Sasori's POV

"Sasori this is Manami" my Granny said gesturing to a little girl with long black silky hair and bright blue eyes. Her frame was small and she was actually quite beautiful but although her facial structure was flawless it held no emotion in it at all. "Her parents were friends of mine but they sadly aren't able to look after her anymore so she will be staying with us" she stated more than asked me. I smiled at her and outstretched my hand.

"It's nice to meet you" I smiled. She just outstretched her hand with the same stony expression and replied in a monotone voice, "Thanks, same to you". I looked to Granny Chiyo and saw her starting to walk upstairs and gesturing us to follow her. I helped Manami with her bags and headed upstairs as well with her following behind me.

"This will be your new room Manami" Granny declared giving her a gentle smile. She thanked us and Granny told me to leave her alone to get settled, so we left her in peace. I walked down to the end of the hall and entered my room. I sighed looking down at a photo of my parents that sat on the dresser beside my bed. 'Come home soon mum and dad' I silently prayed for their return. I missed them but Granny Chiyo had told me that they should be back home very soon and the idea that they would be home very soon made me happy and excited, so I will wait a little longer for them. I then felt instantly sorry for Manami and couldn't help wondering what happened to her parents, did they just leave her or did they die? Whatever happened she seems upset about it so I guess I will take her out later if Granny Chiyo allows it and try to cheer her up.

Manami's POV

Everyone must think me to be heartless. The two Jonin that came to collect me were expecting me to be devastated but the truth is, I really couldn't care less. I wish I could feel something, no actually I don't because it's easier to ignore feelings; they are too troublesome to deal with. Mrs Chiyo seemed very surprised to see how different I behave now from when I was younger but she had to see I'm not the same cheerful four year old girl she used to know. I finished unpacking the little amount of belongings I had and then sat down at a desk and started working on making a puppet, I had just enough materials to make another one as I had to leave my old one behind. I heard a knock at the door and chose to ignore it. The person just knocked harder.

"Manami are you in there?" I heard Sasori's cheery voice through the door. I sighed and got up to open the door.

"What?" I asked quite bored and slightly irritated not that I would show it.

"U-um..." he stuttered, so I must have scared him.

"Spit it out, I have better things to do than stand here if you are just going to waste my time" I informed him. He blinked and shook himself out of his daze.

"I thought you might want to come with Granny Chiyo and I to visit the shops. I could show you around too if you want" he offered. I sighed and went in to grab a jacket and followed him out.

"Sure I guess that could be fun" I stated walking downstairs with him and we followed Chiyo out the door and we walked around a few shops for an hour.

"Sasori why don't you take Manami with you to the park for a while and I will go and finish up here" Chiyo insisted. Sasori nodded smiling and grabbed my hand dragging me towards the direction of the park.

We sat on the swings in silence watching the other kids play and run about. Everything was fine until I noticed Sasori looking saddened when he saw the other children leave one by one.

"What's wrong?" I couldn't help but ask.

"It's nothing" he said, smiling a fake smile. I just stared at him waiting for him to elaborate and he must have realized how stubborn I was going to be as he gave up and started to tell me. "I just miss my parents is all" he confessed looking towards the ground.

"What happened to them?" I asked thinking they must be dead as he lives with his Granny.

"They went away on a mission together and both haven't come back yet," he turned to smile weakly at me, "But Granny says they should be home any day now so I guess I can wait a little longer" he continued. I nodded turning away to look back at the other kids with their parents.

"What happened to yours?" I suddenly felt the emotions I had tried so hard to forget bubble up. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked" he said quickly and I guessed I must have looked saddened to him.

I quickly recovered and simply told him the truth, "My parents are dead, they died about a year ago and my aunt was supposed to take me in. I was taken away from her a few days ago as she was mistreating me" I said subconsciously pulling my shirt sleeves lower to cover the scars. He must have noticed as he pulled it up to take a look. He stared at it a little taken aback and I sighed looking down ignoring his reaction. I tensed when I felt something tightly wrap around me but relaxed a little when I noticed it was just Sasori giving me a hug.

"You can come and live with me and my parents when they get back. That way I can look after you and make sure you are ok from now on" he said but it was muffled by my shirt. I just stared at him waiting for him to let go. I wanted to smile and be happy but if I let the good feelings in, the bad would be sure to follow.

"Sasori, Manami. Come on, let's head home" Chiyo called to us. Sasori let go of me and we both walked over to her. Sasori grabbed her hand and we started to walk home. I turned to face Sasori a little surprised when Sasori held my hand as well. He just smiled at me and I forced a smile back and out of the corner of my eye I could see Chiyo smirking slightly at the scene before her. We returned home and I left to go straight to my room.

"Manami, are you not getting something to eat?" Chiyo questioned and I shook my head continuing to head upstairs. After about an hour, I heard someone knocking on my door again. I ignored it and I heard it open slightly and then close.

"What do you want?" I questioned the small redhead who had entered my room.

"I just came to see how you were doing" he stated. I turned around to face him and he handed me a plate causing me to just stare at him. "I thought you might be hungry" he told me.

"Thanks" I replied taking the plate off him and setting it to the side.

"What ya working on?" he asked peering over my shoulder.

"A puppet" I responded.

"It looks really good" he commented. "Can you teach me how to make them". I sighed getting very irritated with him talking so much.

"No, I don't teach" I stated.

"Oh.. ok" he muttered as he stood back from me and sat on my bed in the corner of my room watching me work. He sat there and we were just enjoying each other's company when I turned around to find he had fallen asleep in my bed. I walked over to him, lifted him up and carried him back to his room. I gently lay him down on his bed and pulled the covers over his sleeping form.

"Goodnight" I found myself whispering as I walked out of his room, closing the door silently behind me.
