Mourning.
Her heels clicked against the marble floor, grabbing much attention to her form as she proudly walked over to the stage and mounted it. The Avengers moved to the front instantly, watching as she moved to the piano.
Stark looked to the orchestra, silencing them with a nod as all eyes moved to the seated girl.
Marina breathed a small breathe, looking down at the keys with shaky fingers before beginning.
The sound of the instrument filled the room, guests instantly swaying to the rhythm of the song. They didn't expect her to sing though, and they were all truly shocked.
Close enough to start a war
All that I have is on the floor
God only knows what we're fighting for
All that I say, you always say more
She thought back to moments with her sister.
I can't keep up with your turning tables
Under your thumb, I can't breathe
"Marina you are running so fast!"
"Hehe, Keep up!"
So, I won't let you close enough to hurt me
No, I won't ask you, you to just desert me
I cant give you, what you think you gave me
It's time to say goodbye to turning tables
To turning tables
"I can't believe it's gone, all gone. Our friends, our Family...our home"
Under haunted skies I see ooh
Where love is lost, your ghost is found
I braved a hundred storms to leave you
As hard as you try, no I will never be knocked down
"We will always be together though"
I can't keep up with your turning tables
Under your thumb, I can't breathe
"Welcome to New York's finest University for Gifted and Talented!"
So, I won't let you close enough to hurt me, no
I won't ask you, you to just desert me
I cant give you, what you think you gave me
It's time to say goodbye to turning tables
Turning tables
"You got this?"
Next time I'll be braver
I'll be my own savior
When the thunder calls for me
Next time I'll be braver
I'll be my own savior
Standing on my own two feet
"I just did...want to know what it felt like?"
I won't let you close enough to hurt me, no
I won't ask you, you to just desert me
I cant give you, what you think you gave me
It's time to say goodbye to turning tables
To turning tables
Turning tables, yeah
Turning, oh
"It felt like that"
Her fingers stilled, the room becoming silent as she bowed her head. The last memory, her sisters smile. She abruptly stood, no longer liking the idea of standing upon that stage. Her dress fluttered about her form, her hair swishing softly as she looked up at the awe struck crowd who slowly began to clap.
"I don't got this" she whispered, lifting her dress slightly as she ran of the stage, the clock striking midnight and fireworks illuminating the sky as the orchestra began once more and people danced their first dance of the new year.
The team however had other ideas, Steve went sprinting towards the others, his gaze set on Pietro who he knew could find the distressed girl in no time.
"Pietro go find" he ordered frantically.
"On it" he replied, removing his blazer of his suit and rolling up the sleeves of his shirt to his elbows before zooming off.
"What do you think that was then?" Natasha questioned, walking over to the group.
"That was her way of letting go" Tony nodded, answering Natasha question.
~To Marina~
She sprinted out of the ball room, seeking refuge in the one place she had grew to call home. The Compound. Her heels clicked against the pavement, fireworks exploding over head and lighting the dark sky and people all around celebrated.
She finally came upon the compound, punching in the keypad code to enter and rushing into the elevator to get to the top floor. The common room floor.
She burst into the dark room, tugging her heels of and padding straight onto the balcony. Marina looked out into the sky, watching the brightly coloured fireworks continuously fire up into the sky and burst into an array of colours.
A soft sigh left her lips, arms resting on the barrier as she moved her gaze to look down onto the city. New York was gorgeous.
However her view was cut short, strong arms wrapped around her waist, twisting her around to face the frame that stood behind her. Pietro. His hair was slightly tussled, first button of his shirt undone and his sapphire blue tie loosely tied.
His arms wrapped tightly around her waist, bringing her close to his frame as he lowered his lips to her ear.
"Happy New Years Printsessa" he whispered huskily, sendings shivers down her spine when he did so.
She responded by wrapping her arms around the back of his neck and standing on her tip toes as he placed his forehead against hers.
"Happy New Years Pietro" she breathed, his lips ghosting over hers before she leaned in and pressed her lips against his.
It was a New Years kiss.
