06. Mombie Dearest

Alec and Jayden were in the gym, playing basketball together.

"So, Nova broke up with Asher?" Jayden asked, after Alec finished explaining to him why Asher and Nova were so depressed and why he was so worried.

"Yeap" Alec confirmed, blocking Jayden from getting the ball in his hand.

"Wow, I never thought she would be the one who would break up with Asher, I always though it would be the other way around" Jayden admitted, finally managing to steal the ball from Alec's hand and going to shoot it into his hoop, but Alec jumped up and swatted the ball towards his goal, "Nice".

"Thanks" Alec said, as the two boys rushed after the ball, Alec grabbing it seconds before Jayden could, "Also, turns out Nova isn't as oblivious as we all thought, she saw right through Asher".

"Dammit!" Jayden yelled as Alec shoot the ball through the hoop.

"Yeah you're definitely not beating me in this century" Alec teased.

Jayden grabbed the ball that rolled over to his ankles and threw it at Alec, "Shut up".

"Ow!" Alec complained, catching the ball as it hit his stomach.

"Oh please, that did not hurt" Jayden said, "Anyways, the break is the reason why Asher and Nova are depressed, I get that, but I don't get why you're so worried".

"Because all her life, Asher is the only guy Nova has ever loved, I'm worried that this thing with him is going make her lose her belief in love" Alec expressed.

"Do you know whose daughter she is?" Jayden asked, "Rebekah freaking Mikaelson's, there is no way Nova is losing belief in love because of one guy, instead I think she's going to become even more motivated to find the love of her life".

"First of all, don't compare Nova to Beks" Alec said, "Beks never felt for anyone the way she feels for Enzo".

"But when she did fall in love with people before Enzo, she thought they were all gonna be the one" Jayden pointed out, "She was wrong, and so is Nova, and like mom always says, we need to get our heart broken a few times before we find our true love, it happened to every single one of our parents".

"It didn't happen to dad" Alec reminded.

"Uh yes it did" Jayden stated, "Remember we read about her in the book uncle Kol wrote, Natalie Connor, Damon Salvatore's first love".

"I'm not talking about dad, dad, I'm talking about Kol, dad" Alec clarified.

"Okay, you really need to think of different names to call them, calling them both dad is very confusing" Jayden said.

"It's too late for that" Alec said, "And like I was saying, Kol Mikaelson loved Ariana Connor a thousand years ago, and then he loved Aria Connor, he's never loved another woman, so your thing about all our parents getting their heartbroken before they find their true love is wrong, mom was always dad's true love, even when he knew she would never love him like the way she loved my bio dad, what if Nova is like him? What if she loves Asher for the rest of her life, even when Asher realises he loves Hope?".

"Okay, first thing, my sister and Asher, is still a very bizarre concept for me" Jayden admitted, "Second thing, if Nova does decide to love Asher for the rest of her life, that's her choice, just like it was Uncle Kol's, why are you getting so worked about it?".

"I'm not getting worked up about anything" Alec snapped.

"Hiding your true feelings with anger" Jayden teased, "Like always".

"It's a Salvatore thing, Jay", Alec and Jayden looked towards the entrance and immediately their eyes went wide in both shock and excitement, "You'll get used to it".

"Dad!" an extremely excited Alec yelled, before running over to his adoptive dad Kol Mikaelson and hugging him.

Kol chuckled at Alec's excitement but nonetheless hugged him back, "Hey, buddy".

"Hey, Uncle Kol" Jayden said, hugging Kol after Alec let him go.

"Wait dad, not that I mind, but what are you doing here?" a confused Alec asked Kol, after him and Jayden broke their hug.

"You didn't think I was going to miss your birthday, did you?" Kol asked.

"But Care Bear said you guys couldn't make it" Alec reminded.

"No, she said her and the others couldn't make it, she never said anything about me" Kol said, "The only birthday I've missed of you three was your first birthday and that was only because your dad, Damon Salvatore decided he wanted to take you guys and your mother to Europe, ever since then I haven't missed a birthday and this year is no exception".

Alec laughed and hugged Kol once again, "I'm so happy you're here, I missed you".

"I missed you too" Kol admitted, hugging Alec back.

An annoyed Alaric stood in his office, on the phone with Caroline Forbes-Mikaelson, "What do you mean Kol's here?".

"You didn't actually think Kol will let you handle the triplets party did you?" Caroline asked, "He doesn't trust you, if you've forgotten them let me remind you Alaric, he currently hates you".

"And I currently hate him" Alaric retorted, "So I guess we're even".

Caroline let out a frustrated sigh, "Look Ric, he's not there for you, he's there for the triplets, this day is very special for him, let him do his thing".

"I'll let him do his thing, as long as he doesn't interfere in my work" Alaric stated.

"Don't provoke him so much that you no longer have work" Caroline warned.

"I see you're complaining as usual".

Alaric turned towards the entrance of his office and immediately let out an annoyed groan seeing Kol standing there.

"Great, you're here" Alaric mumbled.

"Yeah, I'm going to hang up now, just tell Kol to take a lot of photos and send it to our group chat" Caroline said, before hanging up the phone and leaving Kol and Alaric alone.

Kol walked over to Alaric's desk and looked at the book that was sprawled open, "I see you've still not solved our new case".

"No, I am nowhere near cracking this case" Alaric admitted, knowing it was better to indulge Kol then to be rude to him, because out of everyone, he was the most unpredictable one, god knows what he'll do if Alaric's pisses him off.

"Hmm" Kol said, he then looked at Alaric, "Thanks for telling me and Nik about Mia and Hope getting attacked by the way".

Alaric let out a frustrated sigh, "Jeremy told you?".

"Yeah, he figured the fathers of the two girls should know that they nearly died" Kol said, glaring at Alaric.

"Hope and Mia didn't want you two to worry" Alaric defended.

"Hope and Mia are teenagers" Kol reminded, "Of course their first instinct is to hide things from their parents, but you're not a teenager Alaric, you're a whole grown ass adult, when are you going to start acting like a responsible one?".

"That's not fair" Alaric snapped, "You have no idea what I've been up against".

"You're up against?" a furious Kol asked, "I think you mean to say what the kids are up against because from what I know every single monster that's crossed through that gate has been delt with by the kids, not you".

Alaric opened his mouth to argue with Kol, but before he could someone called the wildest Mikaelson's name, someone whose voice both Alaric and Kol hadn't heard in six years, someone's voice who both of them have been yearning to hear, someone who is supposed to be dead.

"Kol".

Hearing the voice that he will recognize even in his sleep, caused Kol to quickly turn and face her, and immediately tears welled in both his and Alaric's eyes seeing a person that they missed every single day of their life.

"Aria".

"Dorian!" Alaric immediately yelled, grabbing his crossbow from the table and pointing at his dead adoptive daughter, while Kol stood there frozen, too shocked to do anything.

"Are you okay?" a panicked Dorian asked, rushing into Alaric's office after hearing his yell, immediately he was shocked seeing Alaric point a crossbow at a woman whose face he couldn't see as he was standing behind her, "Whoa, whoa".

Aria put her hands up and looked at her adoptive father, "Ric, please put the crossbow down, I think I'm already on the verge of a panic attack and you really aren't helping me right now".

Dorian stepped forward and looked at Aria in shock, he had recognized her voice immediately, "Holy shit".

"Ric please don't shoot me, just listen to me first, please" Aria pleaded.

Hearing the pleading in Aria's face, immediately made something snap in Kol as he snatched the crossbow from Alaric's hand and used his strength to snap it in half.

"Kol" an annoyed Alaric yelled.

"No one is hurting her" Kol snapped.

"She is a monster" Alaric argued.

"Or she could be Aria!" Kol yelled, "And if that's the case, I'm not losing her again, so no one is hurting her till we know for sure she's not Aria".

"Did either of you see how she got here?" an extremely confused Dorian asked.

"I can answer that question" Aria said, "Someone yanked me awake, it was a very weird experience, I still feel very disorientated".

"Nothing suspicious about that" Alaric taunted.

"You think what I'm thinking?" Dorian asked Alaric.

"Kill her now before she attacks?" Alaric asked, taking a step towards Aria, or whoever was standing infront of him.

"Back off!" Kol yelled, shoving Alaric back, "We are not killing her!".

"Then what else are we supposed to do?!" Alaric snapped, "Kol, this woman isn't Aria, Aria's been dead for six years!".

"I know that!" Kol snapped back, "But why are you forgetting that we live in magical world, and recently a lot of weird things are happening, dead people coming back alive could just be one of those things".

"Okay you two, relax" Dorian said, trying to be the level headed one here, knowing after seeing and hearing Aria both Kol and Alaric's emotions were everywhere, "Why don't we interrogate her and figure out if she's the real Aria or not, if she's the real Aria, we all can go celebrate but if she's the next monster then maybe she would know more than dryad did".

Alaric looked at Aria, and after a moment of hesitation, he finally nodded his head, "Fine".

"While we're figuring this out, she stays here, away from everyone" Kol stated, he didn't want the triplets to see this person, especially if this really was a monster and not Aria, he didn't want the triplets heart to crush, like he knows his will if this person turns out to be a monster and not Aria.

"Good idea" Dorian said, agreeing with Kol's idea.

"I need Emma" Alaric suddenly said.

Emma sat on a table, sipping her coffee and hearing Mia rant.

"God, Jayden Mikaelson is the most infuriating person in this whole wide world" Mia complained, "He keeps saying that the reason I was trying to keep Landon here was because I have a crush on him, but that's just not true, I was trying to keep Landon here because of his brother, I have two brothers and the last thing I would want is get separated from them, but will Jayden Benjamin Mikaelson understand that? Of course not, because to understand that, you need a brain, something he just doesn't have", Mia finally stopped talking and looked at Emma's very amused, "How long have I been insulting Jayden?".

"It's about to be an hour" Emma laughed.

"Oh god" an embarrassed Mia said, hiding her face in her hands.

"No need to be embarrassed Mia, it's okay to admit that Jayden brings out an emotion in you that no one else really does" Emma said.

"Yeap, immense anger is what we call that emotion" Mia stated, looking at Emma.

"But that's not the only emotion he brings out, is it?" Emma asked, standing up and walking away as her phone buzzed and she realized Alaric wanted her.

Mia sat there for a moment, just taking in Emma's words and realizing she was right Jayden was the one person in this world who made Mia feel things she's never felt in her life before.

Jayden stood on the stairs and addressed all the werewolves he had recruited to help him in setting up the triplets birthday party.

"Alright people, use that werewolf strength of yours and start moving these tables out of here and into the party hall" Jayden instructed, "And move fast, no laziness will be tolerated here".

"Look at you being all alpha-ey" Mia teased, waking over to Jayden.

"This is not me being an alpha, this is just me bossing people around" Jayden admitted.

"Using that fear of the Mikaelson's to your advantage?" Mia asked, amusement shown clearly on her face.

"Absolutely" Jayden confirmed.

Mia let out a small laugh, she then looked at Jayden, who was now helping someone move a table, "So, can I ask why are you on party duty?" Mia asked, following behind Jayden.

Jayden stop walking and after placing the table back on to the ground, he turned around and faced Mia, "You're making small talk, why?".

Mia let out a sigh, "I know you think I have feelings for Landon".

"Yeah we're not doing this, Mia" Jayden immediately said, not wanting to hear Mia profess her undying love to Landon, "Not today".

Jayden turned to leave but Mia stopped him by grabbing his wrist, "Can you for one minute just listen to me?!" an annoyed Mia asked as she forced Jayden to face her, "Jayden, I don't have any romantic feelings for Landon, the only feeling I have for him is sympathy and maybe a little bit of friendship, but that's it, nothing more".

"If you don't have any romantic feelings for him, then why did you fight with me for him?" a confused Jayden asked.

"I fought for him because I felt bad for him" Mia informed, "All he wanted was a place to stay, my mom wanted this school to be for people who don't belong anywhere else, I just thought he was one of us, and I didn't want him and Rafael to be separated".

"So you have no romantic feelings for Landon what so ever?" Jayden asked, really needing clarification.

"No romantic feelings for Landon what so ever" Mia assured.

Jayden nodded his head, "Okay, great".

"So we're good?" an hopeful Mia asked.

"I didn't know we were ever bad" Jayden retorted.

Mia gave Jayden an are you kidding me look, "Yeah, you still make make me mad".

Jayden ruffled Mia's hair, "Back at you, little Salvatore".

Mia slapped Jayden's hand away from her head, "Not the hair, Jay".

Jayden laughed at Mia, he then walked over to her and put his arm around her shoulders, "Come on Salvatore, help me move this table".

"But it's my birthday" Mia complained.

"Then watch me move this table" Jayden teased.

"That I can do" Mia said, making Jayden laugh.

Alec entered his, Asher and Jayden's shared dorm room, only to see his brother still laying in the same position as he had left him in the morning.

"Surely staying in one position for this long isn't healthy" Alec told his brother.

"Go away" Asher said, grabbing his duvet and placing it over his head.

"Okay, why are you so upset?" an annoyed Alec asked, as he pulled the duvet from Asher's face, "You don't even love her".

Asher sat up on his bed and glared at Alec, "Yes I do" he snapped.

"Fine, you love Nova, but not in the romantic way" Alec clarified.

"There's different ways to love someone?" a confused Asher asked.

"Of course there is" Alec said, sitting next to his brother, "There's the romantic love, there's the siblings love, and then there's the friendship love, which is what you felt for Nova, you just confused yourself thinking it was romantic love when in reality it wasn't".

Asher let out a sigh, "I hurt her Alec".

Alec shrugged, "Yes you did" he confirmed, "But she's Nova St.John, she's much stronger than you realise, she'll get over you".

"What if you're wrong?" Asher asked, "What if what I feel for Nova isn't friendship love, but it's romantic love?".

"Trust me Ash, I'm not wrong, I know you more than you know yourself" Alec reminded.

Asher opened his mouth to say something to his brother, when suddenly the doors to their room bursted open and in came their sister.

"Happy birthday brothers!" Mia yelled, "I only have two hands so I could only carry two cupcakes, so you two get to share", Alec and Asher laughed at Mia's enthusiasm, and both the brothers scooted over to make space for their sister to sit, "Now come on you two, blow the candle out on this cupcake so we can continue mom and Care Bear's tradition alive".

"Wait, shouldn't we call dad for this?" Alec asked before his brother and sister could blow the two candles out, Asher hit the back of his brother's hand, "Ow! What was that for?!".

"This was to remind you that dad isn't here" Asher said.

Alec's eyes went wide in realisation, "Holy crap, I totally forgot to tell you two".

"What did you forget to tell us?" a suddenly concerned Mia asked.

Alec gave his siblings a sheepish look, "I forgot to tell you guys about dad showing up for our birthday".

"What?!" both Asher and Mia yelled simultaneously, immediately causing Alec to cover his ears.

"Dad's here?!" a shocked Mia asked.

"And you forgot to tell us?!" Asher asked.

"You are such an idiot, Alec!" Mia yelled, grabbing a pillow and hitting her brother with it before placing the cupcakes on her brother's side table and walking out the door.

Asher grabbed a pillow and starting hitting his brother, "Complete, utter, idiot!" he said, before standing up and following after his sister.

"It was an honest mistake!" Alec defended, as he quickly rushed after his siblings.

"I put a basic boundary spell to keep her in" Emma informed Alaric and Kol, "Are you two sure she can't do magic?".

"I tried to get her to a magic spell but nothing happened" Kol informed, the hope of this being the real Aria quickly diminishing, after all, how could Aria Connor not do magic?

"You realise I'm right here, right?" Aria asked Emma, "You could just ask me".

"She doesn't trust you" Alaric stated, "And neither do I".

Aria sighed, "Look Ric, I know you have a lot of questions but so do I, we're all in the same boat here, so it wouldn't kill you to be a little nice".

"Be careful with this one, you two" Emma warned Alaric and Kol, knowing Aria Connor was someone close to both their hearts and if this woman isn't here, both Alaric and Kol will be extremely devastated.

"Okay, let's talk" Alaric said, after Emma had walked out of his office, "Who are you? What do you want?".

"I'm Aria Salvatore, previously known as Connor" Aria introduced.

"No" Alaric said, shaking his head, he couldn't afford to get his hopes up, "Aria Salvatore died on her wedding day with her husband Damon Salvatore".

"Damon" Aria whispered, tears welling in her eyes as she thought about her soulmate, "Oh my god, Damon, he jumped in after me".

Kol observed Aria for a moment before turning to Alaric, "Only Aria will react like that when it comes to Damon".

"She isn't Aria, Kol" Alaric snapped, "Whoever this is an monster, not my daughter".

Kol let out an annoyed sigh, he then turned to Aria, "Can you tell me what's the last thing you remember?".

"I remember using my magic to make the hell fire travel through the tunnels, I remember grabbing Katherine and then jumping into that fire and I remember hearing Damon jump in after me" Aria informed, a few tears spilling down her face, while tears welled in Kol and Alaric's eyes as they remembered the worst day of their lives, Aria looked at Kol, "How long have I been dead for, Kol?".

Kol swallowed the lump in his throat, "Six years" he whispered.

Aria looked at Kol wide eyed, "The triplets" she suddenly said, "Are they okay?".

"Oh, just cut the crap" Alaric snapped, "Just drop the act, okay?".

"What do I have to do to prove to you that I'm not acting?" Aria asked Alaric, "Come on Ric, this is Mystic Falls, and this isn't the first time I've been brought back from the dead".

"Yeah, well, things have gotten a little complicated around here lately" Alaric retorted, just as the doorknobs to his office started twisting.

"Alaric, open up!" Asher yelled, banging on the door.

"We know our dad's in there, let us meet him!" Mia yelled.

"Come on dad, open up otherwise these two are going to kill me" Alec yelled.

An emotional Aria looked at Kol, "Are those my--".

Kol nodded his head, "They are" he confirmed.

"You three can meet your dad at the party, right now we're busy!" Alaric yelled, not wanting the triplets to see a monster wearing their dead mother's face.

"Why can't we meet him now?" a confused Asher asked, making Kol give Alaric a you're on your own look.

"Um, because, we're wrapping your presents" Alaric lied, "If you see the presents our surprise will be spoiled, so go away!".

"Do you think we're toddlers?" Alec asked, "That we will believe anything you sprout out of your mouth? And why the hell isn't dad saying anything?".

Alaric glared at Kol, "Why aren't you saying anything?!" he whisper yelled.

"They're going to know in seconds that I'm lying to them" Kol whispered back.

"Okay this is just ridiculous" Mia whispered, placing her hand on to the door and using her siphoning ability to siphon Emma's spell away, as soon as the door bursted open the three siblings immediately entered Alaric's office.

"Dad, why the hell--", Alec stopped talking midsentence once his eyes landed on the woman standing beside their adoptive father, a woman the triplets would recognize anywhere, a woman who the three siblings have been craving to see for a very long time, "Mom?!".

"Oh my god" a shocked Mia whispered, while Asher stayed silent and just stared at his mother in a mixture of awe and shock.

"I need you three to leave right now" Alaric demanded.

Aria looked at the three teenagers standing infront with tears in her eyes, no one had to tell her for her to know who these three are.

An emotional Mia tried taking a step towards her mother, but both her brothers immediately put their arm out, stopping their sister from stepping forward, though the two would love nothing more for this person infront of them to be their mother, they couldn't take a chance with all the monsters lurking in their school.

"Who are you?" Asher asked, his voice cracking slightly, he didn't want to get his hopes up but he really hoped this woman infront of him was his mother.

Aria looked at Asher, and let out a teary chuckle, she turned to Kol, "He's not your biological son but I see you in him", Aria then looked at Alec, "And I see Damon in you".

"Don't" Alec warned, his facial expression blank but if you looked closely you could see the tears in his eyes, "Don't say my dad's name, if you're not my mom, then you don't deserve to say his name".

"He's got the same trust issues as his dad" Kol told Aria, before looking at Mia, the most emotional triplet, "And while you see me and Damon in Asher and Alec, Mia here, is literally the carbon copy of you".

Aria looked at her daughter, and nodded her head, agreeing with Kol's words.

Kol sat infront of Aria, the ball Nova and Alec used to determine whether Landon was lying or not in his hand while the triplets stood behind him and Alaric stood to the side.

"Okay, what's your name?" Kol asked.

"Aria Salvatore" Aria answered, the ball in Kol's hand glowed blue, indicating that Aria was telling the truth.

"And what are you?" Kol asked.

"When I was alive I was a tribrid, a vampire, a witch and a banshee, but right now I seem to have no powers" Aria answered, once again the ball in Kol's hand glowed blue.

Alaric took a step forward, "Alright, repeat after me, I'm here to harm you".

Kol and the triplets looked at Alaric in annoyance while a look of understanding formed on Aria's face, she got why Alaric was so skeptical of her, if she was in his place, she would be the same way.

"I'm here to harm you" Aria repeated, the ball in Kol's hand glowing red.

"How did you meet Damon Salvatore?" Mia asked, taking a step towards her mother, she had read her mother's diary and she knew all the details about her mother and father's love story, and if this really was her mother, she would know everything as well.

A small smile formed on Aria's face as she remembered her and Damon's first meet, "We met on a road, it was dark and your father heard my voice and thought I was someone else".

"Was it love at first sight?" Mia asked.

"At the time, I didn't think it was, but looking back, it definitely was" Aria admitted, "The moment Damon and I met, my whole life changed, I changed".

"How did you meet Kol Mikaelson?" Asher asked, everyone knew that while Damon Salvatore was Aria's true love, Kol Mikaelson was her epic love.

Aria looked at Kol who was already looking at her, "We met a thousand years ago, in my pervious life, he made me drop my bucket of water and I punched him in return".

The triplets looked at the ball in Kol's hand and realised the whole time Aria was talking about Damon and Kol, the ball was glowing blue.

Alaric let out an annoyed sigh before turning to the triplets, "Don't you three have a party to get ready for?".

"We're not leaving" Alec stated.

"Alec, I'm here with her, you guys go get ready for your birthday" Kol said.

Aria looked at her kids, her eyes wide in shock, "It's your birthday today?".

Mia nodded her head, "Officially sixteen".

A teary eyed Aria looked at Kol, "Do you remember their first birthday? You and Damon had a massive fight over Damon taking them to Europe and leaving you behind to be the hero of Mystic Falls".

"I can never forget that" Kol whispered.

Aria looked back at the triplets, "And now you're sixteen, I missed so much".

"If you really are our mom, then maybe you won't have to miss anything else" Mia whispered.

"Hope breeds eternal misery Mia, stop having it" Alec said, before walking out the room.

Kol sighed before turning to Aria, "If he starts believing you're Aria and and it turns out you're not, he will be extremely heartbroken, so he's not letting himself have hope".

"I understand" Aria whispered, she turned to her two remaining kids, "I'm clearly not going anywhere as of now, you guys should go get ready for your party, Kol's here with me, I'll be okay".

Asher and Mia exchanged a look between them, they then glanced at their mom before turning to their dad, who gave them a small nod and with that encouragement, Asher and Mia walked out the office as well, both hoping in their hearts that they had gotten their mother back.

"I don't get it" a confused Alaric said, in the library with Kol, Dorian and Emma, "I mean she hasn't tried to escape, not a word about the knife".

"She knows things only the real Aria could have known" Kol added, "And didn't you guys say that these monsters that were attacking you were all forgotten monsters, how could she be one of them if everyone still remembers her?".

"Blunt force hasn't gotten them what they want, so they've moved on to psychological warfare" Emma suggested, "Tread lightly, if Aria is another monster, she can do more damage to you two than any dragon, especially you and the triplets Kol".

"It was something she said, here" Dorian turned the book he was reading towards Kol, "There's an eyewitness account of a group of World War I soldiers buried in France who came back to life and massacred a village, after, they didn't remember hurting anyone, and they all said they'd been yanked back into being, like Jo".

"So someone or something resurrected them and used them to attack a village?" Alaric asked.

"Without them even knowing it" Dorian added.

"I don't get why everyone is so suspicious of her" Mia said, sitting on the floor while Hope did her hair.

"Really?" Hope asked, "After everything that's been happening lately, how can you not be suspicious, Mia?".

Mia turned around and faced her best friend, "Hope, she looks exactly like my mom and she has her memories, how can she not be her?".

Hope sighed, "Mia, I would love nothing more for her to be Ari, but Alec is right, we have to be careful, don't get your hopes up right now because if she isn't your mother, it's going to hurt, a lot".

"It's going to hurt either way Hope" Mia retorted, "Whether I believe or not, I'm going to get hurt, so I might as well get hurt believing".

Hope nodded her head in understanding, "Just know one thing, you're not alone, okay? I'm right here, if all of this goes south, I promise not to let you fall".

Mia smiled, she got on her knees and hugged her best friend, "I know you won't".

Hope tightened her hold on her best friend, before finally letting go, "Alright, I'm going to go check on the boys, you wear your dress and for the love of god, don't be late to your own party".

Mia chuckled, "I won't" she promised.

Once Hope had left the room to check on the boys, Mia made her way to her bed where her dress laid, but as she got there, her eyes landed on a red envelope under her pillow, a confused Mia picked the envelope up and realised it had her name on it, so without thinking much of it, Mia opened the envelope and read the note that was in it, immediately a smile formed on her face when she realised who had placed this here.

While Kol and Alaric were busy figuring out this mystery, Aria was left in the office, but she didn't mind as Kol had given her an album he was planning on giving the triplets for their birthday, the album had all the special moments of the triplets from the moment they were born to now.

As Aria was going through the album, the office door opened again and Mia entered the room, immediately causing a smile to form on Aria's face.

"I have time before I have to get to the party so I was wondering if I could spend some time with you till then" a nervous Mia said.

"I would love nothing more" A smiling Aria said.

Alec and Asher stood on top of the stairs, looking down at everyone dancing at their birthday party.

"Is it just me whose no longer interested in this party?" Alec asked.

"Not just you" Asher admitted, both the brothers wanting to spend time with their mother, "By the way, where's Mia?".

"Probably being fashionably late like always" Alec said, looking at all the people in distaste, "Is it to late to ditch?".

"Let's welcome the two birthday boys!" the announcer said once his eyes landed on the two brothers.

Asher looked at Alec, "Yeap" he said, as the two brothers finally started walking down.

"Put your hands together for the birthday boys and their lucky escorts!".

Alec looked at Asher in confusion, "What escorts?".

Asher closed his eyes in frustration, "I completely forgot we were supposed to bring dates to this thing".

"Great, so now we're going to look like idiots" Alec said, as the two brothers reached the bottom of the stairs.

"No, you're not" Nova assured, walking over to the brothers.

Both the brothers looked at Nova and for a second both of them froze, "Wow" Alec whispered.

Nova smiled hearing Alec, "Good wow?".

"You look incredible" Asher said, making Nova give him a small smile.

"Uh, so we figured you two would forget about the whole date thing, so we decided to help you out" Nova said.

"We?" a confused Alec asked.

"We" Hope said, walking over to the group, "So, whose date am I tonight?".

Before any of the brothers could say anything, Nova looped her arm with Alec's, making both the brothers look at her, one in shock, the other in jealousy, but Nova ignored both of them and looked at Hope, "You're Asher's date tonight".

"Nova--".

"No time for chit chat" Nova interrupted Hope, "Everybody is looking at us, time to hit the dance floor".

Before Alec could protest and tell Nova he is not dancing, Nova dragged him towards the dance floor while Asher looked on.

"What are you up to?" a confused Alec asked Nova.

Nova faced Alec and forced him to put his hands on her waist, "I'm just making sure my favorite frenemy has a date on his birthday, is that a crime?".

Alec narrowed his eyes at Nova, he then pulled her closer to him, "Yes when you're using me to make my brother jealous".

Nova immediately shook her head, "I'm not using you Alec, I would never do that, I'm just helping Asher".

"Helping him with what?" a confused Alec asked.

Nova glanced at Asher who was now happily dancing with Hope, "Helping him realise who he really wants to be with".

Alec looked in the direction Nova was looking at and realised the only reason Nova was his date was so she could push Asher and Hope together, "Doesn't it hurt?".

Nova turned to Alec, "A lot".

"Then why do this?" a confused Alec asked.

"Because love isn't always about having that someone, it's about being happy for that someone, even when their happiness isn't with you" Nova said.

Alec sighed, he then pulled Nova closer to him and rested one of his hand on her waist while intertwining their other hands, "I really hope you find someone whose happiness lies in yours Nova".

Nova rested her cheek on Alec's shoulder, "Me too" she whispered.

Aria and Mia sat in Alaric's office, talking about all the things Aria had missed in Mia's life when Aria's eyes landed on the clock.

"Oh my god, you're going to be late to your party" Aria realised.

Mia shrugged, "It's fine, I'm sure no one will really notice anyways".

"It's your party Mia, everyone will notice" Aria said.

Mia sighed, "Trust me mom, they won't".

"What about your date?" Aria asked, "Won't he be waiting for you?".

Mia shook her head, "No date for me".

"So there's no one special in your life?" Aria asked.

Mia's mind flashed to a certain someone, "There is" she admitted, "But he doesn't know that".

"Ah, one sided attraction, been there" Aria said.

"Uncle Jeremy, right?" Mia asked.

"Jeremy told you?" a slightly shocked Aria asked, not expecting the triplets to know this.

Mia shook her head, "He would never, I read your diary, all of them".

"You have my diaries?" Aria asked.

Mia nodded her head, "I hope you don't mind".

"No absolutely not, I anyways wanted you three to have them, granted I wanted to be the one to give them to you but I'm just glad you'll know my story through my words" Aria said, giving her a daughter a small smile, who gladly smiled back, "So leave all this, tell me about this special someone, why doesn't he know what he means to you?".

"Many reasons" Mia admitted, "He's Alec and Asher's best friend, he's my best friend's brother, but the biggest reason is that I'm terrified of telling him my feelings and ruin the incredible friendship we have".

"I get that" Aria said.

"You do?" a slightly shocked Mia asked.

"I do" Aria said, "Your father and I, we started off as friends, I realised quiet quickly that I can't be just friends with him but I didn't say anything, I was too scared of ruining everything, I was ready to have him as my friend then not have him at all".

"So how did you take the next step?" Mia asked, really excited to know her parents story through her mother and not her diary.

Aria chuckled, "I kind of blurted my feelings out to him when I was saving him from a fire, turns out, I was afraid for no reason, because he felt the same way, so what I'm saying is, it's okay to be afraid, but don't let the fear hold you back, who knows maybe this special someone feels the same as you and is just waiting for you to make the first move, you'll never know until you take a risk".

"What if the risk backfires?" a scared Mia asked.

"That's life Mia" Aria said, "Sometimes we get what we want, other times we don't, but you'll never know until you try".

Mia gave her mother a grateful smile, "I'm really happy that you're here mom, not only do me, Alec and Asher get to meet you but so does dad, who I know is really lonely without you and dad".

"You know, I remember the moment I died, I remembered you three and I was terrified of how you were going to survive without me, but then I remembered Kol, and I knew I had nothing to fear, I knew he would make sure you three turn out to be the best versions of yourself, and I was right" a teary eyed Aria admitted, she then took a deep breath and wiped her eyes, "Alright, enough emotional talks, I don't know if anyone else will notice or not but I know for a fact your brothers will notice your absence, so go to the party before they start losing their minds".

Mia chuckled, "That is true" she said, before looking at her mother, "You know, there is something that will make them and me happy, if you attend this party as well".

A smile formed on Aria's face, "I would love to".

Nova and Hope stood together on the dance floor, watching the brothers dance the night way.

"They look happy!" Hope yelled to Nova over the music.

Nova looked at Alec and smiled seeing the smile on his face, "It suits them!".

Jayden, who stood on the balcony smiled seeing his best friends enjoying their special night, but suddenly a frowned appeared on his face when he realised the birthday girl was missing.

Jayden turned to the person next to her, "Hey, have you seen Mia?" he asked, but the person shook their head in no, making worry rise in Jayden's heart.

Aria and Mia walked down a path and towards where the party was being held, "So basically Asher is actually in love with Hope, but he hasn't realised that, but everyone else, including his girlfriend Nova has, which is why she broke up with him".

"Oh, poor Nova, you know when they were kids, I genuinely thought Asher and Nova would end up together" Aria admitted, "Your Uncle Enzo was not happy about that though".

"Yeah, he wasn't happy when Asher and Nova announced they were together, but he had no option but to accept it" Mia said, making Aria laugh.

As Aria and Mia were walking, Aria suddenly stopped walked as a wave of dizziness hit her and and she fell to the ground unconscious.

"Mom!" an extremely worried Mia yelled, rushing over to her mom and kneeling by her unconscious body, "Mom, wake up, please!", Mia started looking around, "Is anybody here?!", when she got no reply, a panicked Mia turned back to her mother, "I'm going to get you help mom, I won't let anything happen to you".

Mia started to rush away, not realising that Aria had opened her eyes, her eyes that were now pure white.

Mia stopped running when she felt a presence behind, turning around, she was shocked seeing her mother look like a zombie, before the youngest Salvatore could react, her mother had rushed her and everything went black.

"She could be anywhere, Kol" a panicked Alaric said into the phone.

"You need to relax, it's Aria, she's not going to hurt anyone" Kol said, in the woods looking for the woman he's always loved.

"That is not Aria" Alaric snapped.

"Yeah, not having this conversation with you again" an annoyed Kol said, "I'm going to the dance hall to look for her, you look everywhere else".

As soon as Kol hanged up on the headmaster, a familiar voice called out to her, "Kol?!".

Kol turned around and saw Aria running to him, "Oh thank god" a relieved Kol whispered, before rushing to the Connor witch, "Where were you?".

"Kol, something's not right" a panicked Aria informed.

"What happened?" a concerned Kol asked.

"Mia asked me to attend the triplets birthday party and I agreed because I really wanted to see my children's party, it was stupid I know, I should have just stayed locked in Ric's office, but my stupid emotions got the best of me" a panicked Aria ranted.

"Okay Ri, stop panicking" Kol said, putting his hands on Aria's shoulders, "Take a deep breath and tell me exactly what happened".

"That's the problem Kol, I don't know what happened, one minute I was with Mia, and the next minute I woke up to my hands covered in dirt and Mia no where to be found" Aria explained, Kol looked down at Aria's hands and realised she was right, they were covered in dirt, "I lost time Kol and I have no idea what I did in that time but I think it was something really bad", a panicked Aria suddenly fell unconscious again but this time Kol caught her before she could hit the ground, when Aria opened her eyes, her eyes were once again white, "There's a knife in your possession that will buy you the answer", Kol looked at Aria in shock, the possessed Aria stood up and shoved Kol away from her, "No need to rush, I'm sure your daughter has an hour before she runs out of air".

Kol glared at the woman infront of her, finally realising this isn't Aria, "Where the hell is my daughter?!".

"Uncle Kol" a confused Jayden called out, "What the bloody hell is going on?", Jayden looked at the woman his uncle was talking to and immediately his eyes went wide, "Holy shit, I thought Alec and Asher were hallucinating when they said Ari was here".

"Forget all that Jayden, I need your help, it's Mia" Kol revealed.

Immediately a serious expression formed on Jayden's face, "Where is she?".

"That's the problem, I don't know" Kol revealed, worrying Jayden even more.

After spending most of the night dancing, Asher and Hope decided to take a break from the party and walk outside.

"I can't believe Mia ditched her own birthday party" Hope said.

Asher chuckled, "I can't believe you actually thought she would show up to the party after knowing that somehow, someway, our mom is alive again".

Hope looked at the oldest Salvatore, "Speaking of which, don't you want to spend some time with her?".

Asher sighed, "More than anything in this world".

"Then why don't you?" a confused Hope asked.

"Because what if she isn't my mother?" Asher asked, "What if she really is another monster that knife spawned, I don't want the last memory of my mom to be of her as a monster, I like the ones I have, I don't want them to be tainted".

"If that really isn't Ari and is a monster, then your mother's memory won't get tainted Ash, the last memory you have of her, will always be the same one, because a monster can't take away the most beautiful memory you have" Hope said.

"You think so?" a slightly scared Asher asked.

"I know so" Hope replied.

Asher smiled at Hope, but before he could say anything to her, his eyes landed on Jayden walking towards the cemetery with a shovel and torch in his hand.

"Where the hell are you going?" a confused Asher asked his best friend.

"No time to explain, have a life to save" Jayden said, continuing his walk.

"Whose life?" a confused Hope asked.

"Mia's" Jayden informed, immediately worrying Asher and Hope.

"What happened to Mia?" a concerned Hope asked.

Jayden sighed and stopped walking, he then turned to his sister and best friend, "Ash, turns out, your mother is your mother, but she is being possessed by something".

"What is she being possessed by?" a worried Asher asked, ready to do anything to get rid of that thing if it meant having his mother back.

"Don't know, but while Ari was possessed she ended up burying Mia alive in the cemetery" Jayden revealed.

Hope grabbed the shovel that was nearby, "Then what the hell are we waiting for?" she asked, "Let's go!".

"What do you mean Dorian took the knife?" an angry Kol asked Alaric over the phone.

"As soon as he knew that the knife monster targeted Mia, he knew you'd do anything to save her, even if it meant handing the knife over" Alaric replied, "So Dorian took the knife and left the school".

"You and Dorian better pray to however you pray to that nothing happens to Mia because I swear to god, if she gets hurt in anyway, I'm going rip both of you apart!" Kol threatened.

"We'll save Mia without giving up the knife, Kol" Alaric assured.

"For your sake, you better hope so" a furious Kol said, before hanging up on Alaric.

Jayden, Hope and Asher walked into the cemetery together.

"Jay, use those werewolf senses of yours and listen for her breathing" Asher instructed, trying to keep a cool head while searching for his sister and trying not to show how panicked and scared he was currently feeling.

Jayden nodded his head and focused his hearing, "Wait" he suddenly said, immediately causing the other three to stop walking, "I hear something, Hope, pass the shovel", Hope passed the shovel in her hand over to her brother, and he immediately started digging, Asher quickly joining him.

As the two boys were digging, a hand suddenly shot from the ground and grabbed on to Jayden's leg, causing the Mikaelson boy to fall to the ground, quickly Asher hit the arm of the zombie that had crawled out of the grave, once he had released Jayden, Hope grabbed the shovel Jayden dropped and slammed it in the zombie's head, managing to kill him on the spot.

"How did you know that was going to kill it?" an impressed Asher asked Hope.

Hope shrugged, "I listen to MG's rants sometimes".

"Uh guys" a worried Jayden called out, as he stood up and started looking around the graveyard, "Looks like we have more company".

Hope and Asher started looking around and their eyes went wide seeing multiple zombies crawling out of the ground.

"Zombies" Hope said, as the trio stood back to back, "Plural".

Nova and Alec, being completely unaware of everything that was going on, were still at the birthday party thrown for the triplets, slowly dancing on the dance floor.

As Alec span Nova around, the St.John girl suddenly started chuckling, "What's with the chuckle?" a confused Alec asked, his chest to Nova's back.

Nova shook her head slightly, "It's nothing, it's just in the many years I've known you, I never thought I'd ever slow dance with you".

Alec span Nova around again and this time pulled her towards him, "And why's that?".

"Because you hate me" Nova reminded.

Alec sighed, "I don't hate you Nova".

"Really?" Nova asked, "Could've fooled everyone".

"Look, I can't explain to you why I act the way I act, most of the times even I don't know why I'm such a dick to you, but know it's not because I hate you" Alec assured.

"Okay" Nova said, a small smile forming on her face, "I believe you".

Alec smiled at Nova, and as the two were swaying to the music, the middle Salvatore started looking around the dance floor, "Hey, have you seen my siblings?".

Nova started looking around, "Uh, currently, no".

"And Hope and Jayden are also not here" Alec suddenly realised.

"Where did everyone go?" a confused Nova asked.

"I don't know but I suddenly have a very bad feeling" Alec admitted, immediately making Nova look at him in concern.

"God, they just keep coming!" Jayden yelled, killing two more zombies.

"Asher and I can handle the rest, you go find Mia!" Hope told her brother.

"Don't have to tell me twice" Jayden said, running away from the duo to find Mia before anything happened to her.

"How do you want to do this?" Hope asked Asher, as the two stood back to back, "Magic?".

"I say we just go for their heads" Asher said, using the axe in his hand to kill a zombie.

"Works for me" Hope said, attacking the zombie infront of her.

As Jayden was rushing around the cemetery, he heard noise coming from the ground, "Mia?!" he yelled, proceeding to dig open the grave but to his annoyance, it wasn't Mia, it was just another zombie that Jayden very easily killed.

"We're running out of time, Jayden!" Asher yelled, as him and Hope caught up with the Mikaelson boy.

"Asher, watch out!" Hope yelled, Asher turned around and was immediately attacked by a zombie.

"Hope, axe!" Asher yelled, Hope immediately threw the axe towards the oldest Salvatore, who easily caught it and went on to behead the zombie infront of him, he then turned around and glared at his best friend, "Are you gonna find her or not?!".

"Don't you think I'm trying?!" Jayden snapped, "But there's too much noise!".

"Just focus Jay" Hope said, "You can do it".

Jayden took a deep breath, he then closed his eyes and focused his hearing, and suddenly he could hear Mia's muffled cries, he opened his eyes and looked towards his sister and best friend, "Found her".

Jayden quickly rushed in the direction he heard Mia's cries, Hope and Asher quickly following, as soon as Jayden reached the placed, he immediately started digging, Hope and Asher following soon after, as the trio was digging, suddenly Mia's hand shot out out of the ground and Jayden quickly grabbed it and pulled Mia out.

As soon as Mia was out she started coughing and gasping for air, "It's okay" Hope said, immediately going over and rubbing her best friend's back, "You're fine Mia, you're okay".

Asher quickly lunged forward and hugged his sister, "I was so scared" he whispered, a sobbing Mia simply hugged her brother back, she was in too much of a shock to say anything right now.

Jayden took a sigh of relief and sat back on the group, tears welling in his eyes as he looked at Mia, so glad they weren't late.

A guilty and extremely emotional Aria sat in Alaric's office, her head in her hands, not believing what she just did.

"I buried her alive" Aria whispered, she looked up at Kol with tears in her eyes, "I could have killed my own daughter Kol".

"Hey" Kol whispered, kneeling infront of Aria and grabbing her hand in his, "Mia's fine, and don't you dare blame this on yourself, you would never purposely hurt any of your children".

"But I did" Aria cried, "Kol, I put Mia in danger".

"No, you didn't" Kol stated, "There's something controlling you Aria, it was that thing that put Mia in danger, not you".

"Which means as long as this thing is inside me, my children are going to keep being in danger" Aria realised, "We have to get it out of me, what if Mia siphon's it's magic?".

"This thing's magic is the thing that's keeping you alive, Aria" Kol reminded.

"I know" Aria whispered, "But Kol, I'm not supposed to be alive".

"No" Kol said, immediately shaking his head and standing up, "No, I'm not losing you again".

"Kol, please" Aria pleaded, standing up and forcing the wildest Mikaelson to face her, "I'm not supposed to be here".

"Yes you are!" Kol snapped, "You're supposed to be here, with your children, with me, with Caroline and Nik, and everyone else!".

"Do you really think I can stay in this world without Damon?" Aria asked, tears slipping down her face.

"And what about the triplets, can't you stay for them?" Kol asked.

"If I stay, I'll be putting them in a lot of danger, and you know that's the last thing I'd ever do, everything I've ever done since the moment I knew about them was to keep them safe, and me staying here doesn't keep them safe, Kol" Aria cried.

"Please, Ri" Kol cried, attaching his forehead to Aria's.

"Please, Kol" Aria sobbed, "Say goodbye to me, one last time".

Kol didn't say anything just pulled Aria into a tight hug, wanting to remember this moment for the rest of eternity.

"Be happy Kol Mikaelson" Aria cried, "You deserve the world".

"You were my happiness Ri" Kol admitted, "And now the only reason I'm living is for the triplets".

Suddenly Aria remembered something, causing her to break the hug and look at Kol, "Have you told Asher and Alec about what will happen when they turn twenty two?".

Kol shook his head, "No, I haven't, I don't want to tell them till I've exhausted all the options, that's why everyone else couldn't make it today, they're all scattered around the world trying to find something that will help them".

"Can you tell everyone that I said thank you for being there for the triplets" Aria said, "And tell Caroline, that I miss her, okay?".

"She misses you, so so much" Kol said, "You were the only thing keeping her going after Liz's death, and if it wasn't for Hope and Jayden, I'm not sure Caroline would have still been standing after your death".

"She's much stronger than that" Aria assured, "She's Caroline Forbes-Mikaelson, she'll always be standing, no matter what the world throws at her, just like you".

Kol once again hugged Aria and the two former lovers cried in the hug, knowing this goodbye was forever.

Jayden stood outside the shower, patiently waiting for Mia to come out.

"Hey" Mia greeted, stepping out in her robe, small smile forming on her face seeing Jayden waiting for her.

"Hey" Jayden greeted, "You good?".

Mia nodded her head, "Perfectly fine".

Mia tried to walk past Jayden, but the Mikaelson boy, quickly grabbed her wrist and forced her to face him, and before Mia could react, Jayden had kissed her.

After a moment, the two broke the kiss, "What was that for?" a shocked Mia asked.

"I thought I was going to lose you tonight" Jayden whispered, "And the only thing I could think of was that I never got to tell you how much you mean to me".

Mia looked at Jayden for a moment, the next time moment, she put her hand behind his neck and pulled him down for another kiss, once the two had broken apart, Mia said, "You mean a lot to me".

Before Jayden could say anything, a blushing Mia quickly turned around and rushed away, leaving behind a smiling Jayden.

Asher entered the common room and saw Hope sitting infront of the fireplace.

"Hey" Asher greeted.

Hope looked at Asher and gave him a small smile, "Hey".

"Did you have fun tonight?" Asher teased, taking a seat next to Hope.

Hope chuckled, "Minus the Mia getting buried part, tonight was actually very fun, what about you, how was your birthday?".

"Minus the Mia getting buried part, my birthday wasn't as bad as I thought it would be" Asher admitted.

Hope smiled at the oldest Salvatore, "Well, I'm glad".

Asher looked at Hope, he then stood up and forwarded his hand towards her, "We never got to have our slow dance".

Hope smiled and gladly put her hand in Asher's and let him pull her up and immediately the two started swaying, with one of their hands intertwined, while Asher's other hand was on Hope's waist and Hope's other hand was on Asher's shoulder.

"By the way, you should shower, you look like you had a fight with dirt" Asher teased.

Hope laughed, "Maybe that's exactly what happened".

"Dirt over zombies, really?" Asher asked.

"Yeap" Hope replied, making Asher laugh.

"Ash".

Asher and Hope turned around and saw Alec standing there, a solemn look on his face.

"Sorry for interrupting this moment, but we need you" Alec told Asher.

"What's wrong?" a concerned Asher asked, recognising the look on his brother's face.

"Um, it's mom" Alec informed, suddenly feeling very emotional and putting Asher on high alert.

Asher, Alec and Mia sat infront of Aria and Kol in Asher and Alec's room.

"Let me get this straight, you want Mia to siphon the magic out of mom until she's gone?" a furious Asher asked, glaring at his father, wondering how he could even think of this idea.

"This wasn't Kol's idea, so don't get mad at him" Aria clarified, "This was my idea".

"You seriously want us to lose you again?" ab equally furious Alec asked.

"Alec, I'm already dead" Aria reminded, "I was a witch, and we witches believe in the natural order of things, and right now the natural order is that I'm dead, I shouldn't be here, I can never put into words how much today meant to me, to be able to see all of you, it meant everything to me but we all know that I wasn't supposed to have today with you, I need you three to make this right, you three should know that your dad and I loved you with everything we had and we will never regret dying for you, don't ever think you're alone, because you're not, me and Damon might not be here physically, but we still live on through you", Aria looked at an emotional Kol, she grabbed his hand in her, "And you might have lost us, but you still have an amazing father figure in your life, who I know will never let you guys down".

"I wanted more time with you" Asher whispered, as tears slid down his face.

"I wanted more time with you as well" Aria sobbed, "But unfortunately this is all the time we get, just know that your mother is extremely proud of the way you three turned out, just remember one thing, me and your Care Bear, we were strong apart, but we were a force to be reckoned with when we were together, so always stay together, never let anyone come between this bond, never give up a fight and the most important thing, find the love of your life and never let them go", Aria looked at Kol and after giving his hand one last squeeze, she stood up and forwarded her hand towards Mia.

"I can't do this mom" Mia cried, shaking her head, "I can't lose you again".

"But you're not losing me Mia" Aria assured, "As long as you three live, Damon and Aria will live, our legacy continues with you, please do this, don't let your mother do the one thing she never wanted to do, don't let me hurt my children", Mia started sobbing more before finally placing both her hands in Aria's and standing up, Aria looked at Mia, and then at her sons, "I love you three very much, and so did your father, never forget that".

"We won't" Alec whispered, "We will never forget".

Both Alec and Asher stood up from their seats and both of them side hugged their mother, "We love you mom" Asher whispered.

"I know" Aria whispered, before glancing at Kol, "Take care of yourself Mikaelson".

Kol didn't say anything, just looked away with tears streaming down his face, Aria then looked at Mia and gave her a small nod, a sobbing Mia nodded her head and suddenly her hands started glowing orange, and she started siphoning the magic out of her mother and after a while, Aria Connor was once again gone.

Kol immediately stood up and pulled the triplets into a group hug, the group of four crying after once again losing someone who meant the absolute world to them.
