Chapter 19
After showing Sofia around the administrative block, Jeremy took her on a tour of the hotel. He showed her different establishments and amenities which people residing at the hotel had access to. If it was some other girl, Jeremy would have told the manager or some other staff personnel to show her around but this was not some other ordinary girl, it was his daughter.
Sofia had never visited her father's hotel before. She was astounded by the beauty and the magnificence of the hotel. She had visited her mother's boutique several times too but mostly the dresses and everything came home to her.
Behind all these luxuries, Sofia craved the exposure to the practical world. She always wanted to live an independent life without having Mrs. Clarke or anyone at her service just like a normal adult. But these were the cons of having filthy rich parents. She couldn't do anything until she was up on her feet.
After the tour of the hotel and knowing about her duties and responsibilities, Sofia asked Jeremy if she could have a small lunch before heading home.
They grabbed a bite before heading back home. After lunch, Jeremy took Sofia to shop for some dresses to be worn at work. Sofia was feeling ecstatic because never had she thought that her mother would let her wear any other clothes other than her collections. She was tired of wearing her choices. Now was the time to show her mother that her choices also mattered.
"Hello, sir. My name is Brielle. How may I help you today?" The store manager came as soon as she saw him walking in. She was a beautiful woman who looked quite classy to Sofia. She must be just a couple of years older than her. He kept a light hand at Sofia's back to keep her walking if she got distracted somewhere.
"Hello, Brielle. This young lady here is my daughter Sofia. I want you to help her pick some work outfits and also tell her how to choose an outfit for any professional event. In short, I need you to give her a makeover," Jeremy said as he gave Sofia a smile. Sofia felt a little uneasy about the makeover thing. She didn't want them to change her completely. Just a little upgrade would be fine, she thought.
"Of course. This way sir." Brielle said as she led them to the basement of the shop where there was a beauty salon. Sofia gasped slightly. The salon was beautiful. It was painted in a soft hue. There was a separate area for men.
"I'm going to get my haircut. You beautify my daughter, Brielle. I hope you won't disappoint me." Jeremy said to Brielle as he strode off to the men's section.
"Ms. Taylor, you can sit here while I get you your stylist," Brielle said as she strode off to a stylist who was working on a mannequin.
"Ms. Taylor, here's Em. He will be your stylist." She said as she gestured towards a guy with messy light brown hair. He looked quite cute with his pencil tucked behind his ear and white rimmed spectacles.
"Em, this is Ms. Taylor. You need to make her look stunning. You know what I mean?" Brielle asked him.
" Yeah, yeah. I know what you mean Bri." He said with a lot of sass.
" Now leave. Leave me alone with my model." He said as he ushered Brielle away. Em touched a lock of Sofia's hair and she slapped his hand away.
"She's a feisty kitten. I like it!" Em said as he clapped his hands and winked at Sofia.
"Don't worry Ms. Taylor. He's gay." Brielle whispered.
"Oh," Sofia said as Brielle ushered her to a salon chair in front of a mirror with lots of lights surrounding it.
"I'll be right back in a few moments," Brielle said as she patted Sofia's shoulder lightly and left.
"Why are you looking at me like that? I don't bite." Em asked as he noticed Sofia glaring at him.
"You're not funny. I hope you know that. Get your work done quickly." Sofia said in a low menacing voice.
"Okay girl! Calm down!" He replied waving his hands in the air.
After a few seconds, Em appeared with a box. He put it in front of Sofia and removed the lid. There were a lot of wigs in it.
"We have to try these on you and finalize a suitable haircut for you." He said as he started putting different wigs on her head. A few minutes later, they had decided on a style. Em gave her hair a nice wash and dried them. Then he styled them and after the whole thing was done, Sofia was unable to recognize herself. She looked older and more beautiful.
"Do you like your haircut, Ms. Taylor?" Em asked as he stood by her side. Sofia ran her fingers through her soft hair. They were shinier now. He had styled her hair into front bangs and left her hair brown hair as they were.
"Yes, it looks good. Thank you." Sofia said with a small smile,
"Here are your....." Brielle said but paused as she brought with him a boy who pushed a rack of dresses and accessories.
"You look great Ms. Taylor, Well done Em. Thanks for not letting me down." She said to Sofia and hugged Em.
"Your dresses are here. We need you to try these so we can know which one looks the best on you." Brielle said as she took Sofia to another room. It had a couch on the side and a coffee table in the middle. On a corner was what looked like a changing room.
"You can go in there and change. Your father must be coming. He said he wants to see every outfit." Brielle said as she gave her a dress and pushed her in the changing room.
The first one was a tight pencil skirt with a grey blouse. The skirt fitted her like a second skin. It accentuated her curves. Sofia felt like the skirt was squeezing her waist. She quickly slipped on the black heels and wore her watch with it. As Sofia stepped out of the changing room, her father was sitting there looking more handsome with his new haircut.
"Brielle, no figure-hugging dresses, please. Cut the boring colors too." He said as he looked at Sofia overall and rejected her dress. Brielle nodded and gave Sofia some blouses and pantsuits. They were easy to wear and Sofia looked beautiful in them. He did allow a couple of dresses as well because she couldn't always wear a pantsuit.
Sofia had a little trouble walking in heels as she was not habitual of wearing them. Her feet were aching all over. She just wanted to go home and get rid of the heels so she could stop towering over people.
After dress selection, Em taught her how to do makeup on a daily basis without putting on too much. Sofia learned all the tips and thanked him. Jeremy paid and they headed home.
During the ride back home, Jeremy noticed that Sofia was more relaxed than she was in the morning. She looked happy. He was happy to see her happy.
As they reached home, Jeremy asked the staff to take all shopping bags to Sofia's room. Bella saw the staff taking numerous shopping bags. She was surprised to see Jeremy bringing shopping bags home since he never liked to shop. What surprised her more was her daughter's look. She looked beautiful.
"Hello Mrs. Clarke, I missed you," Sofia said as she ignored her mother's sweet smile and hugged Mrs. Clarke who complimented on her makeover.
"Hello, mother," Sofia said without any emotions. Just like Bella would talk to her when she returned home from the office.
"What's all this?" Bella asked gesturing towards her haircut and unending shopping bags.
"Oh, this. These are all my things. I went shopping with dad today. Dad, can you give her the details of our day out?" Sofia said in a bored tone. Jeremy nodded. He was impressed. His daughter was standing up for herself.
"Mrs. Clarke, can you bring me something to eat? I'm very tired and hungry." She asked her and ascended up the stairs to her room.
"Jer.." Bella started but she had to stop when she saw Jeremy gesturing her to stay quiet.
"I'm tired too, I'd like to rest. I'll talk to you after dinner." He said as he went to his room.
Bella huffed and went back into the library to resume doing her work.
