Chapter 19

"Hehe~ I have some good news and I've got bad news, which do you want to hear first?"

I was propped up on my elbow as I looked at the boy whose violet eyes shown what could've been mistaken for a sadistic look. I was still wearing the jacket but just put on gloves (which I should've done earlier), to block the sigil from the naked eye completely. Joshua was next to me at one of the stools Mr. Hanekoma had set out in front of the counter. Of course, this seat happened to be in front of the glass display of all the treats Mr. Hanekoma had made and set out, which was just teasing me.

"Oh? Do tell. I would give you my input but I have a feeling you're just going to tell us however you want anyway," I said, yawning aloud as I was ready to close my eyes, and disappear into the land of dreams. I hadn't had much sleep lately after the encounter with all the Reapers I had come into contact with, and worrying about what Joshua was going to do to poor Neku, who had no idea what he was getting into.

"Oh, don't be such a drama queen~" Joshua said, nudging me in the shoulder. Mr. Hanekoma looked at Joshua expectantly, waiting to receive the news, whether Joshua chose to tell us or not.

"Well boss?" Mr. Hanekoma asked, setting a ceramic mug of steaming coffee in front of me. I nodded in thanks and lifted the cup up to my mouth as I took a sip. He then took out a mug from somewhere behind the counter and began to dry it off with a rag. Where did he even get that? Does he just have cups and mugs around his cafe when he gets bored, or does he set them on the floor and play golf as he tries to shoot coffee beans into them, instead of a normal golf ball? Actually, he would never do that as to not injure or spoil his 'precious beans'.

"Well, I suppose I'll tell since you two just want to hear," Joshua sighed. My eye twitched out of slight annoyance. "Well, for one, I have a permanent Conductor now, who has promised to help me find the rouge Reaper." Whatever I was feeling before vanished instantly as my eyes widened in shock as I almost gagged on the coffee I had in my mouth. Calming my nerves, I swallowed the warm drink and looked at Joshua, who was sitting next to me, nonchalantly as he played on his outdated flip phone.

"How much imprinting did that take?" I asked. Joshua huffed as he put his phone away and looked at me.

"Thanks for the confidence in me," Joshua chuckled, flicking a piece of stray hair out of his face. "Neku does happen to be my dear partner after all. Besides, he wouldn't let this opportunity go to waste to try and get more information. I just happen to have a few... tricks, up my sleeve. He agreed, nonetheless, and that's what matters."

"I'm kind of scared for Neku. Don't do anything too reckless, though, alright? Although, I suppose the number of rules you haven't broken already, is limited down to a small amount," I mused, looking at my reflection in the coffee that was swirling ever so slightly in the cup.

"Ouch~ I was hoping for a little more enthusiasm. I'm debating on throwing a party for Neku," Joshua said, placing his hand under his chin in thought.

"Neku would probably hate that, and you know it," I pointed out. Joshua slung his arm around my shoulders, pulling my body closer to his.

"All the more reason to do it dear~ How's the sigil?"

"Did you ask a question straight forward? Did I hear you right?" I teased. Joshua rolled his eyes and Mr. Hanekoma had a ghost of a smile, as it seemed he was trying to hide his true feelings and thoughts on the matter at hand.

"To be frank with you Josh, I wasn't expecting 'Phones to agree to be a Reaper. Surprised me," Mr. Hanekoma said, closing his eyes as he rubbed the back of his neck, holding the cup and rag in the other hand. I nodded in agreement as I took some more sips of the coffee that was set out in front of me.

"Even you? I wouldn't doubt my abilities to get what I want," Joshua said.

"I don't doubt that for one second," I said. My phone buzzed in my pocket, but I ignored it, trying to focus on what Joshua was saying. Thoughts were swirling left and right as it became cloudy and hard to focus.

"... right (Y/n)?" I snapped to attention and looked at Joshua. I laughed nervously, bringing a hand up to the nape of my neck.

"Uh what? Sorry, I spaced out there for a second."

"Josh here was just talking about the rouge Reaper which had been spotted nearby at A-East. Some Reapers were sent to find him and take him down," Mr. Hanekoma answered for Joshua, who had taken his arm away from me. That sigil

"Oh, well, the quicker we can find him, the better right? Have any Reapers been targeted by him?" I asked. Joshua nodded.

"Yes, quite a few. Taboo Noise do happen to have that effect to target anything in sight, which is mostly Reapers and players together. Speaking of which, the GM actually put missions out to erase all Taboo Noise in some areas."

"Interesting. So the other Reapers are trying to help rid Shibuya of the Taboo?"

"Yep, most are complaining about this being another Minamimoto case and even considered the GM to be working for him or something like that. But, he's been retired, so that wipes out that case. Some Reapers refuse to accept that fact, however." That seemed logical, since I wouldn't want to think that anyone would want more Taboo Noise barging in on their city. I pulled out my phone and looked to see that the buzz from earlier was from Shiki, asking if I was feeling better.

"Who was that?" Mr. Hanekoma asked.

"Shiki," I answered. "She wanted to know if I was feeling better. I told her that I was feeling sick since she asked to hang out before."

"She has your number?" Joshua asked. I nodded.

"Yeah, a little dangerous in some people's eyes, sure, but I know that she means no harm. I did watch her and the others during their time in the Game. I do hope you haven't forgotten that," I said. "Why? Are you jealous because I might end up getting Neku's number through her?" I smirked. Joshua, however, pouted and crossed his arms as he turned away from me.

"I think you just don't want him to get close to me, because you're afraid that he might take me away from you~" Joshua cooed, coming back to his 'senses' as he smirked towards me again.

"Are you admitting your own feelings for him?" I asked, one eyebrow raised. Mr. Hanekoma disappeared somewhere, and I didn't blame him for wanting to skip out on this conversation.

"However you dare to perceive this dear~" I rolled my own eyes and stole a glance at my phone, responding to Shiki with a yes. She almost instantly responded with a question, asking to meet up with me at 104. I looked at Joshua who was leaning on my shoulder, peaking over my shoulder to read the message.

"You can go if you want. I had something to discuss with Mr. H anyway," Joshua said. I looked at him and bit my lip before giving Shiki my answer. But what she then sent me caught me off guard, as she asked if Joshua was with me. Joshua looked at me with an unreadable expression. My phone then rang and I jumped at it. "You're more jumpy than usual, aren't you?" Joshua asked. I answered my phone instead of him and held it up to me ear.

"Hello?"

"So is Joshua with you? Neku wants to know," Shiki's voice rang out from the other line on the phone.

"Uh, yeah. He's sitting right next to me, actually, why?" I asked.

"Neku wants him to come with you when you come to meet up with me."

"Sure, I'll bring him. See you a few minutes." I hung up and pocketed my phone as I looked at Joshua, carefully looking for a response. What would a day out do to him? Nothing bad would happen if he got fresh air every now and then.

"I suppose we're off then, dear. Neku better not take too much of my time. It's dangerous to keep going out into the RG like this," Joshua said, standing up. He took my hand in his, helping me stand up, which wasn't necessary, but Joshua wasn't going to let go anytime soon. I let him continue to hold my hand as he took the lead, walking out of WildKat, without even saying goodbye to Mr. Hanekoma first. There were a few elderly couples who turned to stare at me and Joshua, who paid no attention to them, or did, and wasn't making it obvious. The other couples smiled, as if remembering their youthful days, thinking that we were a couple. My face burned slightly as those thoughts ran through my head. Joshua would never ask me out... Right?

I shook my head ever so slightly and it wasn't long before we made it to 104, and I saw a familiar pair of teenagers, standing inside one of the shops.

"Hey! Shiki!" I shouted. Joshua let go of my hand and I walked ahead of him to greet the girl who hugged Mr. Mew in her arms tighter as she came to greet me and Joshua.

"Hey, I see you brought Joshua too," she said. I nodded and Joshua smirked as he saw Neku approach us.

"Oh Neku~ I didn't even see you there. I'm touched at how fast you wanted to see me, speaking that I had just talked with you. It seems like it was just yesterday," Joshua said, waving his hand slightly at Neku.

"It was just yesterday that I saw you, you ass. I just wanted to know when the next Game is," Neku said.

"You could just give me your number and I could call or something," Joshua said.

"You? With my number? Uh.......... Fine, but I want yours first," Neku said.

"I wasn't expecting you to agree that easily Neku," I commented. He looked at me then and I noticed that Joshua somehow already had Neku's phone and was punching some numbers into it.

"OK, do you two just hang out all the time? Or what's going on? Because wherever Joshua is, you usually are," Neku said.

"That is true," Shiki said. I thought back to teasing her about Neku and smirked at her.

"Well, wherever I go, Shiki, you're usually with Neku. Some would probably consider this a double date if you want to go into specifics," I shrugged.

"Whoa! Whoa whoa whoa whoa! Who said we were on a date?!" Shiki exclaimed. I snickered and as I was about to respond another teenager walked up to us, one who I had never seen in Shibuya before.

"Did I hear someone say double date?"

"If that's what your ears heard, then probably," Joshua hummed, still playing around with Neku's phone. Neku, however hadn't noticed that his phone was missing quite yet. Subconsciously, I pat my pocket to check if my phone was still there, to which it was.

"So, I count three girls. Are two of you girls dating....?" I burst out laughing as Neku couldn't hold in his laughter either. Shiki was slightly confused but realized it after a minute, realizing what the kid was talking about. Joshua gave the kid an offended look.

"Excuse me? Am I really that pretty for boys to think I'm female?"

The other kids eyes almost burst out of their sockets as he looked at Joshua. "W-Wait! You're a guy."

"He looks like one to me," I said, trying to hold in my laughter. Joshua smirked and raised his voice higher than it normally was.

"Yes I am. Now if you wanted me to be a girl, then does this voice suit you?" The kid ran off, shouting apologies as Joshua began to giggle himself.

"OK, Joshua, I need to talk with you again, in private... Oh shut up and don't give me that look," Neku said, looking at Joshua's teasing glance as he opened his mouth to speak, then shut it, debating if he should say what he was originally going to. It was a minute before he spoke up again.

"If you wish dearie~ I hate to leave you alone here (Y/n), but it seems that Neku just can't get enough of me." Neku looked as if he was about to strangle Joshua, before he reached in his pocket. Joshua was already walking away from the three of us, as to avoid Neku at that exact moment. Neku, however, glared after Joshua as he ran after him.

"Hey! Where's my phone?!"
