Chapter 7

Sherlock and I sat across from Lestrade, the tension in the room could probably be cut with a knife.
"Who's this?" Lestrade asked, glancing at me cautiously.
"She's my neighbour." Sherlock muttered, growing impatient that Lestrade was more curious about me, and not the case he was here to discuss.
"Alright, so you think the killer is in a shopping plaza?" Lestrade leaned back in his chair, flicking his gaze from me to Sherlock.
"Yes, I thought I'd inform you, but there's probably no point, you'll need me to find them anyways." Sherlock shrugged. To my surprise Lestrade didn't react, maybe this was normal?
"The discovered the killer was moving in closer to the centre, he started at the farthest corners of London and now he's working his way in." I informed him, feeling my chest swell with pride, this was the first time I had felt like I was more than just a humble baker.
"We'll send some officers over." Lestrade nodded, standing up.
"Don't send anyone annoying, I need someone I can work with." Sherlock stood as well, making his way towards the door, with me hurrying after him.
"Who said you were going?" Lestrade demanded, his brow furrowed in frustration.
"I did!" Sherlock flashed a cocky smile and whisked away, his coat flapping behind him. I chased him stifling a laugh.
"That was brilliant!" I smiled widely as I reached his side.
"Thank you, I know." Sherlock chuckled and strutted out the front door.
"Are you really going to hunt the killer without the Yard's permission?" I asked, looking up at him.
"No, WE are going to hunt the killer without the Yard's permission." He smirked, catching me by surprise. A taxi pulled over on the side of the road, but I was too shocked to make a move for it.
"Whoa whoa wait, we?! Who said I was going?" I yelped as Sherlock ushered me to the door.
"I did." He grinned again, before climbing into the other side. The taxi sped off towards the mall, churning my stomach even more than Sherlock's words had already.
"Sherlock I don't think you understand, I'm a baker, I don't-" Sherlock cut me off.
"You helped me figure out where the killer was going to be next, if you still think of yourself as nothing more than a baker, that's incredibly unfortunate." He didn't even turn to look at me, his gaze was fixated on the streets. I felt heat brush my cheeks, that was a compliment.. from Sherlock Holmes..  The rest of the drive was silent.
The taxi halted, and Sherlock once again ushered me out of the car, leading me towards the plaza. My knees shook like an earthquake had begun inside my body, and the closer we got, the closer I felt to fainting.
"What do I do?" I cried as he pulled me through the door.
"Don't get killed." Sherlock replied casually, I felt a whimper rise in my throat but I held it in. I followed him up the stairs to a few outlets, his eyes appeared to be scanning every single item and person in the entire shopping plaza. Then he stopped.
"Y/N.. Run and don't turn back." Sherlock whispered, his gaze was fixed on a man, the man was on the phone, chatting as if everything was normal.
"Sherlock what's wr-" I began, but a gunshot cut me off, I screamed and grabbed Sherlocks arm.
"We have to leave Sherlock!!" I cried, looking around for whoever fired the gun, the plaza had fallen into a frenzy, everyone was rushing towards the nearest exits.
"I'll be fine, you go, I'll meet you back at the flat- no, go to John's, tell him what happened.. He'll know what to do." Sherlock explained, I felt dizzy, my heart was racing so fast I could hardly see, all I could muster was a curt nod. I took off running, using all my energy to pump my legs forward towards the door, when something hit my left side. I was tackled to the ground by a large force, when I looked up a large dog hovered overtop of me, it's teeth were bared into a snarl. (Just so no one gets offended, I love dogs, I have a dog, but this is a dog that was trained to hurt people, master's fault, not the dog's) The dog let out a loud bark and bit down on my arm. I screamed, kicking at its stomach in a desperate attempt to throw the dog off. Blood dropped from my arm, and onto my face.
"Y/N!" I heard Sherlock yell, I caught a blurry glimpse of him being held back by two large men, the man who was on the phone stood in front of him. The dog threw my arm to the side and dove towards my throat, I swung my arm up quickly knocking it to the side and scrambling across the floor to the wall. The dog was up again in a moment, growling loudly. Another dog appeared from the stairs. I held back a sob and turned to start running again but I was pulled down by the two dogs, my body felt weak and sore from the biting, my arm burned relentlessly. Tears pricked at my eyes as I continued to struggle against the snapping jaws. One bit down on my shoulder, thrashing it's head back and forth, and the other had my leg, they pulled and snarled. I screamed and fought to escape but the dogs were stronger.
"Y/N!!" Sherlock's voice seemed distant in my ringing ears. Suddenly the weight of the dogs was gone, there was a yelping sound and then a scurry. I tried to open my eyes but the light hurt.
"Who... Who's there..?" I whispered, my voice was shaky.
"Don't move." John's voice surprised me, he was standing over me examining the wounds.
"Where's... sherlock..." I rasped, staring worriedly at John.
"He's okay, he escaped once I got there to distract the men.." John explained, as he lifted me off the ground and out towards an ambulance. Sherlock was standing talking to Lestrade, a whole line of police cars were surrounding the plaza.
"Jesus.. Is she alright?" Lestrade asked as John placed me in the ambulance stretcher.
"She'll live, but she needs time to recover, and she may not have the full functionality of her shoulder.." John sighed, did they not know I was conscious. I tried to open my eyes to let them know but nothing happened. I was semi unconscious.
"Why didn't she run when I told her to.." Sherlock growled, I could feel his gaze burning into me.
"She was probably trying to get you out too.." John replied, his voice was calm compared to everyone else.
"She hardly knows me!" Sherlock retorted, raising his voice.
"You saved her from her bloody awful boyfriend, I think she knows you well enough to try and save you too." John snapped, I felt a sadness creep over me, I wanted to save Sherlock, but he almost got hurt because I left instead of staying with him longer.
"Sherlock!" A woman's voice cried. It was that girlfriend of his. Jealousy swarmed my brain like a hive of angry bees, I wish I could sit up and punch her.
"Oh, hello Quinn." John's voice lightened a bit. Of course it did, this woman was bloody beautiful.
"Hello John.. oh.. what happened to her?" Her voice sounded less sincere than I liked.
"We were attacked in the mall, she tried to run but the dogs.." Sherlock began, his voice trailed off as if he suddenly got lost in thought.
"She left you behind!?" Quinn cried.
"I'm sure we can all talk about this later but right now we need to get this woman to a hospital!" John snapped, and then I was out.
