Chapter Sixteen
"You! How dare you take our prisoner?" A monstrous looking troll who was in the lead of the others had shouted, glaring at Billy angrily.
Billy shivered at the sight of the trolls. They were disgusting, with mangy fur and yellow teeth. Billy tried not to look at how sharp their claws were as he shouted back, "Your mischievous behavior needs to stop! You've caused a lot of trouble within the Queen's kingdom!"
"What trouble? I don't know of any trouble," A troll called out sarcastically, and the others cackled.
Billy rolled his eyes from behind his helmet. "You've kidnapped the Queen before, haven't you?"
"Oh, yes. I remember that well. Don't you remember it too, boys?" The lead troll guffawed and the others joined him.
"Those were good times. Good times...that turned sour in the end," Another troll remarked, glaring with piercing eyes.
"Yes...if not for that big-shot knight that attacked us...we would have been successful. And speaking of which..." The lead troll looked directly at Billy, approaching him slowly, his nostrils twitching furiously as if a single whiff of Billy would give the troll the answer he was looking for. Billy didn't move a single muscle.
The troll continued to sniff him, an angry glare developing as he progressed. Finally, he jumped back and snarled, "I knew it! I knew that this knight looked familiar! Yes, boys, this indeed is the same knight that attacked us that fateful day!"
The trolls all gasped with surprise, and then started to growl and snarl at Billy, extending their claws and baring their yellow teeth.
Billy started to get nervous, but he knew that he had to withstand it. These trolls were known for being up to no-good, and it was up to him to put an end to it. In fact, it wouldn't have surprised him at all if these trolls were responsible for the disappearance of Princess Claria.
Princess Claria! He thought to himself with surprise. He had almost forgotten with all the stress of saving Ella from the trolls. Suddenly, he knew that he had to stay in this cave and face these trolls. He had to do it for the good of the Queen's kingdom.
"Back away!" Billy shouted, pointing his sword at the trolls. They had slightly inched away after noticing how sharp the sword was. "Yes, I am Sir Edward The Third! Last time I saw you, I was on a quest to save the Queen! Now I am on a quest to save her daughter, and I have a feeling that you all have something to do with it!"
The trolls all stopped at once, exchanging bemused glances with each other. Billy chose not to buy them for a minute. The trolls surely were trying to trick him. He wouldn't put it past them if they were.
"We know nothing of the disappearance of her daughter. She lies elsewhere. But, now that you have given us the good news, I suppose that we must all embark on a massive hunt for the Queen's little girl!" The lead troll cackled, looking at his cronies as they joined him.
"No! You will not do that! Stop right there!" Billy shouted angrily, once again pointing his sword at the trolls who dared to come closer.
"Why do you back away at the prospect of him harming you with that silly sword? Shame on all of you!" the lead troll roared at his followers who had backed away, and they cowered with fear at the sight of him being so angry.
"I will not have cowards! This ends now! I will show you all why this human should be afraid of me!" And with that, the lead troll roared with fury and lunged at Billy.
Billy jumped back in shock, as the angry troll had missed him by mere inches. He snarled in frustration and extended his claws, swiping at Billy. Billy once again missed his attack by ducking under, and then aimed his sword at the troll's heart.
However, the troll had foresaw what Billy was going to do. He swiped the sword out of Billy's hand, and it slid away from him and landed with a loud CLASH on the cave floor.
The troll snickered at Billy whilst exposing his yellow teeth. Billy shivered, looking over at the sword lying too far from his reach and then at his hands free of weaponry.
But before the troll could make it to Billy's sword, a sudden flash had come for it instead, so fast that neither Billy nor the trolls could identify who it was at first. But when they looked around the cave, they saw that a goblin was holding the sword. A goblin that Billy recognized. Grunt.
"Back away from him!" Grunt growled at the trolls.
"A goblin with a sword!" A troll shrieked with terror. Then, all the trolls darted away together, deep into the cave to hide in complete darkness. That is, except their leader, who stood adamantly in front of Grunt and Billy, glaring at them deeply.
"I will not back down!" he snarled angrily. "And if you don't put that sword down right now, there will be some bad news for your friend right there."
Billy froze, knowing that he was talking about him. Grunt pushed Billy away from the angry troll almost instantly.
"Run, Billy!" He ordered. "Run! Save yourself!"
Billy almost didn't want to listen, reluctant to leave Grunt alone with the troll. But, he realized that Grunt must know what he was doing. After all, every troll except for the leader had been afraid of him. Billy did as he was told and ran for the entrance of the cave, following its light that shone through it, hoping with all of his might that his friend Grunt would be okay.
