Chapter 5

"But, you can't actually expect me to give up the job I have now to work... to work for him!" I complained, slamming my hands on the table in front of me. The Archangels (High Angels), looked at me from the opposite side of the table. The room we were in was like an office with a really long table that belonged in a meeting room.

"Do not raise your voice. It has been decided. Shall you continue to further wish for a new position, you may write a report and those of us will see if you're worthy enough to go back to your original position. If you do not see yourself fit to your new position then we will choose a new one," one of them said. There were three Archangels, all with slick white hair, and a formal, white outfit. Four of the chairs beside them were empty, meaning the other four Archangels were absent, gone. However, I knew better than to push my luck with them. Biting my tongue, I nodded.

"Yes. I'll do so. Thank you for that wonderful information," I said, holding back the temptation to roll my eyes.

"Then we'll wait for it. You may leave now. Just remember that he personally picked you to work with him, so it would be hard to override his decision. You are to remain in the Higher Plane until your position is picked or something else has come up," another Archangel said. I nodded and left the room, taking the elevator down to the main lobby. I kept my wings close to my body in the packed elevator, quickly making my way out of it, to the exit of the building. I pulled out my phone, ready to make a call to Joshua, when I bit my lip, remembering yesterday's events.

I had no time to react, when his soft lips met mine.

I blushed a deep red from it, but as quickly as it happened, he pulled away. It was nothing more than a peck on the lips, leaving me slightly disappointed. My mouth was open ever so slightly. Unable to speak, I sat there numbly, not able to find the voice to talk, say something to him. Joshua smirked and stood up from the ledge.

"Satisfied, dear~ Don't forget to call me tomorrow." Joshua turned on his heel, disappearing from the roof of 104. I placed a finger to my lips, missing the warmth of his lips on mine.

What was that about?

Why did he kiss me?

Was he trying to get a reaction out of me?

Was he being sincere or was this all a joke to him? Is he thinking that that would satisfy me to shut up about that? Whatever the reason was, I clearly wasn't ever going to find out the answer. Joshua would never give away any kind of information like that anyway.

I stared at the spot where he once was. Part of me was wishing that he was still here, while another part of me is glad that he was gone.

"What the hell just happened?"

I wouldn't even consider that a real kiss, not that anyone's ever kissed me before. Lightly tapping the buttons on my phone, I came across Joshua's contact. Selecting his number, I held the phone up to my ear, hearing the familiar ringing before a familiar voice could be heard.

"Hello~" Joshua's voice could be heard, though it was a bit sketchy since I was calling from the Higher Plane. I had to use a special connection to call him anyway. My heart skipped a beat just hearing his voice.

"Hey, I just got done with the meeting. After I gave them my report, they informed me that I'm no longer going to be an Onlooker, but instead, will be working underneath Nikolai," I said, loathing that name already. "One more thing is that they said I can't go to the RG or UG anymore. I have to stay up here. Mr. Hanekoma could probably get you information if you're desperate." Joshua was silent for a minute before responding with a simple humming sound.

"Wouldn't be much of a challenge to take care of him."

"That's not a smart idea. If you were to erase him, then the Archangels would erase you, unless he had actually done something serious, or something life threatening to another angel," I said. We spoke briefly after that, before I hung up. Sighing, I turned in the direction of my house. The Higher Plane, looked exactly like the RG (with normal neighborhoods, etc.), the only difference being that everything was mainly white, with the exception of some people's appearances, some decorations, and other things. I shoved my hands in my pockets, sighing at the fact that I couldn't go to the RG. Upon reaching my house, a familiar figure was standing in front of it, leaning against the door frame. What was he doing here? He isn't allowed to after being exiled.

"Hey kiddo. How'd it go?" Mr. Hanekoma asked, ruffling my hair. His own angelic wings were folded behind him. I sighed, explaining everything that I told Joshua. Mr. Hanekoma frowned and crossed his arms.

"Well, that sucks. I don't think they'd listen to me if I wanted you to work under me-" I cut him off with an excited shout.

"Really?! Could you really see if I could work for you? Anything is better than working with him. But, don't you have the Reaper's Game to worry about? With you being the Producer and all, I thought you'd be too busy to even come here. Especially since the Archangels are trying to find any excuse to permanently get rid of you. Didn't they say you couldn't come here as a fallen angel since that means you're exiled? Actually, is there even a game to worry about this week?"

"Nope, no game this week. That's why I'm able to come up here for a minute. Can't stay for too long, you know. They've allowed me a short time though to see you, just a few minutes though, so I can't come up here again. There's a game next week to prepare for. The current Game Master has gone on for two weeks without being erased yet, so he's staying as the Game Master, until someone can defeat him. And to answer your first question, I could use a hand around the shop, maybe have you get some more beans."

"I forgot that you opened up WildKat because you love beans..."

"And I named it that since it's pretty hip," Mr. Hanekoma said, walking forward to place a hand on my shoulder. "Well, I've gotta go. Been here too long. Josh's probably waitin' for me. See you later." He pat me on the shoulder. I nodded, saying goodbye, as he disappeared down the street. My neighbor, Solaris, was waving at me enthusiastically, running at me from her doorway.

"Hey! (Y/n)! I saw that guy who you were talking to! He your boyfriend or something, because he seemed a little old for you," she said teasingly. She walked up to me and I motioned for her to come inside my house with me.

"In your dreams! And no, he's not my boyfriend you weirdo. He's like my fatherly figure. I hand out with him down on the RG," I explained, walking into the kitchen to get some drinks and a mini snack. Solaris had made herself comfortable on the couch which was never used, seeing how I was hardly up here in the Higher Plane. It's white color was kind of dull and I held out a cup of (f/d) and (f/s) to her. She took them saying thanks and sipped on her drink.

"So, I heard about your job. You know, since I'm with the job management. That Nikolai guy came in, with a letter from the Archangels about someone he wanted to work for him. Of course, I wasn't allowed to refuse his offer, seeing how he's technically one of my higher ups, but as soon as I saw your name on the paper I knew something had to be up. I know you love the RG too," Solaris said. I groaned, remembering my new job. I plopped down onto the couch next to her and stared into the cup that I was holding, watching the slow sway of my reflection in the liquid.

"Don't even remind me," I grumbled. "I can't work for him though." I set the drink and snack I was holding onto the glass coffee table in front of me and squeezed my hands in my lap. "You remember my parents... right?" Solaris nodded, trying to piece together what I was getting at. "Well," I continued, "They were killed by him, Nikolai." I was trying not to cry in front of her but she wrapped an arm around my shoulders.

"I'm sorry. I should've done something when that order came in. I didn't know it was that serious," Solaris said in an awkwardly fashion. I sighed, leaning back on the couch.

"No, it's fine, you didn't know, but the thing is, Nikolai wants to, ahem, marry me, and other things. The guy who was just here and one other person are the only ones who know about it. Everyone else who should know has just seemed to bat an eye and turn their head. Nikolai even claims to become the next Composer," I said.

"Ouch. That sucks. Even if he is kinda hot, he has a horrible attitude," Solaris commented, mindlessly eating her snack.

"Solaris!"

"Hehe, sorry, so, do you have any guys in mind though? You already know about my crush Flynn." I looked to the side, debating if I should tell her or not. I mean, she's my best friend, but he's the Composer of Shibuya.

"Well, there is one person."

"Ooooo~ A man for you finally. What's he look like? Brown hair? Orange? Blond? Pink? Oh, how about his attitude? You go for the jocks, the geek, or what?" Solaris asked, genuinely wanting to know about him.

"Uh, well, he has ash-blond hair and violet eyes-"

"Violet?! A boy has violet eyes? Do you have a picture you could show me?" Solaris asked, cutting me off completely. I pulled out my phone and showed her a recent picture of him I had taken and she tore the phone away from my hands. I gasped, "H-Hey!"

"He's not bad looking, but he's no Flynn. What's his name, 'cause he seems kinda familiar?" Whoops, I nearly forgot that the Higher Plane had a record of all Composers there have ever been.

"Uh, he like's to be called Joshua. But his name's Yoshiya," I mumbled, hoping she didn't catch that.

"Wait a minute wait a minute wait a minute? Kiryu?! Yoshiya Kiryu?! That's the Composer of Shibuya! Are you insane or what? Is he the reason why you've been abandoning me for long periods at a time?" Solaris said, clearly bewildered at the fact I knew him.

"Yeah... He is. And I never abandoned you, I really was stationed there for my previous job-" my sentence was cut off by her phone ringing loudly. She put up a finger and answered the phone.

She spoke for a couple minutes, before standing up abruptly, nearly knocking over her drink.

"Sorry (Y/n), but I have to go. Urgent summons from my job. They need me. Talk to you later though and you better call me tonight!" Solaris shouted, leaving out of my front door.

"Alright, I'll do that." After she left, I was greeted with silence and the ticking of a clock that was hung up on the wall. I ran my fingers over the cool metal of the necklace hanging around my neck. Ever since Joshua had gotten it for me, I hadn't taken it off. It still had its radiant shine in the sun as it gave off a very faint (f/c) glow. A smile came to my face as I thought about the say he got it for me.

As I turned to clean up the drinks and forgotten snacks, a chilly voice whispered into my ear.

"About time that girl left. I thought she was never going to leave. Good thing I got her out of the way though." My eyes widened as I heard his familiar voice, but that was the last thing I heard, before something hit the back of my neck, knocking me unconscious immediately.
