Chapter 21
The next morning, Sofia woke up to do her morning routine at the same time as usual. She went to the park and did a warm-up exercise before starting her jog. At a turn, she thought she saw Simon but it was not him. It was another guy who looked had a very similar physique to Simon. She was missing him. She wanted to meet and talk to him about everything.
After completing her jog, she decided to visit Simon. She reached Evan's house in a few minutes. Mr. Evans was already leaving for work since his workplace was a bit far from their house. They were shocked to see Sofia after Bella's visit. They had never thought that they would see Sofia again.
Camilla was making her husband wear his jacket. Just as he was about to open the door, the door was knocked. He stepped forward and opened the door.
"Good morning, " Sofia said cheerfully.
"Oh good morning dear. How are you?" John greeted her.
"I'm fine. Sorry to drop by unannounced." She said apologetically.
"Oh dear, it's no problem. Join us for breakfast." Camilla said hugging her.
"Sure. I'd love to. Where's everyone?" Sofia asked as Camilla pulled out a chair for her to sit.
"Kids, Look who's here!" Camilla called from the base of the staircase. Right after a few moments, Hazel and Sam dashed down and threw themselves at Sofia.
"Sofia! Where were you? We missed you so much!" Hazel exclaimed as she sat beside her. Sam sat across her but he was silent which so was unlike him. Sofia noticed his uneasiness.
"I got sick and then some "mum" problems. You know her." Sofia said.
" You look so different. In a good way of course." Hazel said as she examined her hair.
" Yeah... Dad took me to the salon and made me get a makeover. How do I look?" Sofia asked.
"You look mighty fine, girl," Hazel said with a huge smile.
" And I'm starting work with him today. " Sofia said.
"Wow, that's so nice dear. Good luck with your first day." Camilla said as she put Sofia's favorite chocolate pancakes in front of her.
"That's why I came here to meet you, people. I missed you all so much." Sofia replied as she started eating her food.
"Sofia dear, just remember one thing. Use your money and power to help others not to be a spoilt brat. You're too precious to be a brat. Do you understand?" Camilla said as she looked at Sofia.
"Yes. I get it." Sofia said as she gave her a smile.
"Where's Simon? I wanted to meet him before I leave but I haven't seen him around. He didn't even call me." Sofia said.
"He's gone out of town for some work. He'll be back soon. I'll tell him to call you." Sam said firmly. It was the first time he spoke since Sofia came.
"Sam.," Sofia said but Sam gestured her to stop.
"You don't need to come here anymore. Did you know your mother dropped by and created a scene just because you spent your childhood with us?" Sam said as he put his fork down. Sofia was hurt. Her mother had messed up once more in her life.
"Samuel Jacob Evans! Enough! I will not allow you to talk to Sofia in this manner! None of it was her fault. " Camilla scolded him.
"That woman is her mother! So it is her fault. Not Sofia's." Sam said as he saw Sofia crying silently. Hazel was rubbing her back, soothing her.
"Go to your room right now, Sam! I don't want to see you here." Sam stood up and went to his room quietly.
"Shh... I'm sorry about all this. Please stop crying, dear. He is just very angry." Camilla said as she hugged Sofia.
"It's okay. It's not his words that hurt me. It's my mother's actions that hurt me more." Sofia said wiping her tears.
"No dear, she's a mother. I can understand her feelings. She's just possessive of her family." Camilla said as she tucked a strand of stray hair behind Sofia's hair.
"Now it's getting late for your office. Don't take any of Sam's words seriously. You know he blabbers a lot. I'm going to give him a nice beating so he'll learn how to behave. You're always welcome here any time you want to see us." Camilla said as she winked. Sofia nodded and hugged both Hazel and Camilla then left.
She reached her house, took a shower and dressed in an emerald green boat neck outfit with nude stilettos. She wore her watch, pearl studs and took her purse. She put on minimal makeup which only consisted of a peachy lip gloss, an eyeliner, and mascara. She put her sunglasses on top of her head after tying her brown hair in a high ponytail. And she looked no less than a supermodel.
She was not one of those girls who loved caking makeup on their faces and overloading themselves with jewelry. After giving herself a once over in the large oval mirror, she descended the stairs being careful not to trip on any of the stairs.
Bella and Jeremy were having a quiet breakfast when they heard Sofia coming down.
"Oh, it must be Sofia." He said as he got up from his seat and dashed out to meet his daughter.
"Hey princess, how are you feeling today?" He asked as he gave her a final look.
"Good morning dad. I'm feeling great just a little nervous." She said as she hugged him and kissed his cheek.
"Don't worry princess, you'll do great. I'll teach you everything you need and more." He said as he kissed her forehead. Sofia saw Bella standing in the doorway of the dining room.
"Good morning dear mum, aren't you shocked to see me like this?" Sofia said as she pointed at herself.
"Good morning Sofia. I'm not shocked. After all, you're my daughter." Bella said with pride and a smirk.
"I know what you did. You never know when the tables turn." Sofia whispered in her ear as she hugged her. Bella paled and reluctantly hugged her.
"Indeed I am your daughter, mum," Sofia said and now it was her turn to smirk.
"C' mon, dad! We're getting late. Let's leave." Sofia said impatiently as she tugged at his elbow.
"First you need to get something in your stomach." Mrs. Clarke said as she pulled her inside the dining room and made her sit.
"I went to see Hazel so I had breakfast at their place." She said with a guilty smile.
"Okay, but have some juice at least." Mrs. Clarke said as she poured the juice in a glass for her.
"Okay. I am." Sofia said as she raised her hands in surrender and drank it all in one go. She wiped her mouth and stood up.
"Now let's leave, dad." She said again. Jeremy sighed and took his coat off the chair. As they went outside, Mark was already waiting with the door open. He was surprised to see Sofia dressed up like that. All of them got in and Mark drove them off to the hotel.
At the hotel, it was busy as usual in the morning. People were going in and out. The lobby was quite busy. The staff stood up in respect and nodded as they passed.
"Good morning," Each member of the staff greeted them as they made their way to their office.
"Welcome to your office, princess," Jeremy said as he opened the door for her.
"Thank you, dad," Sofia said as she hugged him. He kissed her forehead wishing her luck. Sofia looked around the room and thought about the life she's about to start. She just wanted to meet Simon but he couldn't and she was quite disappointed.
As soon as she started work, she forgot all about Simon and everything that surrounded her.
Sofia attended a few meetings with Jeremy. She got to know all about the partnerships and directors. It took a lot to be an heiress. Jeremy made Sofia do a lot of normal tasks so that she'd know each and everything she had to do. She learned how to use a copier and prepare files for urgent meetings. She even presided the introductory meeting with the board of directors in which Jeremy sat on the other end of the table as all the rest of the others.
Sofia had a snack at the hotel's restaurant while she studied financial reports. She sat at the very back of the restaurant eating her steak frites conscious of the stares she was getting from the men. She got up and sat with her back to the other diners so she couldn't see their disturbing faces. Suddenly, she felt someone tap her shoulder.
"Yes, may I help you?" She asked as she looked over her shoulder.
"Actually, you can, Ms. Taylor. " Said a golden brown haired man as he spoke. He had stormy grayish eyes and a well-built physique. He was quite handsome overall.
"Take a seat," Sofia said as she lowered the lid of her laptop and put it aside. The man sat and looked at her for some time before he heard her wave her fingers in front of his eyes to bring him out of his reverie. Sofia was trying to figure out where had she seen him.
"Are you okay? You've been staring at me for the last 75 seconds." Sofia said as she looked down at her watch calculating time.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I'm sorry for not introducing myself properly. My name is Carl Alexander." He said as he put his hand forward for a handshake.
"Mr. Alexander, I'm really busy and I'm not interested in knowing you or anyone right now," Sofia said as she rejected his hand and continued eating her food. Carl pulled his hand back and sat straighter in his chair looking at her eating her food. He was surprised to see her eat a big serving of pasta because usually women don't eat much.
"Do you know who I am?" He asked and Sofia raised an eyebrow questioning him.
" No, I don't," Sofia replied and shook her head.
"Well, that explains your behavior, Ms. Taylor." He said as he smiled at her.
"I am your hotel's linen partner. I'm from C&A linens co," he said and Sofia's eyes widened. She didn't just treat her partner badly, did she? She questioned herself.
"I didn't know. Although I think I did see you at the meeting. But I hardly remember all the names and faces since its my first day here and I'm still getting to know about things. I'm sorry for being rude to you." She said as she offered a small smile.
"Apology accepted but not until you have coffee with me someday and I can tell you more about the partnership between our companies." He said with a smile.
"Okay," Sofia said as she sighed.
"Great! I'll see you after work tomorrow here." He said as he took Sofia's hand and placed a small kiss on the back of it.
"See you soon. Bye!" he said as he said left her alone to process her thoughts.
Sofia was not sure if she liked him being so forward with her. But she was too tired to do anything so she just resumed her work and put him at the back of her mind. She couldn't afford any distractions on the first day of her career.
