Chapter Seven
Billy was in utter disbelief. It was taking quite a while for the shock to fade. His mind just couldn't comprehend how he could have possibly went from his normal, familiar world, to this strange fantastical dreamland.
"Wait...So...I'm Sir Edward...a knight?" Billy asked the girl slowly, as for confirmation.
"Why, yes! Do you not know of your great accomplishments? The time when you battled the trolls of the North and saved the Queen? It is that great event that made you who you are. Sir Edward The Third, the greatest knight of the village!"
Billy did not recall anything that this strange girl had mentioned. He decided he would play along for now, as trying to reason with a book character might prove itself to be a difficult task.
"Oh...I'm sorry, but I guess I forgot about all that for a minute...my memory these days...it's just..." Billy's voice faltered away, playing along as Sir Edward not being an easy task, especially knowing that he had not read the book.
"Well...if your memory's supposedly so bad, do you not remember why you have been sent here?"
"Uh...to save the village?"
"Well, yes...I suppose you could say that." The girl replied, nodding slightly. Billy was proud that he at least got something right for once, as Sir Edward The Third.
"If you don't mind me asking, Sir Edward, do you know why your memory is a bit...erm...faded?" The girl inquired, looking as if she were trying to search for a polite way to word her sentence.
"Oh...I um..." Billy stuttered, and then an idea had come to him. He started rubbing his head and gave a look of discomfort.
"I have this bruise on my head...I think I must have bumped my head or something on my way here."
"Oh, is that it? Well, don't worry. I have been sent here by the Queen herself to make sure that you are present and ready for your task. If you don't mind, I could accompany you during this quest." The girl said with a hopeful smile.
"Oh...um..." Billy thought about this option for a minute. He didn't know this strange girl and what she could possibly be up to, yes, but he didn't know her any moe than he knew this strange storyworld he was trapped in. It would do him good to have a partner who at least knew her way around. So, Billy decided that it would be the best course of action to allow this strange girl to accompany him, but only until he would find his way out of here.
"Okay," Billy nodded. "You can come with me. I think it'll be nice to have a partner on my quest."
The girl's eyes seemed to light up with excitement when Billy had accepted her offer. "Oh, thank you, Sir Edward! I won't let you down. My name is Ella. Ella, of the River Village," she curtsied.
Billy was relieved that the girl had at least introduced herself and that she had a name after all. He was worried that he would be expected to know that too. For once, Billy wished that he had let his mother read the book to him. He would have understood this world much better if he had.
"Well, Ella, what's the first thing we need to do in this quest?" Billy questioned curiously.
"Oh, well first of all, we must let the Royal Village know that you have arrived. They have a wonderful welcome celebration planned for you, and the Queen herself is there to greet you. It is an honor that most only dream of!" Ella explained excitedly.
Billy was impressed at first, but then remembered that he was only in a book and in the character of a brave knight. He knew for a fact that the real Billy that he knew was not capable of such great things. He nodded simply.
"Could you lead me to the Royal Village?" Billy requested.
"Why yes, it would be an honor, Sir Edward! Just follow me," Ella gestured for Billy to follow, and he did as they walked through the seemingly endless grassy plains.
Billy sighed heavily. How long was he going to be stuck in this storyworld? Sure, the idea of being in a fantasy world as a brave and respected knight did sound fun at first, but it wasn't as fun not knowing when it was going to end. Billy could only assume that the book did have an ending, and he would have to reach that ending in order to leave its world, which was most likely when he would finish his quest. Billy decided that it would be best to continue to play along as Sir Edward and complete his quest as soon as possible so that he could leave this silly fantasy world. When that would be, he didn't know.
He could only hope that it would come quickly, or else he may be trapped in this storyworld forever.
