Chapter 21

Manami's POV

I watched as the scene before me vanished and the next thing I knew I was beside a house that was in flames. I watched as my younger self cowered in a corner while a man with long dark brown hair pulled into a ponytail walked closer to her. My eyes widened when I remembered where I had seen the man before and I shivered as I remembered the awful memory of being stuck in his dark, dank cell.

"Hey there sweetheart, there is no need to be so scared I won't hurt you" he told me and little me looked up at the man with tears in her eyes. I walked closer and noticed he wasn't wearing his black mask that he wore before; I was able to see his face now. His eyes were a bright blue that shone in the light of the flames that were surrounding my house and looked very familiar to me.

He kneeled down to my cowering younger self and smiled holding his hand out to me. I watched as I reached up to take his hand and I tried to scream out to her to stop but it was no use, it was like I was trapped and couldn't move. I sighed in relief when I noticed my mother jump in between them and lift me up in her arms.

"That's enough Hakujo! Have you really fallen so far that you would attack your own clan, your own family and friends?" She asked him with pity in her eyes and he scoffed at her.

"You people are no family or friends of mine, you are all fools!" He yelled angry and my mother pulled me closer to her chest as I cried in fear of the man in front of me.

"Didn't you learn anything from the past? Our ancestors tried to use the puppet master for power and no good came from it!" My mother exclaimed and he just chuckled.

"Always so honourable Aiko. They failed because they weren't powerful enough to control it but I am and I will have it under my control so make it easier on yourself and come with me Aiko" he said and my mother shook her head sadly at Hakujo before a blinding flash of light was seen and the scene changed to me and mother back in the cave.

"Shhh Manami everything will be fine. Calm down sweetheart I won't let him hurt you" she hushed me and I obeyed her and my wails turned into quiet sobs and sniffles. "Ok Manami I am going to take something from you but when you are old enough you will come back here and retrieve them so please don't hate me" she told me gently.

"Why would I hate you mother? I love you" I told her and she laughed slightly at me with tears in her eyes. She put her hand gently to my head and smiled at me.

"I love you Manami" she said to me softly with tears streaming down her cheeks and that was the last thing I saw before everything went black.

"Manami are you alright?" I heard Uragiri ask me when I started to regain consciousness and I blushed slightly when I realised he was holding me and his face was very close to mine.

"I'm fine, I just... I think I remembered my past" I told him knowing I couldn't lie to him without him knowing but hoping I could lead him out of here before he discovered the library underneath where we were standing. "I know the way out so follow me" I smiled and he nodded and began following me.

"Aren't you curious to know what is down here?" He asked me and I looked back at him feeling a bad feeling.

"No I already remembered everything about this cave so I think it would be best if we left" I told him causing him to smile and nod.

"Of course. Sorry Manami" he apologised and I smiled back at him before turning to walk to the exit. I stopped in my tracks when I heard Sasori calling out for help in the cave. I had a strange feeling and instantly noticed my chakra was off. I broke the genjutsu quickly and jumped out of the way when I felt Uragiri try to attack me and brought out my scrolls for my puppets.

""That same trick won't work on me twice. Are you going to tell me what is going on Uragiri?" I asked him after summoning my puppets and he smirked at me.

"I need that scroll Manami and you are the only one who can find it" he told me and ran towards me with a kunai. I dodged and jumped backwards to create some space between us.

"I'm very sorry to hear that Uragiri." I told him. I felt a sharp pain in my chest and felt very disappointed that he had used me this whole time. I can't believe I didn't trust Sasori when he told me Uragiri was up to no good but I just wanted to give him a chance. I didn't want to believe that he was capable of doing something like this to me.

Deidara's POV

"Where the hell could she be?" I muttered to myself while walking through the endless terrain. I came upon a cave and sighed slightly. This is the only place left so I guess I should check it out. You so owe me for this Manami.

I began to walk up to the cave and noticed how beautiful the location was. I stopped to take in the beauty of it all and smirked when I heard someone coming up behind me. I quickly threw a clay bomb in the persons direction and jumped back yelling Katsu causing a massive explosion that made a huge dent in the ground.

"Nice try boy but I am far more experienced than you" I heard someone say from behind me and I jumped out of the way just dodging a hit from one of his puppets.

"Ugh not another one, un" I groaned when I noticed he was like Manami and Danna but smirked when I realised that I could prove to Sasori my art is better if I blow these disgusting puppets to bits.

"I will give you one chance to run while you still can boy but this will be the only time I offer such a generous deal." He informed me and I glared at him.

"Another ignorant person who underestimates my art, un! I guess I will just have to show you true beauty" I growled at him and he scoffed at me.

"You call that monstrosity art? Look at the destruction it has caused in such a beautiful place. You come here to my ancestors home, cause such a ruckus and you dare call it art? You need taught some manners boy" he scolded me and I smirked.

I threw out some clay spiders, blowing them up in his stupid puppets face. I waited for the smoke to die down and gasped when I noticed it hadn't even made a dent. He was definitely more powerful than I first thought.

Manami's POV

I used one of my puppets as a distraction while I had one coming up behind Uragiri but he noticed and broke it into pieces. The puppet released poisoned gas and he jumped out of the way before it could take effect on him. He blew out fire from his mouth and I jumped out the way just in the nick of time.

I froze when I felt my feet sinking into the ground slightly and I realised he had used an earth technique as well. I smirked and sent out a stream of lightening his way which allowed me to get out of the ground that was continuously sinking. He sent out another fire stream and I didn't have time to dodge it so I used my puppet to block it.

"Looks like I have destroyed all your puppets Manami" he chuckled and I backed up into a wall. He started to come closer to me with a kunai but soon fell to the ground when one of my puppet parts poisoned him by stabbing him through the leg.

"I made my puppets limbs detachable Uragiri for just an occasion like this" I smirked but felt my heart ache inside at his betrayal. How could he do this to me? I walked up slowly to him but froze in my spot when I heard an eerily familiar voice.

"Hello Manami, long time no see" he chuckled and I shivered as I turned around and came face to face with Hakujo. My eyes widened even more when I noticed a barely breathing Deidara hanging over his shoulders.

"What did you do to him?" I tried to yell but it came out as more of a whimper.

"I taught the boy some manners. He destroyed the beauty of this place with what he calls his art, it was an atrocious display indeed" he cringed and I felt my anger rise at how disrespectful he was being towards Deidara.

"You're a monster" I spat at him and he faked a look of hurt.

"Now, now don't speak of your own father that way" he chuckled and I felt my legs go weak and my breathing hitched in my chest.

"F-father?" I stuttered and he nodded before kneeling down and lifting Uragiri up, hanging him over his other shoulder. "Now my dear child, are you going to show me where the scrolls are?" He asked and I scoffed at him.

"I'd rather die than help you!" I growled and he smirked evilly at me.

"You might rather die but what about this poor boy?" He questioned and I grit my teeth glancing over at the bloody and bruised idiot lying on his shoulder. Damn it!

"Follow me..."
