13. The Boy Who Still Has A Lot Of Good To Do

After their long and tiring road trip, everyone had gone to sleep except Asher and Hope, who were sitting in the dark common room, Hope telling Asher the truth about the fire.

"I can't believe Josie would do something like this" a shocked Asher admitted.

"Honestly, same" Hope whispered.

"And she had a crush on you?" Asher asked, looking at his best friend, who nodded her head in confirmation, "Does she still have a crush on you?".

"No" Hope said, "Or at least I don't think so".

"You don't think so?" Asher asked.

Hope looked at Asher, a look of confusion appearing on her face hearing the weird tone in his voice but before she could ask him about it, Kaleb entering the common room caught their attention, "Hey" he greeted.

"Hey" Asher and Hope greeted the vampire.

"Have either of you seen MG anywhere?" a curious Kaleb asked.

"Uh no, why?" Asher asked.

"Because I can't find him anywhere" Kaleb informed, "I just checked in with his hall monitor, but he missed curfew".

"MG missed curfew?" a slightly shocked Asher asked, that's not very MG like.

"It's a full moon today" a worried Hope reminded, "MG shouldn't be out there right now, it's not safe for vampires".

"Exactly" Kaleb said, "We got to find him".

Asher and Hope looked at each other, the two best friends realising they were getting no sleep tonight.

"So according to Alaric, MG isn't the only one missing, Landon and Rafael are missing as well" Asher informed Hope as the two walked in the dark woods, trying to find any sign of the three missing boys.

"I don't know why my locator spell didn't work" a worried Hope said.

"Yes you do" Asher stated, "If a locator spell isn't working, its either because someone is cloaking the person, or--".

"Or they're dead, I'm aware" Hope finished.

"I don't get why these three idiots will leave campus in the first place" an annoyed Asher said, "Since when are MG, Landon and Rafael this irresponsible?".

"They aren't" Hope stated, "Something must have happened".

The pair of best friends walked further into the woods, when suddenly Asher's eyes landed on someone, "Hope, look" he pointed, Hope looked in the direction Asher was pointing where she saw a muddy Rafael sitting on the ground with his back against the gate, looking extremely out of it.

"Raf? Raf!" a shocked Hope yelled, as her and Asher rushed towards the werewolf, "Hey, are you okay?" she asked, kneeling infront of him.

"MG" Rafael mumbled, not opening his eyes, "Landon".

"What happened to MG and Landon?" Asher asked Rafael, kneeling next to Hope.

Rafael finally opened his eyes and looked at Asher, "I can't remember".

"What the hell is lunar psychosis?" a confused Asher asked Emma.

After finding Rafael, Hope and Asher helped Rafael to Emma's room, hoping she would have some sort of solution to why Rafael doesn't remember anything.

"Quit talking" Rafael snapped.

"Don't tell me what to do" Asher snapped.

"Asher" Hope warned, holding Asher's wrist and stopping from talking any further, realising noise was affecting Rafael.

"Making noise" Rafael continued, Rafael suddenly lunged forward, his claws and fangs out, his eyes glowing yellow.

Asher quickly stood infront of Emma and Hope and just as Rafael was about to attack him, he let out a spell, "Tardus pulsatio".

"What did you do to him?" a confused Hope asked Asher.

"It's a spell Care Bear found for you and Jayden, she taught it to me, Alec and Mia, in case you and Jay ever needed our help" Asher informed, "Basically the spell slowed down Rafael's heart, it's too calm down and not let his werewolf side take over".

"What's happening to me?" a confused Rafael asked, once he was calm, "I keep losing time".

"As I said lunar psychosis, which means that your mind is in flux, trapped between your wolf and human states, making it harder to bridge the gap and access your memories like you normally would" Emma explained, helping Rafael sit back down and then sitting infront of him, Emma looked at Hope and Asher, "It's very rare", she turned back to Rafael, "It only happens after a premature reversion.

"So something caused your body to shift back before the full moon was over, leaving you like this" Hope realised.

"What kind of something?" a panicked Rafael asked.

"Usually trauma" Hope replied, "Something bad happened".

"We don't know that" Emma said, not wanting to jump to a conclusion without knowing the whole story.

"Really?" Asher asked Emma, "Come on Emma, do the maths, three of them left but only Rafael came back, that's doesn't seem like a good thing to me, also what's the chances of him turning into a wolf again? Because if you've forgotten then let me remind you that this whole wing is full of sleeping vampires".

"Don't worry, I'll keep him sealed in" Emma assured, "What his mind needs now is to be surrounded by all the things that are familiar to him, that connect him to his humanity, not his lycanthropy", Emma placed her hand on Rafael's chest and muttered a spell that helped calm Rafael down a bit more.

"Raf, I know you're going through something shitty, but if we're gonna find MG and your brother, then we need to know what happened" Asher said.

"Why did you leave campus?" Hope asked.

Rafael thought about for a moment when suddenly he remembered something, "Everyone was leaving, heading home for spring break".

Rafael told Hope and Asher how he and Landon were hanging out with MG, when he started talking about his family and Landon suggested they go visit them to get answers.

"Are you insane?" a suddenly angry Asher asked, everyone at school knew MG could never go home, "You took MG to his house, what the hell were you and Landon thinking?".

"We didn't think it was that big of a deal" Rafael defended, "They're just right over the state line in Maryland, we were supposed to make it back before the full moon".

"Yeah well clearly you didn't" Asher snapped.

"Asher" Emma warned, "Keep your anger in control".

Hope sighed, "Look Raf, no one is mad at you, we're just all worried about MG and Landon".

"Okay look, both of us staying here is wasting time" Asher told Hope, "You stay here and find out what happened next, I'm going to get Kaleb and go look for our missing two idiots".

Hope nodded her head, "Be careful".

Asher gave Hope a nod before leaving the room.

Asher knocked on Kaleb's door, "What's up?" Kaleb asked, opening the door.

The minute Kaleb opened the door, Asher couldn't help but let out a laugh once his eyes landed on the shark slippers he was wearing, "Seriously?".

"What?" a slightly offended Kaleb asked, "Did you find my boy?".

"No, that's why I'm here" Asher informed, "MG needs help and I need help in finding him, so wear some appropriate shoes and meet me outside".

"What's with the needles?" a confused Hope asked Emma.

"Sedatives" Emma informed.

"Sleep really isn't a priority" Hope pointed out.

"But safety is" Emma retorted, "Rafael told me why you couldn't track them, Penelope Park aided them in a cloaking spell before she left for break".

"Said it was a gift for dumping Lizzie" a guilty Rafael revealed.

"Great" Hope mumbled, before looking back at Rafael, "Then what happened?".

"Landon, no!" Rafael yelled, remembering Landon pressing the bell to MG's house.

"It's happening again, hand me the syringe" Emma told Hope.

"Wait, he's about to tell us what happened to Landon" Hope pointed out.

"And if he stays in this state any long it'll be that much harder to pull him out" Emma stated.

"Landon! Run!" Rafael yelled, realising Hope wasn't to grab the syringe, Emma stood up to grab it.

Hope quickly kneeled infront of Rafael, "Raf! Hey, it's okay, tell me who's running after Landon, please, who's chasing Landon?".

Emma quickly rushed back to Rafael and injected him with the sedative, before he fell unconscious Rafael opened his eyes and looked at Hope, "A monster" he mumbled, before falling on to Hope who quickly grabbed him before both of them could fall to the ground.

"It just doesn't make any sense, triad has the urn" Hope reminded, once her and Emma had laid an unconscious Rafael down on to the bed, "There shouldn't be anymore monsters, certainly none that made their way through Maryland".

"He's obviously confused" Emma pointed out.

"We need to wake him up" Hope stated.

"Sleep is the safest thing for him right now" Emma argued, "Once he's out of this lunar cycle, we'll be able to recalibrate his brain more easily".

"But he's the only one who knows where Landon and MG are" Hope reminded, "Plus, monster?".

"I heard, but as the closest thing this school has to a psychiatrist, my responsibility is to him" Emma stated, "You'll get the answers when I do, causing the least amount of harm to Rafael as possible".

"Damn" Kaleb commented as he and Asher walked towards MG's house, "When Ric said MG going home would be catastrophic, I expected Chernobyl, not Wisteria Lane".

"It might look like Wisteria Lane from the outside but who knows, from this inside it could be Chernobyl" Asher commented, as he pressed the bell, the moment the door opened MG's mother stepped out of the house and the smile on her face was immediately wiped when she saw Asher, she remembered him, he, Alec and Jayden had come with Alaric when MG first turned, to take him to the boarding house.

"Asher".

"Veronica, right?" Asher asked, in turn MG's mother just glared at him.

"I'm Kaleb" Kaleb said, forwarding his hand after sensing the tension between Asher and Veronica.

"I assume you're here to apologise for my son showing up yesterday" Veronica said, ignoring Kaleb's hand.

"I see the worst mother award still goes to you" Asher taunted, "And you know me darling, I don't apologise, now, your son hasn't returned to the school, he's missing, I came here to check if he contacted his father".

"Well, I can assure you that didn't happen" Veronica said.

"Veronica, who's at the door?" Mr. Greasley asked.

"Uh, just a solicitor dear, I'll be right in" Veronica lied, before turning back to Asher and Kaleb.

"So where'd MG go?" a worried Kaleb asked.

"I don't know" Veronica replied, before turning to Asher, "But you're gonna find him, we may not be able to have him here with us, but he was supposed to be safe at the school, me and Dr. Saltzman had an arrangement, and I expect him to uphold it".

"Oh cut the caring mother crap, Veronica" Asher snapped, "Save it for someone who doesn't know you, if you really were a caring a mother, you wouldn't have completely abandoned your son like that, come on Kaleb, let's go before I end up blowing someone up".

"An arrangement huh?" Kaleb asked, following after a furious Asher, "Good thing that don't sound suspicious".

"Good thing that arrangement wasn't with me, it was with Alaric" Asher retorted, before pulling his phone out of his pocket and calling Hope.

"Did you find them?" Hope asked, the moment she answered the phone.

"Nope, did you find any new information?" Asher asked.

"Raf said they got attacked by a monster" Hope revealed.

"That's not possible" Asher stated.

"Is it?" Hope asked.

"Where was this?" Asher asked, "And when was it?".

"I don't know" Hope replied, "I don't know, Emma sedated him, and he's been sleeping it off for hours, but I have an idea, it's a family recipe from my dad's side".

"A Mikaelson family recipe?" a confused Asher asked.

"No, my dad's biological family, his werewolf pack" Hope clarified, when they moved to New Orleans, Klaus was able to learn a lot about the pack he came from, "Because they could control their turns at will, they had access to both side of their minds".

"All right then, do whatever that is and then call me with the results" Asher said, "Until then I'm going to hope I can find MG before he finds his father".

"Absolutely not" Emma protested.

"This elixir has been in my family for years" Hope argued.

"You are not a medical doctor" Emma argued back, "Nor am I, the division between the two sides of Rafael's mind exists for a reason, to protect his sanity and to--".

"Emma please" Hope interrupted, "Obviously, something terrible happened, Landon and MG are out there somewhere".

"Do you think I'm not concerned about them?" Emma asked, "Of course I am".

"Then we need to do something" Hope snapped.

"Hope, I said no" Emma said firmly, "And I'm not gonna let you--", before Emma could finish her sentence, Rafael appeared behind Emma and injected her with a sedative, making her let out a shocked gasp.

"I'm sorry Emma" Rafael said, as Hope looked at him in shock, "But Hope's right", Rafael looked at Hope, "Do you what you gotta do".

"Here" Hope said, handing Rafael the vile of elixir, "Just drink it", once Rafael had drunk the elixir, Hope kneeled infront of him, "You said you saw a monster".

"I did?" a confused Rafael asked.

"Yeah" Hope confirmed.

"I don't remember that" Rafael admitted, shaking his head.

"Okay, tell me what you do remember" Hope said.

"Wait, wait, wait" a confused Hope said, as she stood up from the ground, "So, you're saying that MG's dad didn't know he was a vampire?".

"I'm saying that MG's dad thought he was dead" Rafael clarified, "We didn't want to leave MG behind, but it was getting late, and we knew that I had to get back before I turned and--".

"What?" Hope asked, confused as to why Rafael stopped mid sentence.

"We didn't make it back home in time, Hope" Rafael revealed.

"Run!" Rafael yelled, in flashback mode, remembering him and Landon in the woods, some monster surrounding them while he turned and Landon refusing to leave him behind.

"Hey, Raf, Raf" a worried Hope called out, quickly kneeling infront of the panicked werewolf, she quickly grabbed the elixir she made, "Hey, hey, here, here, here, here, here , here, drink this, drink this, drink this", Rafael grabbed the elixir from Hope's hand and took a massive sip out of it, "Hey, what did you see? What did you see?".

"I don't know" Rafael said.

"What were you running from?" Hope asked.

"I don't know" Rafael repeated, slowly coming back to his senses.

"Raf, whatever you saw is what made you like this" Hope said, "Did the monster hurt Landon?".

"I don't know" a worried Rafael whispered, wondering what happened to his brother.

"Is Landon okay, Raf?" Hope asked.

"I don't know, Hope" Rafael cried, "I don't know, I don't know".

Hope took a deep breath, "Okay, do you remember where the woods were?".

"I think so" Rafael replied, he took a moment before starting to nod his head, "Yeah, I remember".

"Okay, okay" Hope mumbled, realising they finally had a lead, "I'm gonna get Mia to siphon you out of here, we're gonna go find him, I'll inform Asher as well".

"This is the place Hope said Rafael saw Landon last" Asher informed Kaleb, as the two stepped out of the car and walked into the woods, Hope having called Asher to inform him what Rafael told her.

"She happen to mention that arrangement Dr. Saltzman made with Mrs. Greasley to when she called?" Kaleb taunted.

"Okay, stop taunting me, I'm not the one who made this deal" Asher snapped, stopping and facing Kaleb, "It was MG's mother who enrolled MG into the school without letting his father know that he was alive, according to her MG's father wouldn't be able to handle the fact that his son is now a vampire, the deal between Ric and her was to keep this whole thing a secret, and that's why I hate her so much".

"Shady" Kaleb commented, as the two started walking again, "Shadiest part being Dr. Saltzman saying yes".

"I can't believe you're actually going to make me defend Ric" Asher said, letting out a sigh, "Look, he didn't want to accept this deal, but he also didn't want to turn MG away, he thought he was doing the right thing, this comes in that little grey area of our morality".

"No, it doesn't, life is black and white" Kaleb stated.

Asher stopped walking, "Life is anything but black and white dude" he snapped, "Nothing in life is that simple, especially ours, the sooner you realise that, the better it will be for you".

 Asher turned around and started to walk again, Kaleb took a deep breath, and suddenly a familiar smell hit his senses, "Do you smell that?" he asked Asher, stopping him once again.

Asher looked at Kaleb in confusion, "What do you smell?".

Kaleb looked at Asher, "Blood" he revealed.

"Someone's hurt" Asher realised.

Kaleb nodded his head and started following the smell of blood, while Asher followed behind him, the smell led the two right towards an unconscious MG, "MG!" a shocked Kaleb yelled, as him and Asher quickly rushed over to the vampire, the two quickly helped the groaning vampire sit up, "Damn it, oh my god".

"Stay away from me, I can't control it!" a bloody MG warned.

"What happened to you?" a worried Asher asked.

"Demons all around me" MG said, "Beast horns and devil's tongues".

"What the hell is wrong with him?" a confused Kaleb asked Asher.

"He's hallucinating" Asher realised, "And the only reason a vampire will hallucinate like this is if they were bitten by a werewolf", Asher lifted the side of MG's shirt up, revealing the massive werewolf bite, "Yeap, definitely a werewolf bite".

"Rafael" a panicked Kaleb remembered, "He said he saw a monster, he is the damn monster!".

"Can we not play the blame game right now?" Asher snapped, examining the bite, "The infection is spreading to his heart, fast, if MG was bitten last night, then he has about an hour left".

"What?" a shocked Kaleb asked, "The cure, give him the damn cure you were talking about".

"The cure is Hope or Jayden's blood" Asher revealed, "Hope is on her way, let's just hope she makes it here in time".

"Just stay with us MG, all right?" a teary eyed Kaleb said, "We got you, we got you".

"Why aren't they picking up the phone?" an annoyed Kaleb asked as Asher tried but failed to get either Hope or Rafael on the phone.

"How the hell am I meant to know?!" an annoyed Asher snapped.

"Don't say that" a hallucinating MG said, shaking his head and crying, "Pop, why do you--why do you got to say that?".

"Hey, hey MG, stay with me, stay with me, okay?" Kaleb said, grabbing MG's attention, "Stay with me, man".

"I just want to go to sleep" a tired MG whispered.

"Don't you dare fall asleep MG" Asher said, kneeling back down next to MG, "Falling asleep is the last thing we need you to do right now, just hold on, Hope is on her way, you'll be fine, I promise".

"Talk to us more about your pops" Kaleb said, hoping to keep MG talking so he doesn't close his eyes, "Just talk to us".

"He was really happy to see me" MG mumbled, "He didn't know how I was there and I didn't know how to tell him", MG then proceeded to tell the two boys how his dad reacted after MG finally managed to tell him the truth, "He didn't want me anymore".

"Well, your father is a dick" Asher said, "Screw him, you don't need a family like that MG, you have us, your friends, who accept you just the way you are".

"I'll go back there" Kaleb said, "I'll compel his intolerant ass".

"Don't bother" MG cried, "I took care of it, I compelled him to forget I ever came back".

Kaleb sighed, "Know what? You're better off, man".

"He was right to be afraid of me, cause I can't control it" MG sobbed.

"But you can control it, MG" Asher said, "I've seen you control your hunger before, watch, once we go back to school--".

"I can't go back to that school, Asher" MG interrupted Asher, "Not after what I did".

"Hey, hey, you didn't do anything" Kaleb assured, "It's your sorry ass parents, okay? They're the bad guys, not you".

"You're wrong, I'm a killer" MG whispered.

"What's he talking about?" a confused Kaleb asked.

"I have no idea" an equally confused Asher said.

"Hey" Hope greeted, as her and Rafael rushed over to the trio, "Ash?".

"Oh thank god you're here" Asher said, taking a sigh of relief after seeing Hope.

"What's going on?" a worried Hope asked.

"MG has been bitten by a werewolf" Asher revealed, walking over to Hope, "He needs your blood, otherwise he's gonna die".

MG started whimpering in pain, "Hey, hey, you're all right" Kaleb soothed.

"Oh my god" a shocked Hope whispered.

"I bit you" Rafael suddenly remembered.

"What?" a shocked Hope asked Rafael.

"This is all my fault, Raf I'm so sorry" MG cried.

"Sorry?" a confused Kaleb asked, "What are you sorry for? He's the one that should be sorry!", Kaleb stood up and glared at Rafael, "He's the fool who bit you!".

"Hey, back off!" Asher yelled, shoving Kaleb back before he could attack Rafael.

"Hey, hey, what's going on?" a worried Hope asked a panicking Rafael, "What's wrong? What's going on? What?".

"I remember now" an extremely upset Rafael revealed, "The elixir, his face, being back here", Rafael glared at MG, "I remember who the monster was".

"MG killed Landon?" a shocked Asher asked once Rafael finished telling the rest of the story, how MG couldn't take his father's rejection, he turned into a ripper and ripped into Landon's neck.

"I did it, it was me" MG confirmed, "I'm the monster".

Asher looked at Rafael, "When you finished turning into a wolf, you managed to get loose and bite MG, watching Landon die was the traumatic event that caused to you to revert back into your human form before the full moon was over and that's why your memory has been so messed up".

"I don't want to remember any of this" a furious Rafael admitted, starting to walk away from the group.

"Where are you going?" a confused Asher asked.

"Away from MG before I finish the job" Rafael replied.

"Hey!" Kaleb snapped.

Rafael turned and glared at Kaleb, "Landon's body is out there, I'm gonna go find it".

"I was so mad" MG cried, once Rafael had walked away, "I wanted to hurt Landon, I didn't want his blood, I needed it, I needed all of it, cause I'm not a monster, I'm a demon, so many demons in hell".

"Okay, okay, all right, all right" Kaleb soothed, kneeling back down next to Landon, he looked at Hope, "You have to save him".

"You don't have to do anything" Asher told Hope.

"Are you insane?!" Kaleb snapped, "If Hope doesn't give him her blood, he will die".

"Could you shut up for just one second?!" Asher snapped, he then turned to an emotional Hope, he put his hands on her shoulder and forced her to face him, "I know Landon was a good friend of yours, if you decide not to heal MG, I'll understand".

A teary eyed Hope looked at Asher, "Thank you" she whispered, before she glanced at MG, "But MG is my friend too".

Asher gave Hope a small smile, he took out his pocket knife from his back pocket before handing it over to Hope, she grabbed it and after opening it, she made a cut on her hand and fed MG her blood, healing him of the poison that was spreading through him because of Rafael's bite.

After healing MG, Asher and Hope rushed to find Rafael, who they ended up finding next to Landon's body, Hope quickly rushed over and kneeled by his body, tears streaming down her face, while Asher looked away, though he wasn't the biggest fan of Landon, he couldn't deny that the few weeks he had spent with him made him realise he was just an innocent boy who was pulled into their world without having a choice of his own, he didn't deserve to die like this.

Rafael's attention went behind Asher and he saw MG and Kaleb walking towards them, immediately a furious Rafael stood up and started to stomp over to MG, "Raf, Raf" Hope called out, while Asher didn't do anything, if someone was to kill his brother, Asher would kill their entire family, so he couldn't blame Rafael for wanting to hurt MG, but Hope couldn't let Rafael hurt MG so she quickly grabbed his wrist, "Landon wouldn't want this! He wanted us to be better, give him that respect".

Rafael stared at Hope for a moment before he started nodding his head, he then hugged Hope and cried it out and for the first time, Asher didn't want to kill someone for hugging Hope, he knew right now Rafael really needed a friend.

"Uh" MG called out, gaining everyone's attention, "Am I still delusional or do you all see this?".

Everyone looked at Landon's bod and realised he was starting to smoke up, "Asher, Hope, one of you put him out" Rafael pleaded.

"Adiuuatur!" Hope yelled, but her spell had no effect on Landon, "It's not working, what's going on, Asher?".

"I could not tell you" an equally confused Asher said, "This is the first time I'm seeing something like this".

Suddenly Landon's body caught on fire, causing the whole group to take a step back in shock, once the fire was out, all was left of Landon was ash.

"Damn" Kaleb commented.

Hope tried to take a step towards Landon, but Asher put his arm out infront of her, "Hold up" he said, "I don't think whatever's happening, is over yet".

"What's not over?" a confused Hope asked.

"I think I've finally figured out what supernatural creature Landon is" Asher informed, just as the ash started to crack and a hand came out of the ground, slowly but surely, Landon immerged from the ash and stood up.

"What's going on?" an extremely confused Landon asked his friends.

"He's a freaking phoenix" a shocked Asher realised.
