"Who're you calling a puppy, Bumble Bee?"

Rory's pov :

"Jake!"
The dimpled, brunette boy in front of me laughed as he picked me up and wrapped me in his arms.
"I missed you J," I mumbled into his shoulder as he squeezed the living day lights out of me. "And I love you, but you really need to let me breath."
Jake let out a small chuckle and loosened his grip on me, "Sorry, Bumble Bee."
We hadn't moved in minutes, rather we stayed wrapped in each other's arms.
Jake was family. The two of us didn't share any blood, but he did hold a piece of my heart. This boy was my shoulder to cry on and my partner in crime for years. Eventually, he became more than just a best friend; he became my brother.
"There's a guy glaring at me," Jake whispered in my ear.
Before I had the chance to process Jake's words, I was ripped from his arms and yanked into a strong chest.
"Mine."
His voice, alone, was enough to send my body into a frenzy, but with his body pressed against mine, it was as if I was on fire. Sparks erupted along my skin, leaving a blazing trail behind them as they spread over my body.
"Jase—"
"Darren, take Aurora outside."
It was like déjà vu as I felt Darren left me up and carry me to the door, while I thrashed in his grasp.
"Let me go! Darren! Stop!"
"Dammit, Rory. Can't you just submit?" Darren muttered as he carried my fighting form to the door.
"Submit?! You want me to fûcking submit?!" I was livid. My brother, who doubled as my best friend and hero, wanted me to give up. The same boy who taught me to be strong, was asking me to be weak. "Why in God's name hell, would I fûcking submit?!"
"Because I'm the goddamn Alpha!" My head snapped towards Jase, "I make the rules, little mate."
Jase's charcoal orbs met my aqua ones, as he snarled at my fighting figure, "Submit."
His voice was deeper, and it was colder. It wasn't Jase speaking, that much was evident; it was the beast inside of him.
Darren growled at the angry Alpha who was stomping towards me, as his instinct to protect his luna and sister arose, but that only worked to further anger my beastly mate.
"Darren, let go of me," I ordered, in a cold and distant voice.
It was downhill battle for him. He had no choice but to obey my command, but that did not ease his worry nor did it dull his instincts.
"Auri—"
"Now Darren."
Reluctantly, Darren let go of me, leaving me exposed to the fury of my alpha mate.
But as Jase stepped in front of me, my lovable idiot of a friend broke the silence, "Stay away from Rory, you dîckhead."
"Jake, shut the hell up," I hissed, as I wrapped my arms tightly around my mate.
Jase let out a small purr of satisfaction, but remained rigid—a sure sign his beast was still in control.
"Jase, baby—"
"Baby?! What the actual fûck is going on, Rory?!"
"Jake! Shut up!"
Jase let out a territorial growl when he saw my eyes on another male, but it died down as soon as soon as I wrapped my arms around him again.
"Why the fûck does this dude sound like a goddamn dog?!"
Muttering a string of curses under my breath, I forced Jase behind me, so that if he were to get angry I would be in between Jake and him. Hopefully that would mean he won't attack.
"Which part of shut the hell up don't you understand?"
Jake rolled his eyes, "The part where you're mad at me, and not the two psycho bïtches behind you!"
"I'm not mad at you, J," I felt Jase's chest grumble behind me, but I ignored him. "I'm trying to protect you."
"Protect me from what?"
"My psycho of a boyfriend."
"Why the hell are you going out with a fûcking psycho?" Jake hissed, as Jase and Darren let out a string of protective growls, all of which I ignored.
"Jakob Warren!"
"Aurora Winters!"
I glared at him, my blue eyes icy, but he glared right back. Jake was persistent, always has bern, and he wasn't going stop now.
But this wasn't something I could explain.
"Can't we just drop this Jake? Get ice cream, hangout?"
Jake and Jase spoke simultaneously, they're glares only growing more intense with each passing minute. They both said, "No."
They both tried to grab me, but it was Jase who held me in the end. His arms snaked around my waist and he tucked me snugly into his side. But despite me being in his arms, his gaze didn't waiver as he continued to glare at Jake.
"If you ever come near my mate, I will rip you apart limb by limb. Understood?" I had never seen such an animalistic glint in Jase's eyes until he spoke to Jake.
But Jake wasn't phased by Jase. He scoffed, "Your mate? She was my friend first, Buddy."
Jase's eyes swam with danger, as he pressed a quick kiss onto my temple and handed me to Darren. "Do you want to lay a claim on my mate again?" He snarled.
"Stop it! Jase! He doesn't know!" My voice was frantic as I screamed, but my brooding mate wasn't having it, "I swear to God, he is only a friend! Jase, look at me!"
Jase spun towards me, it was almost as if he was following command, until he gave Darren a silent signal. Almost instantaneously, Darren began to take me out of the room. Again.
"Darren! Stop! It hurts, Darren. My stomach hurts."
They all froze. Jase, Darren and even Jake—who was quaking in the corner—froze. Their eyes all snapped to me, and in a mere second, I was wrapped in my mate's arms.
And even with the sparks dancing along my skin, all I could think was Jake knows.
He may not know that they're werewolves, but he knows they're not human. How could he not? He just saw Jase cross the room in a split second.
Oh Jase.
Always breaking the rules for me.
But Jake didn't react. He stood, rooted to his spot in the corner, unblinkingly staring at us.
There was no fear in his eyes, only surprise but that too wasn't as predominant as I had expected.
"Jake?" My voice was quiet, but the room around us was silent. "J?"
I tried to escape Jase's grasp to check on Jake, but my stubborn mate wasn't having it.
He carried me to the hospital bed, and gently layed me under the covers. All while, Darren stood in the corner opposite to the one Jake was occupying and scrutinized my mate's every move.
"Rory, I have to confess something," Jake said, guilt plastered all over his face.
"Jake?"
He nodded at me, dismissively, and continued, "I asked Ali out on a date."
I squealed. My two best friends were going to date! "Jake! I'm so happy for you guys!"
"No, that wasn't the confession—"
"Then?"
"I screwed up. I mixed up the days, a-and I-I stood-d h-her u-up," Jake's eyes were sad as he spoke, teary even. "Your turn."
I took a deep breath.
It was my turn to confess.
"I'm dating—scratch that. I'm mated to a werewolf who doubles as my brother's best friend."
Jake choked on his own saliva, "W-what?"
"He's my soulmate, Jake. And he turns into a big ass puppy."
Jase let out a growl, "A wolf. I turn into a wolf."
I giggled and not-so discretely shook my head.
"He's definitely a puppy."
