Chapter - 14
Morning alarm sound broke Niren's sleep. He groaned and woke up straightening his arms.
He rested his back on bed head rest and took his phone to check latest messages and emails.
One of the email captured his attention. It was from the security head. After reading email contents for 10 minutes. He took deep sigh.
"Neil you were so so wrong. I hope this will knock some senses in your dumb head." He shook his head.
But when he opened his WhatsApp for the first message from his brother.
'Niren, prepare my divorce papers. I want them tomorrow.' He stared at the message with wide open eyes.
"What the fuck?" He rolled his hand in his messy hairs. He immediately called his brother but looks like his brother was not in mood to pick up.
Niren threw blanket and went to washroom to get fresh up while continuously calling his brother. But there was no luck from other side.
He came downstairs to witness his mother waiting for him in dining hall for breakfast. He tried to escape but his mother has already spotted his presence around her.
"Niren, where are you going early morning?"
"Mom, I... I... I have one office meeting." He lied not meeting his tightly closed eyes with his mother.
"Ohh ok. But have breakfast and go."
"No Mom I will get late." He took step but stopped thinking. 'I should inform this to Dad. He will be able to handle this properly.'
"Mom where is Dad?" He turned to his mother.
"I don't know. In morning he got some call and he left without even letting me know. I got to know from maids." She was observing her son with narrowed eye.
'Did Dad know what happen in Neil's house? Shit. Neil you really screwed up now.' He pressed his forehead with irritation.
"Ok Mom, I am leaving" He turned but his mother had already observed his distress face.
"Niren, dare you lie to me. Where are you going?" Nandini was never a controlling mother but whatever happened with her first born made her possessive about her both son's.
'Shit'
"Niren, you are not leaving until you tell me where are you going? And I want truth only." She crossed her hand over her chest.
"I am going to Neil's house." Niren gave up knowing his mother's stubborn nature.
"Why? What happened? Is he ok? Did that girl...?" Her motherly heart filled with anxiety.
"No Mom. This is nothing to do with Myra." Niren turned in frustration. He just needed to escape from his mother's question bank.
"You cannot lie to me. There is something that girl had done to hurt my son." Her eyes were blazing with fire now.
"I am coming with you." She declared.
"Mom please no. I will handle."
"I AM COMING WITH YOU. That's final." It was order from Mrs. Nandini Singhania.
Here in Neil's house, he got up when morning sun rays brighten his room. He was spread over the couch. His head was throbbing with pain due to excess drinking last night.
Last night when he came back, one tiny part of his heart was filling guilty to throw any girl out of his house in middle of stormy night. He was never like this but Meera's betrayal and scene infront of him brought beast out of him.
He took deep breath kept on staring at ceiling of his room. Her furious outrageous hazelnut eyes replayed in his mind. Her eyes, her tears, her pleadings, her rage unsettled his mind and gave pang to this heart.
He closed his eyes to take her out of his mind.
'I disgust myself that I fall for you. I hate myself, that I loved person like you from my teen. You are not the Neil I knew from my teenage. My violinist. You are not my Violinist.'
He opened his eyes abruptly when her words grasped by his mind.
'What does she meant by teenage?'
He closed his eyes once again to remember but it was all blurry, in pieces for him.
"She was trying to say that she loved me from teenage. What the fuck?"
"Bloody lier" his mouth filled with bitter taste.
'You are not my Violinist.' Her voice again rang in his ears.
"Violinist?"
"But how come she know I used to play violin when I was in my high school?"
"After high school I hardly played it."
"Nobody knows that I used to go to musical academy for learning. Not even Mom, Dad or Niren."
"May be Meera?"
"No" Neil shook his head. He tightly closed his eyes to remember, "No. I never told this to Meera as well."
"How come she knows about it?"
"I am hallucinating. I was drunk last night and these things are my just imaginations."
"But why I do feel they were real?"
He got up with mind filled with thoughts to freshen up. He gave glance to his son who was sleeping peacefully in his crib. His train of thoughts were broke first with knock on the door. It was Julia.
"Neil, Myra is still not at home. I went to check her room."
"She is not going to come back." His words baffled Julia. Last night Julia waited for Myra but she herself did not realized when sleep took over her charge. In morning first thing she went to Myra's room but it was empty.
"But Neil..."
"Neil" He heard Niren's voice from downstairs.
He came downstairs to see his mother and brother waiting for him in living room.
"How are you my son?" Nandini caressed his messy hairs.
"Hmm" he just nodded his head not matching his eyes with her.
"Did you bring the papers?"
"No. First you need to see this. I got this today morning. Security chief found out that Mr. Peter was double crossing us with E-Care deal. He was to one who passed on the quote price to Sehgals. And this had nothing to do with Myra."
Niren thought his brother is taking drastic decision because they lost important deal to their rivals.
"How can you be so sure about it Niren?" Nandini got one more shock. She was not aware about their business affairs.
"Mom, I have asked security chief to keep track of everyone including Myra. She is clean."
"And you believe this?" His mother raised her eyebrows.
"Mom proofs are in front of you. I am not siding her but looking at these proofs Myra is innocent. She was in your home all the time or in hospital as per her phone locations." Niren turned to his brother, "Now you back from your demand of divorce papers. There is no need of if."
"Niren, I need divorce papers ready ASAP. If you cannot do it, there are many other lawyers in this city." Neil was determined.
"But why now? When everything is clear. Are you still doubting on her?" Niren could not understand.
"She is same like her sister. Sleeping with some other guy." Neil felt disgusted.
"What the fuck are you talking about?" Niren whisper yelled.
"Yes I saw her yesterday night."
"I knew this. She is a cheap. I am with you son. You don't need to worry about it. We need to throw that girl out of this house. I will not let her ruin your life." His mother supported and Niren become tongue tied.
They heard footsteps entering inside living room. Dev
"Dad"
"Dev where were you?" Nandini asked turning. "You left early morning without even informing me."
But her husband ignored her and stood in front of his elder son drilling holes in his body.
"Where is Myra?" Dev's thunderstorm voice echoed in living room.
"I don't know." Neil matched his nonchalant eyes with his father's charcoal ones.
"Neil, I am asking you last time. Where is Myra?"
Niren and Nandini were looking at duo in utter shock with wide open eyes.
"I don't..."
THUD
Dev slapped his son so hard that Neil could not manage his balance and stumbled back few steps.
"Dad", "Dev" Nandini and Niren screamed on top of their lungs. It was the most unexpected for each one of them.
Dev was always calm and composed man who loved his both sons from core of his heart. From childhood his was strict father but he never raised hand on any one his son till today.
"I am ashamed of you Neil. How could you do this with Myra?"
Neil's eyes filled with tears in a moment. His father, his best friend, his mentor was disheartened over his deeds. His father's eyes which used to shine with love, care and mostly proud feelings for him were now blazing with disgust and anguish.
"What... what did he...do?" Nandini was scared but she needed to know. Her heart had grappled with fear.
"In morning, I got a call from hospital that police had found Myra lying unconscious on deserted road." Dev did not move his eyes from his son's pale face who was not able to meet his eyes with his father now.
"She was betraying Neil and sleeping around with ...." Nandini seethed with venom and tried to defend her son.
"Nandini enough. Even after being a woman how can you think so low?" Dev was astonished over his wife's stand. He understood her possessiveness towards her son but she should not shield their mistakes. And today his son is done a sin.
"I saw her Dad. I saw her just out of this house with a man. They both were openly romancing." Finally Neil found his voice. Tears have started pooling in his eyes.
"With Dr. Andrew." Dev completed his sentence.
All eyes turned to Dev in bewilderment.
"I was the one who requested Dr. Andrew last night to drop Myra to home." Dev replied with challenging glare.
Dev's one statement gave major blow to Neil's mindset.
"What?"
"I was calling you Neil to come to hospital for Myra. She needed you yesterday the most. But you? As usual ignored my calls."
Neil remembered he saw multiple calls on his phone last night.
"I even asked Myra about you but she lied to me to cover up. Cover up for you. That girl could not see me drawn in embarrassment because of my son."
"I knew, she was coming to home alone. I couldn't see my daughter travelling back home on middle of stormy night when her soul was shattered. I asked Dr. Andrew to drop her."
"How could you do that to her Neil? Forget for a moment she is your forced wife. Forget she is mother for your child but how could you forget she is a girl? How could you leave her alone on stormy night?"
"Don't you know wolfs are roaming freely to hunt their prey these days. What would have happened if something bad had happened with her?"
'Yes Dad is right. Shit. I should have controlled at night.'
'I hope nothing bad had happened to her' His heart started thudded with guilt.
Neil turned silent all of a sudden. Recent revelations swiped away floor beneath his feet.
"But why?" This time Niren broke the silence of the room.
"Yesterday, Myra lost her grandmother. Her only family. She passed away suffering from cancer." Dev declared earning gasped from Nandini and Niren.
Where as Neil drowned in his thoughts.
"But Meera never had any grandmother." Neil mumbled to himself but it was audible to all.
"MEERA NEVER HAD BUT MYRA HAD GRANDMOTHER. Always. Stop comparing Meera and Myra." This time Dev shouted on top of his voice.
'Aren't they sisters? Meera never mentioned about her grandmother then how can?'
"Yes Meera and Myra are twins. But one is witch where as another is angel."
"Couldn't you observe any differences between two over last couple of days." He asked raising his eyebrows.
"Have you ever thought how did I convince Myra for this loveless marriage?" It was time for Dev to give reality check to his son. It was already too late.
Neil scrunched his forehead, also his mother and brother.
"I blackmailed her as I did to you. And that pious girl agreed. You know why? Just to give peaceful death to her grandmother. Think about it Neil, it was easy for Myra to wash off her hands from her grandmother's responsibility but that brave girl faced it. She sacrificed her whole life for just giving peaceful death to her grandmother."
Neil stumbled back from his position.
"What do you think I did not check her background? I did. I knew, even though being daughter of that bloody Ashok Sehgal, even though being twin sister of cunning and manipulative girl Meera, Myra was different."
"I hoped, she could bring you out of darkness. She could make you believe in relations and love again. She was the only one who could become perfect mother for Neev." Dev's voice turned emotional. Tears started welling up in his eyes.
"And I hoped she could bring back my lost son to me." Tears rolled over Dev's eyes.
"But I was wrong. Meera took away my son from me. She killed him leaving his body to rot." It was for the first time rest three family members were seeing helplessness in Dev's eyes.
Dev closed his eyes taking deep sigh. "But I will not let you destroy Myra. I made a mistake but now I will only correct it. You want divorce right?"
His father's statement gave pang to Neil's heart. He did not understand why?
"Let's get it done. Niren prepare papers."
Dev turned to leave.
"Where... Where is.... Where is Myra, Dad?" Neil's vocal cods finally started working.
"You don't need to know when you don't care." Dev stepped out of the home leaving three confused minds behind.
