Undenu - A Tale of Viridian
Rushing around the warm kitchen, I scoop up ingredients and pots before slamming them onto my workstation. I have twenty minutes to cook this before it goes out to my boss. He's doing a performance review, and of course he wants to check up on the seventeen year old newbie. Ugh. I have to make a vegetable soup with fresh bread rolls on a side plate. Nothing fancy, and I make it and send it out on time, hopefully perfect. I'm washing up my pots and utensils when my manager walks into the pristine kitchen, wiping the corner of his mouth with a bright white napkin. He nods at me in approval and I smirk. Hah. Of course I'm the best. I'm not saying I'm cocky-well, I am- but I'm too kind to be too mean to anyone. And my brute strength in the kitchen and in the boxing ring means I have to be the best, or I'm a bit rude. It's not interfering with my work, and I try my hardest to provide for myself. I don't want to depend on my rich parents for everything. I'm not about sucking that silver spoon.
Rushing out of work and into my small apartment, I change from my chef whites and into my training gear. I decide to go for a run before heading into the boxing club I train and fight at. I prefer running up the mountain trail of Mt Ebott, the mountain just outside the city, and about five miles away from my small apartment in the outskirts of the city. It's a pleasant run, and pushes me to my limits, which I love inside the kitchen and the boxing ring. Fire, pain, and breaking limits. That's what I'm all about! My run usually takes me past the four crosses along the path, each carrying a colourful ribbon, each of cyan, amber, cobalt, and orchid. I love stopping by these memorials to the four fallen humans, and thinking of new ways to cook and prepare dishes, or new fighting techniques for the ring. Every idea is named after each of these poor souls who fell. Like my Sara-Sauce Pasta, or my Papatt Spaghetti Meatballs Combo, or my Mufell-Flip Whack Attack. After around fifty minutes, I reach the spot with the crosses and I flop onto the ground, exhausted. I pull my water bottle from my backpack and my stained apron falls out. I hastily gulp the precious liquid before chasing after my apron. My boss would kill me if I lost it. As I rush after the fluttering cloth, my bright red backpack slips from my shoulder and the burnt pan I had to take home to scrub clangs to the floor. I scoop it up in my hands and leap after the apron, and my feet close in on nothingness.
And this is because I'm falling...
And falling...
And falling...
Until I land in a deep pool of crystal clear water, with small blue and red fish swimming around in fear. I grin as I swim strongly to the surface, watching the pretty fish darting around. This pool was the result of a sudden flood, that much I could tell. Heh, GCSE Geography did help me outside of school. I look around in awe at the large cavern, and see a cave opening up ahead, partially submerged by all this water. How cool?! It's like Mt Ebott has been hiding a whole waterpark under it's massive, rocky exterior. After coming to some purple steps, I get out of the water and do some laps of the small platform that's a couple of metres above the water. I speed through the rest of this purple cavern, encountering a lot of water, or water damage. After stopping for breath in the soggy house, I literally sprint through the town I briefly notice is named 'Snowdin'. I hate the cold.
I find a lagoon/waterfall/lake area after the snowy forests of Snowdin, and I couldn't be happier. I deposit my burnt pan and stained apron on the blue ground and dive into the cool water with a smirk. I push my bright red hair out of face as I surface, and I take a deep breath. My trademark smirk makes way for a smile, and I notice a small duckling swimming near me. I tread water and allow the small, fluffy, yellow duckling to paddle closer. What? I'm a kindhearted soul. After splashing around with the duckie for a while, I get out of the water and head onwards.
I reach a bright orange area, with scorching temperatures and enough red, orange, and yellow to make you sick. There are half built pipes and air vents all around this place, as well as flickering laser things that leave me with a headache. I notice there are few 'monsters' per se, and I take note of a tall skeletal figure with palms with a hollowed out centre. The figure is always moving things around, and flickering around these hot lands like a lightbulb. It pops in and out of existence quick as a finger snap. My burnt pan and stained apron have blown away with a particularly strong air vent, and I leap precariously from each stone pillar that leads to another platform. I mistime a jump and my foot chips some rock from the edge of the platform. I go down onto one knee, leaving a scrape and drawing blood, and use my hands to catch my falling body. I ache worse than after a six hour session at the gym. Which is weird, scrapes and knocks never hurt me. They stopped giving me bruises several years ago. I wonder what's up with me.
I explore this area a little bit, but look around for the exit. I'm sweating. I hate heat and this place is hotter than the effing Saharan Desert. My vision is hazy, knees weak, palms sweaty, and I can't see where I'm going. My knees buckle and I trip over the edge of a platform. I'm falling again, but it's okay.
Until a plane swoops low and catches me. I feel myself being pulled from my body and I see a floating green heart, pulsing with happiness at the kindness of this monster. Then it breaks. The plane catches the pieces in a jar and flies away, and I see the green glow float out the jar and towards the skeletal figure I saw earlier. He catches the glow in one of the hollows in his palm, and puts it into a grey heart. I feel a pull towards him, my SOUL reaching out for me. I hold onto consciousness, pushing away the darkness at the edge of my vision, but it engulfs me anyway.
Uh, who am I? Water... Kindness... Power... Fighting...
Oh, YEAH! I'm Undyne, friend of Papyrus, training member of the ROYAL GUARD, and awesome Chef!
