Reject's POV

"What do you want to do for your last day?" Ashton jumped onto the couch cushion next to Rain, jolting the bowl of ramen noodles in my lap. I yelped and jumped up as the hot broth spilled on my pajama bottoms.

Ashton apologized as I wiped myself off, "I'm sorry, Rae. I didn't mean to do that."

"It's fine." I sighed and picked up the remaining noodles my clothing, "I should get dressed anyway."

"I'M GOING TO MAKE PANCAKES!" Calum announced and pulled some bowls and measuring cups out of the kitchen cabinets. I internally groaned. Luckily, there was a fresh fire extinguisher next to the door. Hopefully we won't need to use it.

Today is Rain's last day with us. I'm sad to see her go, I think we all are. She's like a sister to me. But we can still keep in touch with Skype and other forms of communication. Rain will have a great life with her two new fathers. She'll love it there.

I quickly picked my outfit for the day. A pastel pink All Time Low tank top with white shorts and a few loose gold colored bracelets. I pulled my hair into a high bun and applied some light mascara. Today felt good. The sunshine was coming through my windows, giving a warm and cheerful feeling.

"Rain, don't waste your appetite on pizza." Calum was scolding her, "I'm making some nice pancakes for us. I don't care how punk rock you are, you can't eat pizza for breakfast."

"Watch me." Rain took a bite of the cold pepperoni pizza that was leftover from the night before.

Calum crossed his arms and took a step towards her. "You wouldn't dare."

"I would." Rain smiled deviously and took another bite.

"That's it!" Calum charged towards her, "GIVE ME THE PIZZA!"

"NEVER!"

While Calum and Rain participated in a high speed chase around the house, the teapot on the stove began to hiss. The pan containing the pancake batter that was currently cooking was curling up and steaming.

"Ashton! Your tea is done! And the pancakes are burning!" I called.

He quickly came into the kitchen and pulled the teapot off the stove. He then poured the hot water into a mug and put a teabag in. Meanwhile, the pancake kept getting more and more burned. Luke came down the stairs and sat in the bar stool besides me at the kitchen counter.

"Hi Rae." Luke greeted me with a fist bump, "Ashton, you've got a burning pancake."

Ashton swore to himself as he used a spatula to try to scrape the pancake off the frying pan. It did come off, but it flopped on the floor. Luke bit back a smile.

"YOU WILL NEVER CATCH ME!" Rain ran by with Calum close behind her.

"Guys be careful of the tea-" Luke warned them but it was too late. The ceramic mug shattered on the hard linoleum floor and liquid spread everywhere.

"Oops." Rain said sheepishly and moved out of the way of the steady stream of tea of was making it's way towards her. Calum quickly stole the piece of pizza from Rain's hand and bolted out of the back door.

"YOU FUCKING BASTARD!" Rain yelled and ran after him.

Ashton, startled by the sudden noise, spun around quickly and knocked the rest of the pancake batter on to the hot stove. The smoke alarm went off with an ear piercing wail. I quickly put my hands to my ears and rested my head against the counter. I hate loud noises like this.

"WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?" Michael ran in wearing nothing more than a pair of boxer shorts.

"TURN OFF THE SMOKE ALARMS!" Ashton yelled back and tried to mop up some of the spilled tea.

Michael went over to the doorway and pressed a button that stopped the smoke alarms. The house got slightly more quiet. The kitchen was a mess. Pancake batter, tea, and even spilled flour covered the floors and stove. Michael opened his mouth to say something but was cut off by the appearance of Rain and Calum...who were soaking wet.

"He pushed me in the damn pool." Rain grumbled.

"She pulled me in after her." Calum said in an equally try tone of voice.

Ashton facepalmed, "You all are fucking idiots."

Just then, the front door opened and a formal looking woman stood at the door. I'm pretty sure that's Elise, their manager. I looked around the room. Michael is practically naked, Rain and Calum look like they just got caught in a downpour, and Ashton had pancake batter all over himself. The only normal looking people in the room were Luke and I.

"Um, hi Elise." Ashton said awkwardly, "Now is a bit of an inconvenient time."

"I can see that." She looked around, "I would just like to remind you that you have a photoshoot with Rae at 4, which means transportation will arrive at 3 and you guys have to magazine ready by then. Shall I send over housekeeping to tidy up the place?"

"That would be helpful. Thank you Elise."

"I hate goodbyes." Rain looked down and dug at the gravel on the driveway with the toe of her shoe. I could see tears filling her eyes.

"Never say goodbye because saying goodbye means going away, and going away means forgetting." Michael said quietly. I know that quote. It's from Peter Pan.

"Come here and give me a hug, you stupid dork." Rain's voice was more choked up now as she went to hug Michael. Rain really is a good kid. She's like a sister to me.

Rain hugged the rest of the guys and then got to Ashton and I. She looked up and the pulled both of us into a tight hug.

"You two are my family." There was no holding back the tears now.

"You're going to have a new family." Ashton said, "One that will love you even more than we do."

"But what if it doesn't work?" Rain whispered, "What if they decide they don't want me?"

Ashton shook his head, "Don't focus on the what ifs. They don't matter. The only thing that does is that someone does want you. They chose you out of all the kids."

"I'm going to text you every day." I promised, "Every single day. Whether you like it or not."

"Godammit Rae." Rain wiped her eyes, "I'm going to miss all of you so much."

this one is so boring i am literally cringing at myself

but i already have 1800 words for the next chapter, which will probably be posted today or tomorrow
