it together Brokenpaw, he just wants to go hunting,' I scold myself critically. We both nod our heads to Lilystream , who was guarding the entrance, and squeeze through the bramble entrance, into the crisp frosty air of the forest.

"Let's hunt by the lake it's supposed to be teaming with mice,"I mew quietly before taking a sandy path towards the lake. He nods in approval and pads on after me. "You know that you're going to be a warrior soon,"declares Hickoryblaze. I haven't even thought about it really. My fur spikes with excitement.

"I know, I wonder what my warrior name will be,"I mew happily, glad at the old comfortable feeling of being with Him has seeped it's way back in.

"Probably Brokentoes, since you nearly broke your toes the other day trying to catch that squirrel and climbing a tree at the same time," he teases lightly, draping his long tail over my shoulder.

"I think you should have been named Hickoryface, because I'm about to make your face look like a Hickory tree," I hiss playfully butting my head into his soft shoulder. He turns and leaps in front of me where our faces are so close I can feel his breath brush against my cheeks.

"Now you know you'd never try to mess up my handsome face," he smirks and waggles his eyebrows.

I touch my nose to his nose, surprising us both, and murmur,"I would never try to hurt you, Hickoryblaze." His eyes filled with love he brushed his cheek against mine.

"I know, Brokenpaw do you remember that night.." He trailed off before staring into my warm Amber eyes. I nod nervously, unable to speak.

"Well I just want you to know that I meant it, th-that I would never love any other cat, but you!"He mews, his voice trembling. I feel so overwhelmed that I gently lick his forehead.

"And I will never love any other cat but you, Hickoryblaze," I finally declare with him and also myself. 'Hes the one,' I think happily. Suddenly my belly rumbles loudly and I let out an embarrassed hiss.

He chuckles while intertwining our tails together," come on let's go hunt." I smile and sprint towards the lake silently. Making no sound so that the prey couldn't hear us coming. Finally when I scent the huge stretch of water I slow down to a stop. Hickoryblaze skids to a stop beside me, barely even tired.

"I'll hunt on this side of the path while you hunt on the other," I whisper flicking my tail to the left towards the Windclan border. The brown warrior nods and stalks off towards Shadowclan territory.

Tasting the air and pricking my ears I catch the musky scent of a mouse. 'Wait is that two.. Or three,'I question at the abundant of mice scents that filter through my nostrils. Crouching down I catch the sight of a huge hoard of mice burrowing into a dry hollow log.

'These could feed the clan for ages,' I tingle with excitement and crouch down. 'One two three," I leap into the hoard of mice clawing and biting whatever I can, nearly killing all of the frozen and shocked rodents that couldn't move.

I sink my teeth into the atleast twenty mouse tails, trying to carry the heavy load back to the path. As I finally get all the warm rodent bodies on the path

I catch another exciting sight. Hickoryblaze had atleast twenty or more mice in his jaws as well!

"The clan is going to make it through leaf bare!" I yowl happily," come on let's go back to camp and feed the clan!" We try to pad as quickly as the freshkill in our jaws allow us and burst through the clearing!

"Everyone! Come feast on the mouse nest we have found!" I yowl as I set the hoard of dead mice down in the middle of the clearing.

"Wow great catch Brokenpaw!" Praised Tigerstrike warmly,"you have grown into a fine apprentice!"

"Wow that's a lot of nice for lead bare," rumbles Dustfur as he noses through the pile of mice.

"Yea you should be a warrior by now!" Mewed Foxtooth. Sootfeather, and Loudowl nodding with approval.

I warmly purr," anyone could have done the same, even Hickoryblaze killed as much as me," I say glancing approvingly at the slender brown tom who purrs in reply.

"Hickoryblaze or not you have done a great job," purrs Frostfang who intertwine's his tail with mine. I stiffen and glance at Hickoryblaze that is glaring purple daggers at the white warrior. I shuffle away untwining out tails and try to purr.

"Thank you Frostfang," I choke out a raspy mew. Frostfang looks at me quizzically, hurt rippling along his face as I untwined our tails.

"I uh think im going to talk to Wildstar about you becoming a warrior. The killing of the mice hoard was a successful warrior assessment anyways. All the other apprentices have had theirs," he mews before bounding over to Snowbreeze and Wildstar.

Wildstar glances at me, her green gaze gardening before stiffly nodding. She bounded up onto the high rock and called out,"Let all cats old enough to stalk their own prey, gather beneath the highledge for a clan meeting!"

The clan quickly grabbed the mice and set the dead rodents down on the freshkill pile, waiting for the feast to happen after the ceremony, before padding under the rocky outcropping of the highledge.

"Blossompaw, Dewpaw, Lionpaw, and Brokenpaw step forward," she beckoned before she gracefully bounded back down from the highledge.

"I have called this meeting today to declare these apprentices as warriors,"her gaze looked into each clan members eye before addressing the apprentices mentors," Raindrop, Brackenleaf, Frostfang, and Hawktalon. Do you all believe that these fine apprentices are ready to be commended as full warriors?"

"I do," the older warriors said in union.

"Very well, Blossompaw step forward." The dark tortisehell she cat shuffled over nervously, her brown and gold flecked ears flicking back and forth.

"Do you, Blossompaw, promise to uphold the warrior code and understand and will use it to protect your clan even it costs you your life?" The larger tabby and white queen questioned.

"I-I do," stutters the younger she cat.

"Then with the power of Starclan I give you your warrior name. From this day on you will be know as Blossomdapple. Starclan and Thunderclan honors your courage and calmness and commends you as a full warrior."She rests her muzzle on the younger warriors head who licks her shoulder.

"Blossomdapple! Blossomdapple! Blossomdapple!" Yowls the clan with joy. The young warrior's blue eyes shine with happiness and pads to sit by her former mentor Raindrop.

"Dewpaw step forward please," rumbled Wildstar.

The young gray and white patched tom stalked forward confidently. 'He must have gained confidence because Hawktalon was his mentor,'I notice.

"Do you, Dewpaw, promise to uphold the warrior code, and understand it, and will use it to protect your clan even if it costs you your life?"

"I do Wildstar," Dewpaw confirmed, his chin held high.

"Then by the power of Starclan I give you your warrior name. From this moment on you will be know as Dewfoot. Starclan and Thunderclan honors your bravery and cunningness in the fight." She rests her muzzle on his head and he licks her shoulder roughly.

"Dewfoot! Dewfoot! Dewfoot!" Chanted the clan. The gray and white patched warrior padded over to Foxtooth, shyly twining his tail with hers. 'Mates?' I question.

"Lionpaw step forward," the tabby and white leader rips me away from my thoughts, leaving me to be the last one to be declared a warrior.

"Do you, Lionpaw, promise to uphold the warrior code and understand it and will use it to protect your clan even if it costs you your life?" Wildstar rumbles.

"I do," he growls confidently to my surprise. I notice how he looks like a full grown warrior instead of an apprentice, his thick muscles bulge out of his fur. 'Wow, he has grown up.'

I suddenly grow nervous, my paws automatically kneading the soft earth. A soft tail raps around me and I look over to see a pair of loving purple eyes staring at me approvingly. I lean into him and touch his nose.

"-you will be know as Lionroar! Starclan honors your bravery and passion to fight for and protect your clan and commend you as a full warrior of Starclan." She rests her muzzle on his head and he licks her shoulder.

My eyes widen,'what a powerful name,' and realize it's my turn as the clan chants Lionroar's new name.

"Br-Brokenpaw step forward," stutter my mother as the chants died down.

I look at Hickoryblaze who nods with encouragement filled in his gaze, and step forward to stand in front of my mother. I can't meet her gaze.

"Brokenpaw your warrior training was delayed do to your unfortunate injuries along with being captured by the rogues," she hisses," but you have shown how strong you are and how you can over come any obstacles that are thrown into your path."

"Thank you Wildstar," I whisper, looking at my paws.

"Do you, Brokenpaw, promise to uphold the warrior code and understand it and will use it to protect your clan even if it costs you your life?" My mother asks.

"I do," I declare determinedly, looking into her hard green eyes.

"Then with the power of Starclan I give you your warrior name. From this moment on you will be know as Brokenflight! Starclan honors your determination and willingness to server your clan and commend you as a full warrior," she declares while setting her muzzle onto my head, I licking. Her soft shoulder in return.

The clan started chanting, Hickoryblaze being the loudest. But everything started turning into a blur. I started hearing wailing and the sky and forest turned red and black before my eyes.

"The one who was broken in flight will rise! But beware the wing that is dipped in blood. It will rise until it's thirst for power is filled and blood is spilled!" The loud wail filled my ears.

"Save usss! Save ussss!" Wailed unknown cats.

"I'm coming! I'll help you! Stay there!" I yowl out trying to sprint towards them. Bloody feathers and dying birds started pelting the earth, piling down on me to where I can't breath.

"Help!" I gasped.

Everything went black.
