Chapter 1

CHANGE IS A SIMPLE ACTION THAT CAN RESULT WITH MANY OUT COMES. For Athanasia Grace her change would be the same time of every year when, she moved to another town or city to begin again. The girl as her uncle had called it, started over too many times for her liking.

As she sat in the backseat of her uncle Xander's car, she thought back to what her uncle had said before leaving the last town.

" I think that it's time we start over, and take a break from supernatural beings. I have this friend who has a daughter around your age that's moving back, it'll be a perfect opportunity to start fresh."

Xander wanted his niece to have somewhat of a normal life that a slayer could have, the easiest choice was to move to Forks, Washington. Where he knew an old friend by the name of Charlie Swan, who was the chief of police and a close friend to his brother.

Granted it had been a long time ago since he stepped foot in the town but it couldn't change that much right?

Just a typical small town with no vampire's, werewolves or demons in sight.

The perfect little town.

HOUR'S LATER, THE GRACES' HAD ALREADY MOVED INTO THEIR NEW HOUSE. Which conveniently was close to Charlie, who had told them about the Carver Café. Which he dubbed as the only decent place in town.

When they walked in it was complete chaos for Athanasia, though after thought screamed through her head.

If Xander Grace is back in town then something big must of happened..

But where's his brother?

It's not like them to be apart.

When did Xander Grace get a daughter?

Does that mean he's off the market?

I don't see a girlfriend or wife do you think he's widowed?

There's something about that girl, she's different.

She could be friends with the Cullen's, no that's silly they don't talk to anyone but themselves.

Still something is off about her.

Cullen's? That name seemed familiar to the girl like she should know who they are. Before she could dwell on it anymore, a waitress smiled at them, and pointed to a table for them to sit down at.

" Would look what the cat dragged in? Xander Grace how long has it been?" The waitress asked once they sat down," And who is this lovely girl with you?"

" Arlene, one question at a time please." Xander stated," I would say its been a while but you already know that, as for Athanasia she's my niece. "

Please let this woman have more sense then to ask that question.

Xander though as the said question left Arlene's mouth," So where's her parents? Are they on vacation or a work trip? "

Her uncle was about to answer before Athanasia replied with a tight lipped smile," They can't do any of those things because they have been in the ground for years now."

The whole dinner turned silent from the girl's statement as Arlene studered with an reply," Ohh-um I'm so sorry for your loss. "

"Ana! " Xander scolded the girl before giving the waitress an apologetic look," Sorry about her, she's not one to mince her word's. "

" There's nothing wrong with that," Arlene stated handing both of them a menu and saying," I'll be back when you're ready to order."

And with that the waitress left them to talk amongst themselves.

The slayer shrugged at her uncle picking up the menu scanning it for a few seconds to see her uncle still glaring at her.

" I know, I shouldn't have been that rude to her but she just wouldn't leave us alone. Let alone the people here haven't stopped staring at us since we walked in and you should hear the thoughts that they have been screaming at me." Athanasia explained in a low whisper.

Xander looked around the dinner, to see everyone looking back at their own table's immediately after realizing that he was looking.

" It's a small town the people here are bound to be curious. It won't be this bad Monday when you go to school. You'll have Bella who you can share the burden of being the new girl with. "

" You say that like it's a good thing, I don't even know this girl and you want me to be friend's with her?" She asked sceptically.

" You liked Charlie, I don't see how his daughter will be that different." Xander answered.

She simply gave him a sceptical look as Arlene returned to take their order's.

THE DRIVE BACK WAS A QUIET ONE, THE SLAYER AND HER UNCLE WERE LOST IN THEIR OWN MINDS. It was times like this Xander missed his older brother, he always knew what to do and say he was perfect in everyway that mattered. How could he ever be anything close to that in his eyes he was a terrible stand in at best.

" So a cop this time? " Athanasia questioned trying to break the silence that surrounded them.

" It seemed more fitting than my last job. " Xander replied smiling at her attempt to break the ice.

That made the said girl laugh recalling his last job, which had been a substitute for the football coach. While it had seemed fitting at the time, they found out quickly that he didn't know that much about the mechanics of the game. It was a wonder that he didn't get fired after that reelection.

So what if I didn't know anything about the game, they were desperate for people. That wasn't the worst one I've had over the year's.

After hearing her uncle's thought they spent the rest of the ride and night laughing and reminiscing about the all the good memories from the past years.

For what seemed like the first time in her life she didn't feel like she was just a slayer that had the world on her shoulder's, she felt like a normal teenage girl.
