Chapter - 16

"This is your last chance Neil. If you ever hurt Myra, I will take her away from you. You better be careful." Neil remembered his father's words just before they leave from hospital.

He looked at girl sitting on the back seat of the car with his son. Her gaze was fixed on his son who was holding her little finger and continuously putting in his mouth. Whereas Myra was busy guiding him not to do that explaining there will be germs on her finger which will go in his body.

Neev's gaze went to the bandage on her wrist where earlier doctors had put saline. He held tightly being inquisitive which earned hiss sound from Myra in pain. Neev immediately released his hold and took his hand back staring at his mother's painfull face with wide open eyes.

In a moment, Myra' s eyes filled with tears. Looking at her teary eyes, Neev protruded his lips. He was on the verge of crying.

"No Neev. It's ok. It's fine." Myra cupped his face with other hand.

But still her son was not convinced and tear rolled over his chubby cheeks.

"See nothing happened to Mumma. Mumma is all fine." Her gentle voice gave some assurance to her possessive son. He kept on looking at her bandage.

"No. No" he shook his head cutely.

Myra smiled at his gesture.

Now, he was brushing his little fingers on white piece of cloth with brief touch. His feathery touch gave goosebumps to his mother and her lips stretched with smile.

"Mumma" He raised his hand to touch her chin.

Neil was observing two from rear view camera, he did not intervene but kept on giving glances in the mirror. He was trying his hard to keep his eyes on busy road. His heart was filled with satisfaction. Along with him there was someone who loved his son unconditionally just a simple feeling filled his heart with peace.

Neil parked car in parking area. He came out and taking round he opened back door for Myra. She turned to take Neev.

"You come out. I will carry him." He knew she had fresh wound on her wrist.

It will be painful for her to hold Neev.

She did not meet her eyes with him but followed his instructions.

Three entered inside and were welcomed by Julia. She came forward to pull Myra in bear hug.

"I am so so happy that you are back." Julia caressed her hairs with motherly love.

One pair of eye were looking at them with utter shock. His open mouth and wide eyes were clear representation of his baffled state.

"You need rest. Go to your room. I will get nice warm chicken soup for you. You will feel better."

"Thanks Julia Aunty"

This was the first time Neil observed Julia and Myra's interaction.

'She call her Aunty?' It was more like a question Neil asked to himself.

He had seen Julia from his childhood. She was his Nanny cum caretaker. He respected her, cared as well as loved her but he, himself never called her as 'Aunty'.

"Mumma" Neev called out when he saw his mother busy with Julia.

His son did not like when his mother get engrossed with someone else. He is such a attention seeker.

She turned to face Neil. His face was still masked with surprised expressions.

Neev immediately jumped in his arms to go to his mother.

"Neev, stay here baby. She is hurt."

Neev turned to look at his father with creased forehead.

His father pointed towards her wrist where there was bandage.

"It must be painful for her. Doctors gave her needle." He hoped 9 months old son to understand.

"It's ok. It's not paining." She came with raised hands to take her son.

"No" Neev turned and snuggle in Neil's neck saying "Dadda."

For one moment Myra felt jealous of father and son's bond which immediately reflected in her eyes. She twitched her nose rolling her eyes.

Her antics were observed by her husband. He pressed his lips to suppress his chuckle.

'Now you will understand how I felt from last couple of weeks when he called you Mumma for the first time and not me.' He tapped his son's back.

He jerked with his own thought, 'have I start accepting her as My son's mother?'

"Myra are you going upstairs? Please go. You need rest" Julia asked.

"No I will stay here." She did not want to leave her son.

"Ok but then take a seat, you should not stand for long. You are still weak my child." Julia made her sit on couch of living room. Neil settle down in front of her on another couch.

Neev was in his lap. He made efforts to get down. He crawled over to his mother and stood holding support of the couch.

"Mumma"

This time Myra could not control, her heart elated every time when he called her as his mother.

She picked him up and clutched his little figure.

'You are the only one I have in my life whom I can call as mine. My baby. Please please don't leave me.'

Her grandmother's and mother's face replayed in front of her eyes which immediately filled with tears. She batted her eyelashes to push back tears but failed.

Neil was pretending to read emails from his phone but his full concentration was on his wife and son. He saw one tear stream fell on her cheeks. He thought due to her hold on his son she felt pain.

"Give him to me. Is it hurting?" He pointed at her bandage.

She nodded her head in negative.

"You should be careful." He mumbled.

Julia set dinner for three. Myra insisted for help but Julia strictly warned her and made her sit on dining table for dinner. After almost three months of marriage, Neil, Myra and Neev had a dinner time as family.

"Julia aunty you can also join us." Myra suggested.

"No first you three have it. I will have it later."

"It's not good for you to have late dinner for your age Aunty. Please I insists." Neil was silent spectator.

Bonding between Myra and Julia, compelled him to drove in memory line of his bitter past. His mind again compared two sisters.

Meera and Julia.

Julia was never close to Meera, they both shared relation of owner and servant. Meera never left a chance to show Julia her place in their household. Where as Julia, she kept herself busy in her work not meddling in their marriage. She kept enough distance with Meera.

'But Myra, she is treating Julia as elder of their home. A family member.' His eyes landed on her who was feeding Neev his mashed veggies as dinner. He had seen Julia's concern for Myra oozing out through her behaviour over a period of time.

This was a dream Neil had seen with Meera but he was living the same with Myra.

'Dad is right, I have to take Meera out of my system. I can't allow her to destroy my present and future.'

His eyes took brief look at his wife and son who were busy in their own world.

Julia was observing Neil, she had seen him from childhood. Being childless woman she showered her motherly love on Neil over his life. Her lips stretched with small smile looking at his eyes.

'Please god give these two one chance.' She prayed silently in her mind.

On insistence of Julia, Myra came back to her room to rest. She made Neev sleep on her bed besides her. She covered him under blanket. She was caressing his hairs and kissing his forehead with love.

Down in the living room, Neil was pacing engrossed in his thoughts. He saw Julia going towards her room. She was giving him silent treatment after knowing his last night's deed.

"Julia" he called her.

"Do you need any thing Neil?" She came to him.

"No... I don't need but... but these are Myra's medicines. Can you pass it to her?"

"Ok. I will give her tomorrow."

"No, but I guess one dose must be due now. Doctors said after dinner she should take it."

"Your room is just beside her. Why don't you give it to her instead of asking this poor lady to climb up stairs." Julia wished he would accept.

"Yes. That's right. Good night." He turned and taking stairs he stopped in front of her room.

Julia chuckled shaking her head. 'You have hurt her Neil. You have to heal it now. Then she will mend your broken heart.'

Myra heard hesitant knock on her room door. She went to open the door to find Neil in front of her.

"Your medication. You forgot downstairs." He handed over one packet.

"Thanks" she looked everywhere but not at him.

There was dead silence for almost 2 minutes.

'Why is he not going?'

"Neev slept" She replied after a thought.

"Ohh ok"

He turned to go but turned back to her again. "You have to take one dose now. Hope you will feel better soon."

"Thanks"

He turned to go when she called him. "Neil"

He again turned to face her.

"It's a request." She gulped not meeting her eyes with his creased ones, "Can we stick to our earlier routine of avoiding each other?"

He hummed in response reluctantly. This time he did not want to avoid her. Small moments he spent with her during this day he wanted to relish them, live them again and agin. But he decided to give her space and time.

'I need to earn her forgiveness.' He entered inside his room with thought.

Next day, Myra was sleeping but her sleep got disturbed with some noise and taps on her cheeks, she got up to see his baby was awake and was playing with her hairs.

"Neev, how come you woke up so early? My baby was supposed to be sleepy head." She pulled him in her embrace to cuddle.

She tried to make him sleep but he was in his playful mode.

Soon he started sucking his thumb, over these days Myra had understood this was his gesture to tell him mother that he was hungry.

Finally she gave in, taking him in her arms she came downstairs to come face to face with her husband who was all ready to go for his office.

Earlier Neil had decided to stay at home or work from home till Myra becomes fit and fine but last night's her request compelled him to change his plans.

He raised his eyes when he saw her settling his son on high chair.

"He got up early today." She understood his inquisitive stare.

She quickly went inside to prepare his cereal.

"Myra you also have your breakfast." Julia came up with two plates one for Neil and other for Myra.

"No Aunty I will have it later with you." She tried.

"No. You still need rest. You did not allow me to do anything for Neev but now you have to listen to me."

Breakfast was not silent event, Myra was telling some story to Neev where as Neil was busy with his phone and breakfast but his mind and eyes were diverting to his son's happy face time to time though her ignorance did not go missing from his eyes.

"Bye baby" Neil kissed.

"Dadda" Neev shrieked with happiness.

"I will come soon and then we will play." He caressed his hairs once again before leaving.

"Bye Myra. Take care. Call me if you need anything." he took his laptop bag and left.

Myra kept on looking at him retiring figure. This was the life she had dreamed over her teenage to adulthood. Her and Neil's small world and today she was living it but somewhere old scars were still haunting her from forgiving his cruelty.

Two more weeks passed to the incident, even though they both wanted to follow their earlier routine of avoiding each other very badly but this time one little innocent soul took the responsibility to jeopardize their plans.

It was none other than Neev. The foundation of their relation. He was true to the meaning of his name.

He started getting up early than his usual timings requiring Myra to come downstairs to make his cereal during Neil's breakfast timings. They three started sharing breakfast even though there was never any word exchanged between them other than monosyllables which was again mostly by Neil.

Myra even noticed changes in Nandini, she visited their home few times but unlike her earlier visits she did not warned her or insulted her. But maintain her civil with Myra. She did not had a direct word with her but from Julia she got to know Mrs. Nandini Singhania was inquiring about her health.

Woman inside Nandini was guilty over titling Myra without knowing her fully but at the same time mother inside her was not able to trust the girl whose sister broke her son's heart mercilessly.

Niren also visited their home few time with his father. He was genuine soul.

It was an evening, time for Neil to come back home, Neev used to insists his mother to take him for round in their home's garden which resulted in encounter between his parents on every evenings.

Since weather was also warm accompanied with bright sunlight Myra started taking him to garden for fresh air. Neev loved to play in the garden exploring new things. Myra used to place a mat along with some toys for him to play.

Her eyes were turning towards main gate while checking time on the watch.

'He must be on his way.'

'Am I waiting for his return?'

She struggled to find appropriate answer.

In these days, though her anger over him was suppressed but still she was giving her husband silent treatment.

Finally, his car came in her vision. He came out and straight made his way towards his wife and son.

"Dadda" Neev crawled with jet speed to his father.

With Neil's support he stood up asking his father to take him in his arms.

Neil had his laptop bag in one hand and other he had his suit jacket.

He was trying to stuff both of them in one hand to pull up Neev but he failed.

His impatient son did not like his father wasting time. He started punching on his knees.

"Ohh my little avenger. Have some mercy on your father."

"Neil, give it me." Myra pointed out at his laptop bag and suit.

It was after almost two weeks he heard his name in her voice. It felt surreal for him for a moment.

He passed small smile and passed his belongings to her.

Hoping to give time to father and son, Myra turned and started leaving but he feet got entangled with one of Neev's toy and she lost her balance.

She was about to fell but one strong arm held her from shoulder. She turned her eyes to see Neil holding her with his one hand and Neev was in his other hand.

Neev was giggling where as Neil and Myra's eyes were locked with each other. Unknowingly, Neil pulled her close and Myra reduces the distance still losing herself in his dark brown eyes.

It was picture perfect family moment.
