Chapter 4
Will sat in his room, looking back and forth from his clock to his uniform.
11:15
He sighed, before changing into his uniform and getting ready for his walk to work.
11:30
Grabbing a cup of coffee, he walked downstairs and grabbed a cup of coffee, his father sitting in the kitchen. While he sipped the coffee, his father shifted in his chair. He looked up at Will and sighed.
"Could you do me a favor tonight?"
Will took a sip of his coffee, not even looking up. "Sure. What do you need now?"
His dad lowered his head, seeming uncomfortable. "That new animatronic I've been working on arrived at the Pizzeria today...I was wondering if you could possibly make sure nothing happens to it while they set it up?"
Will rolled his eyes. "I suppose. What's in it for me?"
Henry looked behind him and sighed. "Just trust me. This one is special...it's purpose is a unique one."
That's what he always says.
I know.
"Fine. But I'm not staying for much longer afterwards."
"Alright. That's fair."
Will looked at the clock and spit out his coffee.
11:45
"Shit, I gotta go. See ya when I get home."
Will ran out the door, ignoring his dad telling him to mind his language.
11:57
Will sat in his office chair, watching the cams. He had three minutes until his shift, and he wanted to find that new animatronic. He noticed a new camera location, and when he opened it there was a large crate sitting on the stage.
Suddenly, the phone rang, and Will just stared at it.
"Ah...hello, hello! Uh, see, I told you your first night wouldn't be a problem. You're a natural!"
Oh yes, a real natural.
Sarcasm alert!
"Uh, by now I'm sure you've noticed the older models sitting in the back room. Uh, those are from the previous location. We just use them for parts now. The idea at first was to repair them...uh, they even started retrofitting them with some of the newer technology, but they were just so ugly, you know? The smell...uh, so the company decided to go in a whole new direction and make them super kid-friendly. Uh, those older ones shouldn't be able to walk around, but if they do, the whole Freddy head trick should work on them too, so, whatever."
I kinda liked those old animatronics.
But I don't remember them smelling that bad, do you?
"Uh...heh...I love those old characters. Did you ever see Foxy the pirate? Oh wait, hold on...oh yeah, Foxy. Uh, hey listen, that one was always a bit twitchy, uh...I'm not sure the Freddy head trick will work on Foxy, uh. If for some reason he activates during the night and you see him standing at the far end of the hall, just flash your light at him from time to time. Those older models would always get disoriented with bright lights. It would cause a system restart, or something. Uh, come to think of it, you might want to try that on any room where something undesirable might be. It might hold them in place for a few seconds. That glitch might be in some of the newer models too."
Oh boy...of course it'll be Foxy.
What's wrong with Foxy?
Nothing. He's just creepy.
I think he's cool.
"One more thing - don't forget the music box. I'll be honest, I never liked that puppet thing. It was always...thinking, and it can go anywhere...I don't think a Freddy mask will fool it, so just don't forget the music box."
Yeah, I know it well...we had a nice "chat" last night.
...
Really? No comment?
The voice sighed.
The Puppet...let's just not talk about it right now.
"Anyway, I'm sure it won't be a problem. Uh, have a good night, and talk to you tomorrow."
"Alright then-"
"Oh, and before I forget, could you please set up that new animatronic in the Party Bin? Yeah, corporate thought it's room needed a fun name. Anyways, I'm sure you can handle it, so I'll see you tomorrow."
Will inhaled, pulled off his hat, and then screamed into it. "Why me...?"
If mom were here, she'd say you're special...though I'm not sure that's a good thing.
"You know very well I never got to know mom, so don't pull that shit with me."
The voice stopped talking, and Will stood up in his chair, tucking the Freddy head under his arm. "I guess we should go set it up."
Do we have a choice?
"Probably not."
Will wandered in the darkness, his flashlight lighting the path. He passed a couple of wandering animatronics, which he put the Freddy Head on for, and eventually arrived at the 'Party Bin'.
"God, what a stupid name."
Agreed.
Will stared at the crate, crowbar in hand. "Welp...time to get cracking."
That was a terrible joke, and you know it.
"Eh, oh well." He dug the crowbar into the crack on the crate, and wrenched it open. The five exposed sides of the crate fell to the ground, revealing a white and blue fox, similar to one of William's old Funtime models, which were pretty advanced for the time they were made.
Hey, that thing kinda looks like-
"I was just thinking that." He looked around it, trying to find some kind of instructions, but instead he heard a sound behind him. Rushing to throw on the Freddy Head, he realises Foxy is the one there and flashes his flashlight in its eyes.
Foxy grabbed at its eyes, clearly blinded, and Will just back to the office. He was vaguely aware of the Puppet rising out of its box, the music box playing rapidly. Foxy was running after him, the heavy footsteps rushing closer. Then a sound of metal-on-metal, and he turned around.
The Puppet had tackled Foxy, wrestling him on the ground. The Puppet was beating Foxy, over and over with its little tentacle-esque arms. The air filled with the sounds of metal on...whatever the Puppet was made of. Will was tempted to keep watching, before he remembered who the Puppet was fighting.
He ran back to the office, his job technically complete. Sitting back down in the chair, he watched the cams and noticed the Puppet dragging Foxy into Parts & Service. And then it disappeared. When he looked up, the Puppet was standing in front of him, staring.
"Uh...can I help you?"
The Puppet just stared.
"Uh...okay? Thanks for the help, I suppose."
"Since when do you speak like that...?"
Will looked around for who spoke. It almost sounded like-
Hey, that was my voice!
Will realised she was right. It sounded like Charlotte.
"I thought I taught you better than to not answer a question."
Will just looked back at the cameras, no longer paying attention. "Alright, voice, you can stop fucking with me now."
That's not me.
"Excuse me?"
"Come on. I've lived with you in my head for the past...six years, I want to say?"
Suddenly, the alarm for 6 AM went off. Will turned to the Puppet and gathered his things. "If you can provide proof you're not just the voice in my head, I might listen to what you have to say. Until then, good day to you." And then Will left, Charlotte's voice arguing with him about not being the puppet.
