Manami's POV
I had been looking at the blank diary now for a while now and I knew there was more than meets the eye with it, I just couldn't figure it out. I had searched through the whole book but there was nothing, yet I kept coming back to it. My thoughts were interrupted when I heard Deidara taking yet another coughing fit. It was really starting to annoy me so I decided I would go and get him some water or something before I ended up killing him out of irritation. I walked out of the underground cave, ignoring the looks I got from Sasori and Deidara and up towards the lake. I bent down with a flask collecting some of the water and brought it back down for Deidara.
"Would you drink something already?" I asked, sounding very irritated and handing him the flask. He took it off me between fits of coughing and smiled sheepishly before taking a swig of water.
"Sorry, un" he apologized and I rolled my eyes before sitting back down to look over the scrolls, giving the diary a break for now. "What's this?" he questioned me, pointing to the diary and I shrugged trying to concentrate on reading the scroll I had now.
"I'm starting to think it's nothing, I found it hidden in one of the shelves but it seems it's just blank" I sighed and he looked at it curiously. I looked away and began writing down possible places that might contain the puppet parts.
"Oh shit, un" I heard Deidara say and I turned around to see he had spilled water all over the diary.
"What have you done?" I growled and he laughed nervously. I got up to snatch the book off him until I noticed a page had begun to peel back at the front of the blank notebook. I peeled back the wet paper and noticed numbers written on the front of it. "Deidara you're a genius!" I exclaimed and he smirked regaining his huge ego until Sasori joined us.
"All he did was be an idiot and spill water over it, he didn't even mean to do it!" Sasori exclaimed and Deidara's smirk turned into a dark scowl directed at Sasori. I chuckled but when I looked at the numbers on the book I sighed deeply.
"I have no idea what these mean!" I informed them feeling like we were back to square one. I turned around when I felt Sasori put his hand on my shoulder.
"Relax, we can figure this out" he tried to calm me down but his words just made me more annoyed.
"Relax? We can't relax we are running out of time!" I yelled out in frustration and stormed off, out of the cave. I walked around the forest racking my brain for some answers. "Come on Manami think!" I scolded myself but it was no use, I wasn't very close to my family as I was very young when they were killed and I was taken away from them. I didn't know hardly anything about my parents and frankly the way things are going, I don't particularly want to know more about my father but it would nice to know more about my mother.
"This is why it's easier to not feel anything" I heard Sasori say as he walked up behind me. "You women are always so over emotional, I thought you to be different from the rest but I guess that was too much to ask for. You're being quite the annoyance" I could practically hear the smirk he was giving me and I whipped around aiming a punch at him.
"I am not annoying, if anything you are" I protested and his smirk grew.
"Really? I'm not the one taking a tantrum" he chuckled and I glared playfully at him.
"Oh shut up!" I huffed. "I am sorry though, I don't know what has gotten over me. I just can't control myself lately" I admitted.
"Maybe you're just tired?" he offered and I looked at him like he was crazy.
"Puppets don't sleep remember Sasori? I don't need to sleep to function" I replied.
"You may not need sleep to function but maybe you need sleep to function properly" he said emphasizing properly. "Besides, you don't know much about the jutsu Uragiri used on you. It could be why you can sleep, I know I can't" he added and I looked at him shocked.
"Seriously, you can't sleep?!" I asked amazed and he shook his head.
"No, I can't. I never feel tired so I never fall asleep" he told me.
"I do get tired but I can stay up for months and not need sleep. I don't understand why I need sleep anyway but I have no problem falling asleep. I don't get it, I'm supposed to be a puppet..." I trailed off and Sasori rolled his eyes at me.
"Maybe you should get some sleep before you eat the head off Deidara" he joked and I laughed nervously. I guess he noticed how annoyed Deidara was getting me with his ridiculous coughing fits.
"Alright, alright. Let's head back to the cave then" I sighed in defeat.
Once we made it back into the library of the cave, Deidara practically jumped at me which caused me to catch him when he fell to the ground in pain. I glared at him but set him down gently wondering what the hell had gotten him so worked up.
"I thought I told you to take it easy?" I scolded and he smirked up at me.
"I knew you cared, un" he teased and I glared harder at him. "Alright, alright. Calm down! I just wanted to tell you that while you and Danna were gone I managed to figure out what these numbers may mean, yeah" he spoke confidently and I couldn't help but not believe him; after all he wasn't the brightest sometimes.
"Well then if you've figured it then out what do they mean?" I quizzed him curiously and to my surprise he began to explain.
"Well I noticed that the library is split into sections, then rows and then shelves. I looked at the numbers and even though it was a long shot I followed the numbers on the basis that the numbers relate to sections, rows, shelves, scroll number, paragraph number and then word number and wrote them down, un" he told us and I was at a loss for words.
"So then what happened?" Sasori asked him and he grinned at me.
"Then I realized it made a riddle" he said. I was rather amazed at how smart Deidara had been and couldn't believe he figured it out all on his own.
"You did all this in the condition you're in and all while we were away?" I asked suspiciously and he chuckled.
"You were gone a long time and I got bored, un" he shrugged handing me the piece of paper where he had written down the riddle. He had written down five simple words, 'Blood is thicker than water'. What the hell is this supposed to mean? Wait I have seen those words before somewhere but where? I know it was written on the stone slab that I used to get in here. You were supposed to use blood but I obviously don't have any so I used chakra. I wonder if you can do the same thing to the diary?
"Any ideas, hm?" Deidara wondered and I looked up at him.
"Yeah, just one" I said before transferring chakra into the book. In a matter of seconds words began to appear on the page. I turned to the front and on the first page it read, 'Isao Hisakawa'. This wasn't my mother's diary, it was my grandfathers.
