Manami's POV

"Keep that kid under control brat!" Sasori growled at the blonde teen who was now stuck with babysitting duty. I turned my attention back to Sasori and the map trying to hide the oncoming chuckle that was coming at the face Deidara had made behind Sasori's back.

"So?" I snapped out of my daze and heard Sasori sigh at me. "You weren't listening again, were you?" he asked me sounding slightly annoyed and I gave him an apologetic look.

"Sorry I was daydreaming again." I said looking down slightly.

"I said do you think it would be safer to take her through the underground cave to get to the other side of the river or should we take the bridge?" he questioned me and I looked at the makeshift map he had made in the dirt with a stick.

"And there were no other ways around the river?" I asked as neither ways sounded very good.

"No. When I searched the grounds around here there was nothing else just those two paths." he replied to me and I nodded thoughtfully.

"Let's see if we take the bridge we could be easily spotted and the girl would be in danger. However if we take the cave then we are always in danger of it collapsing around us. Neither sound like very safe options. Why not ask Deidara?" I questioned and he gave me an 'are you serious look' and I laughed.

"Yeah, you're right that's a very bad idea. Um... I think the safer option is to take the bridge." I told him as I had a bad feeling about the cave. He nodded and informed the two 'brats' as he calls them to come along. Deidara nodded and lifted Junko up so she was being carried on his back.

We finally reached the bridge only to find it was now a tattered rag of rope that had obviously been cut. I looked over to Sasori who nodded to tell me I was correct that the enemies were nearby.

"Guess we take the cave then?" I asked him and he sighed heavily.

"We have no choice. Deidara be on guard and keep the kid safe, got it?" he queried Deidara and for once Deidara nodded and looked very serious. I found myself incredibly impressed that he was finally taking something seriously, he had a whole different demeanor compared to how he normally was  and I couldnt help but wonder if he was like this every time he had to fight an unexpected enemy. Suppose there had to be some reason the boy had made it this far in his S ranked criminal career.

We entered the cave and took our time slowly entering to make sure it wasn't a trap. We all breathed a sigh of relief when we had almost reached the end of the cave and had sensed no other chakra nearby. Our celebration was cut short however as we heard a loud explosion and the cave started to fall down around us.

I coughed slightly as the dust started to settle and I was finally able to see. I was on my own with several rocks surrounding me.

"Deidara? Sasori? Are you guys alright?" I shouted desperately.

"The kid and I are fine, un" I heard Deidara cough from the other side of the rocks. I started to worry when I got no reply from Sasori.

"Deidara can you guys get out your way?" I asked hoping I could just leave them to find Sasori.

"Yeah but what about Danna and you?" Deidara questioned slightly concerned.

"We'll be fine. We're puppets after all we don't need food or water so we have all the time in the world to find an exit. You take the kid to the village but be careful, the people who did this can't have gone far. Sasori and I will meet you in the village when we find a way out." I ordered him and he hesitantly agreed.

"Alright, if you're sure. I guess I'll see you and Danna soon then, un. Be careful Manami, the cave doesn't look so sturdy at the moment, it could collapse any moment." he told me before I heard him running off in the other direction shushing the very upset and scared little girl in his arms.

"Sasori? Sasori, if you can hear me make a noise." I yelled hoping I would get a reply form him but still there was nothing. "Dammit Sasori! You better not be dead!" I harshly whispered to myself as I tried to find my way around by using my sense of touch only. I kept walking calling out Sasori's name until I came across some firewood.

"Perfect!" I exclaimed as I picked them up and rubbed them together to start a fire so I could make a torch and see where I was going. I ripped apart of my already tattered robe and wrapped it around another stick, putting it in the fire.

After a while of walking around I heard coughing and I swirled around to head in the direction of the sound.

"Sasori?" I shouted and heard another cough in reply.

"I'm over here, Manami" I heard him say and I ran over to his direction.

"Are you alright?" I asked when I saw his Hiriko puppet lying in pieces all over the place.

"Fine, you?" he asked getting up out of the rubble and dusting himself off.

"I'm alright. Any idea on how we are going to get out of here?" I quizzed and he looked around now that he could finally see and sighed.

"You two aren't getting out of here alive." I heard a familiar voice snarl and I jumped frantically trying to find the source of the voice.

"Behind you." she hissed and I whizzed around to see my ex-partner, Akumu. "So this is what he looks like out of that ugly puppet of his, you were right he is very cute!" she chuckled and I knew I had turned several different shades of red.

"What do you want, Akumu?" I growled slightly in annoyance and she glared at me.

"Don't you remember my promise? You killed my brother so now I will kill someone you care about!" she smirked and gave me an extremely cold look. I widened my eyes, looking over to Sasori to make sure he was alright and gasped when I saw he had stepped in a pressurized landmine and was standing incredibly still.

"You'll die too!" I tried to reason with her and she laughed maniacally.

"I would if I weren't a clone." she informed me and began to run at Sasori who looked at her wide eyed. I tried to run over to stop her but I was too late and all I heard was a colossal 'bang'.

I felt my ears ringing and felt an aching feeling on the back of my head. I groaned getting up slowly and hissing in pain when I got up too quickly. When I came back to my senses I noticed one of my arms where missing, my head had cracked and my leg was trapped under a huge stone.

"Thank God I'm a puppet" I mumbled ignoring the excruciating pain that was emitting from my missing limb and crushed leg. "Damn jutsu!" I groaned while disconnecting the bottom half of my leg.

When I somehow managed to get up I hopped around to see if I could see any sign of Sasori. I nearly cried when I saw him trapped under a pile of rocks, broken into several pieces and his wood burning.

"Oh my God Sasori!" I whispered out and he opened his eyes slowly. I let out the breath I was unintentionally holding when I noticed his core of living flesh was just cracked slightly but not permanently damaged. I bent down to try and reach him but ended up falling.

"You don't look so good." he chuckled and I glared playfully at him.

"Well at least I'm not the one trapped under rocks." I stated rolling my eyes slightly. He smiled at me and I smiled back. "I just need to take this thing out of your chest and then put you into a ..new puppet body, right?" I questioned.

"Yeah but I don't have any spares with me and the scrolls I kept my other puppets in are destroyed." he informed me and I sighed at his idiocy.

"I'm a puppet master too. I can just create you one baka!" I told him and then smirked slightly. "I could make you look whatever way I wanted. Let's see how about I make you a blonde or better yet let's make you look like Deidara." I teased him and he looked slightly panicked. I burst out laughing.

"Relax, I promise I will make you look like you." I reassured him. "You ready?" I asked getting ready to take out his core and he nodded. I felt slightly saddened as I watched the eyes on his puppet go dull and found myself wanting to cry but I shook the thought reminding myself he was fine he just needed a new body.

I hopped outside at an agonizingly slow pace, immediately regretting to tell Deidara to go on ahead.

"Well, well, well. I guess I didn't realize how hard it was to kill you. I'm guessing Sasori didn't make it out." I turned to glare at Akumu who was getting too much enjoyment from my misery. I held Sasori's core of living flesh closer to me in a protective manner without realizing it. Unfortunately Akumu noticed and her smirk turned into a frown very quickly.

"That's him isn't it? Damn puppet is harder to kill than Hidan!" she snarled before jumping down and trying to get it out of my hands. I jumped back but lost my balance and fell.

"You not getting him!" I yelled at her desperate now to keep him safe no matter what.

"Oh yeah? I would like to disagree. Hand him over!" she ordered me and I glared at her.

"I'm not giving him to you! You can have him over my dead body!" I seethed and she chuckled.

"That can be arranged." She grinned. I grit my teeth as she came closer with a lit torch to burn my body and My heart started racing. I gasped slightly when she stopped in her tracks and spat out blood before falling to the ground. I saw the kunai sticking into one of her vital points and felt no need to go and help her.

"You can look now Junko, un" I heard Deidara say and I beamed up at him never so glad to see him.

"I thought I told you to keep going?" I scolded him and he smirked at me.

"Sorry, I just thought you could use some help." he laughed slightly and I smiled. "Where's Sasori no Danna, un?" Deidara questioned me and I looked down to the cylinder tube that was the only thing left of him. Deidara just looked at me confused and I rolled my eyes.

"He just needs a new body. This is him." I told Deidara making sure he didn't figure out that was Sasori's only weakness.

"It's kinda gross, yeah." he said scrunching up his nose at the purple tentacle like things that came out of the cylinder tube. I chuckled slightly and struggled to my feet. Deidara made one of his birds and then lifted Junko on before lifting me up as well.

"We should get to village just in time, providing there aren't any more distractions." Deidara informed me and I nodded sitting back while he made his bird take off. Deidara spent the rest of the trip cheering Junko up and I sat trying to remember Sasori's features so I could make his temporary new body when we landed.
