Finale
After Ellen and Oscar came back bringing food for both Henry and Alex, they gobbled in hunger and relief came over both of Alex's parents as they saw him eating with Henry. Although Henry barely managed to finish half a burger but it was satisfying to see him back on his usual self, so does Alex. "The best burger I had in years." Henry claims and all of them laughs at his reaction.
The doctor came back to check on Henry and surprised flashes all over his faces, Alex can see Sophia joined them from behind and she had a stunt expression over her face as well seeing Henry up and awake sitting on the bed with food right before him. "Seriously? Back from the coma and the first thing you ate is a greasy burger?" She asks and Henry smirked at her. "Good to see you as well Sophia. Sorry to disappoint." Henry can see she hides her smiles over her face by looking down on the chart in her hand.
"Something's wrong?" Alex asks concerned over her silenced considering she is not here for visiting. "I don't know what to say. He was declared brain dead and there is no brain activity over the past ten days and now- he's - here and awake. I don't know how it happened or how to explain it." She says earning them all a worried look over Henry. "Does it even matter?" Oscar asks and they all turned their head towards him.
"Does it even matter now considering that Henry is awake and alive. We should be celebrating not stressing around looking for answers. Right?" He asks them and Alex smiled at his father's words. "I don't give a fuck you're telling me that he is brain dead before, maybe you're wrong. You can't explain this so I don't want to hear it." Alex stood from the chair besides Henry and Henry can feel the rage is rising in Alex seeing his fist balled up next to him. He took Alex's hand in his and slowly he exhaled and his stiffed fingers are relaxed in Henry's.
"Everyone just calm down. Sophia is doing her job as a doctor, my doctor. She has gone by everything in the book and you can't blame her. I don't blame her saying that I was brain dead and I know she is following the rules, but she did everything that she could to help us." Henry saw the look on Sophia's face soften at his words. "Thank you for saving my life." Henry words made her eyes glistened with tears but she hides it well.
They had to examine him thoroughly considering that he just woke up for ten days coma and now he is eating burgers with Alex and his parents.
Alex and his parents waited outside while they are examining Henry inside the room. Alex leaned against the wall when his eyes caught the delivery guy brought a bouquet of flowers for one of the patients here. "Dad, you're still ordained from your friend's wedding?" Alex suddenly asks earning Oscar a confused look, "I think, if those things doesn't have any expiry. Why?" He asks his son and Ellen had a wide smile on her face. "Oh my gosh Alex you're gonna get married here?" She squealed in excitement and Alex rolled his eyes before hiding his own smile at her reaction.
"Think I don't want to wait anymore. We don't need a wedding, we just need paperwork and be done with our vows. I'm tired of overthinking things." He says sighing at the thought of him and Henry's future seems bleak almost 24 hours ago.
They were both interrupted from the thought and excitement when the doctors and the nurses came out of Henry's room finished with their examination. "Is he alright?" Alex asks them and Sophia nods towards the rest and they all left leaving her alone to do the talking. "He's fine for now. We removed the catheter so he will move to the bathroom soon. Other than that he is- fine." She says and Alex sighed crossing his arm over his chest.
"You said that already, anything else should we worry about?" Alex asks sternly and Sophia pressed her lips together. "Alex, we just saw Henry lying down on that bed for ten days, no movement, no prospect of hope and suddenly- he woke up. But that doesn't mean that he is healed entirely. He might still had seizure, he might still had migraines and he is still not out of danger yet."
Alex shook his head not wanting to hear her any longer, "I don't care, he is here, he is awake and it's all that matter to me." Ellen can see how stubborn Alex can be sometimes and failed to see how true her words are, "Alex, she's right. Although you didn't want to admit it. Henry is still in recovery. Consider the possibilities." Ellen told him and he shook his head before he grabbed Henry's door, "I don't care. I'm not wasting time thinking about this anymore, not right now at least." He turned the knob and opened the door leaving his parents outside sighing in their thoughts.
He saw Henry by the edge of the bed with his normal plain shirt on and he had his sweatpants that Alex brought from home. He was pulling the hem of his shirt down by the time Alex walked in and he smiled seeing Alex stepped in from behind his shoulder. "What did she say?" He asks and wanted to stand from the bed only to find gravity doesn't exactly agreeing with him. He almost fell on the floor if not for Alex rushed to his side and caught him in time.
"Jesus Henry! You shouldn't be out of bed. What the hell are you thinking?!" He yells at Henry's face and he was taken back by his sudden raised of voice. "Why are you so angry?" He asks after Alex helped him sit back on the bed and Alex didn't exactly answer him. He clenched his jaw tight and he kept pushing henry to lie down but Henry pushed his hand away not wanting to obey him. "Stop fighting me. You need to be on the bed." He told Henry but Henry won't budge and grabbed Alex's chin to face Henry's.
"What is it? Tell me baby." Henry whispered looking deep into his eyes and Alex broke down. He sat on the chair with his head rested on Henry's lap breaking into tears and Henry let his fingers runs through his curls. "I'm scared Hen, I can't lose you again." He says and Henry exhaled a long breath stroking his curls from his temple. "I'm not going anywhere Alex. I'm right here." He says and Alex shot his head up to look at him again.
"But it could happened. You could have another seizure or another migraine and I'm might not gonna be there again when it happened. But that time, you won't wake up anymore. You won't survive another one. How many times exactly did someone can escape death in their life Hen?" Alex grabbed Henry's hand in his and hold it like it was going to break. His tears kept pooling in his eyes and it fell on his cheek as he blinks.
"Baby. Look at me." Henry told him and Alex refused at first but Henry pulled his chin up to face him and their eyes met. "I know it's scary but we don't know what's in our future. I don't know what's gonna happened tomorrow and neither do you." Henry cupped Alex's cheek and slowly leaned towards Alex's lips and they shared a soft kiss together before Henry released again.
"I love you and I don't care how much borrowed time I had with you. I am not dwelling in the past anymore, I'm looking forward to our future." Their forehead leans and Alex smiled feeling Henry's thumb stroking his cheek. "Let's get married, today, tomorrow I don't care. My dad can married us here." Henry chuckled softly at his words and pressed his lips together. "I'm free tomorrow. Get's you time to find the paperwork ready." Alex smirked at Henry's plan and nodded. "Will do Mr Fox." He leaned to kiss Henry on his lips again and they both couldn't be anymore happier right now being with each other.
.
"Why do I have to wear this? We're getting married in a freaking hospital and you want me to wear my tux?" Henry protest over the phone with Alex and he can hear rustling from behind the speaker and God knows what is he doing right now. Ellen was fixing his boutonniere on his lapel when she heard him protest. "Patience Henry, you don't think Alex would want you to wear those hideous sweatpants in your wedding photos do you?" Henry laughs hearing Ellen's words and saw that she is done fixing his tux and bow. He strained his neck feeling the tightness over the chokehold and sighed.
"Let's get you married Diaz." He said over the speaker, "Get your ass here then Fox." He replied equally and Henry smiles. Nora pushed the wheelchair inside Henry's room and his face contorts in total disgust. "Nu-uh please. This is humiliating." Henry says in protest and they both shared the same look on their faces. "If you can walk a hundred meter without actually falling limped on the ground, be my guest Henry." Nora challenged him and he sighed in defeat.
"Fine. Being wheeled like a toddler into my own wedding." He says before he stood up from the bed and almost tripped on his weak knees to the ground after taking a few steps. Luckily for him for Ellen still right besides him and caught his elbow in time, "See? You hadn't used your legs in ten days Henry, give it time. You will be running before you know it sweetheart." She tries to coax him seeing how upset Henry was over his disabilities right now. He nods agreeing with her and sooner or later, he would be running into Alex's arm again, it's just a matter of time.
As they wheeled them into one of the chapel located inside the hospital, they can't help whistling towards Henry over his handsomeness being in his tux and he blushes all the way being congratulated by every working staff there.
As Nora pushed him towards the chapel's wooden door, he can see Sophia stood there with Shan besides her and there is a lady standing next to Shan. Henry smiled widely seeing Shan and he can feel his heart warmth with relief. "Glad to see you alright sir." He handed out his hand over Henry and he pulled Shan for a hug instead. "Thank you for everything Shan. I owe you my life." Henry whispers over bended Shan in his ear and he smiled nodding at him. "It's my duty sir. You helped me a lot." He said before he straightened his back and offered his arm towards the girl next to him, "Sir, this is Zahra Shrivastava, my wife."
Henry smiled widen at her knowing they both finally got married even though he couldn't be there for Shan but he is happy that they both finally settled down. "Nice to meet you Mr Fox." She handed out her hand and Henry smiled returning her gesture. "Call me Henry. She's beautiful Shan." Henry says and Shan smiles widen at her. "We have been talking and we have decided." Zahra says turning her gaze towards Shan besides her and back to Henry with a smile on their faces.
"We decided to move here to New York, I got a job here at one of the law firm and I think Shan needs you more than you need him sir." Zahra said and Henry's eyes widen at her words. "Seriously? You're not quitting?" Henry asks and Shan chuckled at his excitement. "I can't leave you sir, you are part of me and there is no way in hell I'm letting Alex takes care of you alone." Henry laughs at his comment about how terrible Alex is at his lost.
"I'm glad." He says and he can feel the tears are brimming making him wiped it hurriedly not wanting to cry before his vows. "Ready?" Sophia stepped in between their conversation and Henry smiled at her seeing her in that emerald dress and he stops her by grabbing her wrist. "Thank you for everything. Alex might be an asshole sometimes but he loves you and I don't think he can survive going through all of that horrible situation without you in it. I do appreciate what you did for him while I'm gone." Henry says and Sophia pressed her lips from trembling knowing how that word felt.
"Just don't break his heart anymore Henry." She says and Henry smiled nodding at her. He can't promise her anything knowing what would have happened in the future but he does promised that he will never break Alex's heart while he's alive.
He exhaled through his pursed lips as Shan pushed him towards the chapel door leaving the girls walking from behind him. The moment the door opened, Henry can see the chapel has beautifully decorated with flowers and laces covered bench with more flowers arrangement and he had to give credit to Alex for this arrangement.
From the end of the aisle he can see Alex stood with Oscar beside him in the middle of the altar and his back is facing Henry. "If I wanna do this, I wanna do this right. I want to walk." He said and Shan had a concerned look on his face, "Sir, you are still recovering." Henry turned his head to look at Shan, "Help me then." He says and Shan turned to look at Sophia and she smiled holding out her palm over Henry and he took it.
Henry stood with his hands and legs trembled on the floor but Sophia hand her arm holding Henry on one side and Shan the other. He stood straight to see the aisle is a lot longer than he thought and regretted his decision but the moment Alex turned to face him with that smiled on his face and his eyes glistened with tears, he had found courage and strength to push his legs forward. "Baby steps Henry." Sophia whispered and Henry nods.
One foot in front of the other and by the time Henry knows it, he almost reached Alex by the altar and he had took a step over the small stairs. It was Alex turned to hold out his palm over for Henry and he smiled taking his. "Together." Alex whispers and Henry smiled, "Together."
"Ladies and Gentleman, we are gathered here today to celebrate the union between my son, Alexander Gabriel Claremont-Diaz and his partner of choice, Henry Fox. This union is long awaited and finally here we are, at last." They all laughs at them and Henry can't help grinning over the fact that this is long overdue.
"Alex, Henry. Marriage is the promise between two people who love each other, and who trusts in that love, who honor each other as individuals, and who choose to spend the rest of their lives together." Oscar starts and he can see how strong Alex hold on on to Henry being his pillar of strength.
"This ceremony will not create a relationship that does not already exist between you. It is a symbol of how far you have come these past few years. It is a symbol of promise you will make to each other to continue growing stronger as individuals and as partners. No matter what challenges you face, you now face them together, and no matter much you succeed, you now succeed together. The love between you joins you now as one."
Henry took a deep breath feeling every words struck deep in his heart. He can't help letting few tears fall on his face and Alex smiled rubbing the pad of his thumb over his cheek, wiping the tears away. They had been through a lot in this life, both of them did. This is the reward they both got after all the shit they had been through together.
"I believe you both had vows prepared maybe ten days ago." Henry and Alex chuckled and so does the rest of the crowd. Alex started with his and Henry can see he had memorized every word in his mind.
"Henry, my love, my partner, my soul and my reason to live. There is no words that can explain our love story. Our journey had embarked since before we even meet each other. It was fate that brought us together and I chose to believe so. The moment I saw you in that emergency room that night, bloodied and half dead, I knew then that I had to know who you are. In my heart, you are just the broken soul that need someone to patch up and healed. But Henry, everyone thought I saved you that night but turns out, you're the one that saved me."
Alex held Henry's hand tighter feeling the tears pooling in his eyes before he continued further. "You saved me from drowning in my own past for losing my sister. You made our family reunited knowing you don't get anything in returned. You might think you're damaged back then but baby, I was more damaged. But there isn't a day in my life without thinking about you, about us. I just wish that I met you sooner instead of later."
Oscar handed him the rings in his palm and he smiled wiping his tears before he took it from his father. "I promise you, like this ring, our love is infinite and forever." He pushed the gold ring over Henry's finger and he exhaled feeling the relief over his part. Henry smiled staring at Alex's face before he wiped his own tears, "That's a tough act to follow." He says and they all laughs.
He exhaled again through his pursed lips before he continue. "Alexander." He can see Alex rolled his eyes at him and he chuckled softly, "I know how much you hated how I say your name like that but Alex, I wouldn't waste anymore time not calling you my partner, my lover, my Alexander." He can see Alex smiled grew, wrinkling the corner of his eyes when he does.
"Five years ago I learnt that losing you was the horrible thing I could ever experienced. I thought I was doing the world a favor by not being your constant burden over your shoulder. But Alex, the whole time I was stuck on that bed, my thoughts went to you and only you. You had become my arms, my legs and my strength knowing that if I don't fight this, I won't be able to see you again. I was holding on to the hope that one day, I get to see you again, to tell you how wrong I was for leaving and make up for all the times that we had lost by making you mine. But even then, I know that the possibilities are low for you to forgive me but you did. Your forgiving heart has never fails me and I owed you so much."
Henry took the ring from Oscar and almost wobbled at the weaken of his legs but Shan held him by his back and held him steady earning Alex a concerned look. "I'm fine." He whispered and slowly Shan let him go.
"Alex. I can't promise you that dark clouds will never hovers over our lives, or that the future will bring us many rainbows. I can't promise you that tomorrow will be perfect or that life will be easy with me. But I can promise you my everlasting devotion, my loyalty, my respect and my unconditional love for a lifetime." He pushed the ring past Alex's finger and their hands held each other again.
Oscar smiles seeing his wife crying right over the front row with Nora and Sophia in between her. He smiled seeing the light shine from the above tall window and almost caught a glimpse of shadow in the dark behind the pillars and his eyes pooling with tears of longing.
"We have lost so much in this life and I know we are being protected by those that we love. They are watching over us all these years just like they are watching us right now by being here in our hearts." Alex and Henry smiled knowing exactly what Oscar meant.
"To the souls that have gathered here today, we welcomed and thank you. Bear witnessed to commitment in its truest form as Alex and Henry pledge their love to one another in marriage. With their love, we learnt that relationship only works if we work together in understanding each other. Without any further delay, Henry, do you take my son Alex as your husband, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, to love and protect him until you both shall lived."
Henry smiled at Alex's teary face before he answered, "I do, a million times I do." Alex smiles widen with more tears coming down on his face.
"Alex." His father called him and he laughs at him, "Do you promised to take Henry, through his sickness and his health, to care for him, to protect him from all of his demons and his pasts and you will love him every day till you both shall lived."
Alex took a deep breath before he exhaled and his eyes sets straight into Henry's eyes, "I do, thousand percents I do." Henry smiled pressing his lips together. "By the power vested in me, I now pronounced you both husbands."
"You both can sealed this with a kiss." Oscar says and before Henry could react, Alex pulled him colliding their chest together and kissed his husbands lips deeply and passionately. They all cheered and can't help tearing at the union and clapped echoing all around the chapel.
"I love you Mr Henry Fox-Claremont-Diaz" Alex said holding on to Henry's waist in his arm. "Oh God, I have to learn a new signature isn't it?" He says earning Alex a laughs before leaned to kiss him again. "I love you more Mr Claremont-Diaz-Fox." Henry replies that earned Alex more kisses on his lips.
