Chapter 11
As the Angels turned to escort us out of the house, Nikolai sprang up to his feet and charged at Joshua, tackling him to the ground. This pulled me to the ground harshly, seeing how I was holding onto Joshua as the three of us crashed to the ground.
"No no no!" Nikolai shouted. My eyes widened at the sight of him. He shouldn't be able to move after that final attack. He pinned me down, holding his blade that materialized out of thin air to my neck. "I should just kill you now!" Before he could press the blade down he was blown back by a beam that exploded, only effecting Nikolai in the process. Joshua stood up and snapped his fingers, causing a beam to strike him with a hissing sound, smirking to himself. The other Angels only then looked at Joshua and apprehended him. Joshua didn't struggle, but allowed the handcuffs to be placed on him as they escorted him out of the room. Two Angels securely at his side.
"Hey! Cut it out! Joshua didn't do anything!" I protested. An Angel grabbed my arm and started to drag me out of the house, Solaris following.
They ignored everything I tried to say to them as they led us towards the Room of Judgement, where the Archangels were all present on high chairs. They brought Joshua up to the stand first
"Yoshiya Kiryu, current Composer of Shibuya. By what means are you allowed here? It should've been quite clear that you aren't allowed to freely roam this plane. Punishment for this and all of you other crimes is death. We told you before after your little stunt with Shibuya that we wouldn't be accepting anymore excuses." The Archangels looked down at Joshua, before their eyes landed on me and Solaris.
"Sir, we saw the Composer kill Nikolai when we walked in the room and found these two in there with him. They were most likely accomplices in the crime," one Angel said. One Archangel looked at Joshua with a narrowed glance and I grew more worried with every second that passed.
"Explain your behavior as to why you came here unnoticed and what your agenda was."
......
Joshua talked for what seemed like hours and the Archangels let this incident slide, and made it quite clear that one more slip up and he would be stripped of his title and power. They were still upset over the mess that happened in Shibuya because of him before. After calling me and Solaris up to the side, they sent everyone, except for me away, apologizing for their previous actions of putting me under Nikolai. After that, I was reassigned a job after telling them about what I wanted to do. They argued with me until Solaris came in and managed to talk the Archangels into letting me work under Mr. Hanekoma (although they were reluctant due to him being a 'Fallen'). She was able to secure me a place with him and allow me access back into the UG and RG, like what I had before. I exited the room and met with Joshua and Solaris, who were waiting outside. Joshua had his arms crossed and Solaris seemed annoyed trying to speak to him.
"Ah, (Y/n), there you are. I hope you're happy with your job. Figured I should apologize for putting you into that situation in the first place. So, I'm sorry, but I should leave you two to reunite." I nodded and said bye to Solaris as she walked away. My heart beat as I realized it was just Joshua and me, alone. He was looking paler than usual.
"Joshua? Are you feeling OK?" I asked, placing a hand on his shoulder. He smirked and looked at me, how he usually did, before his smirk faltered, disappeared completely. He seemed to be struggling to stand upright.
"Never better. I do hope you're ready to leave this awful place though." I nodded.
"Take my hand and I'll take us back to the RG," I said, grabbing his hands in my own. I focused and changing both of our frequencies to match the RG and descended in the planes, letting the Higher Vibe of the Higher Plane disappear for good as I recognized the familiar streets of Shibuya. I was anxious to be seeing Mr. Hanekoma who I hadn't seen in such a long time (even though about a week doesn't seem long). It was like seeing an old friend who you hadn't seen for years, and couldn't contact them. It was as if all of the oxygen was being sucked out of me as we were forced through the planes. Our wings disappeared as we arrived at a familiar sight, inside of WildKat. I took a step forwards, my legs growing weaker with each passing second. I noticed Joshua hadn't moved and I turned back.
"J-Joshua...?"
He didn't look at me and collapsed to the floor on his side. Blood had seeped out of the gash on his torso. A gasp escaped my mouth and I darted down next to him, holding him in my arms. I shook him lightly.
"Joshua, come on, please. Mr. Hanekoma! Are you here?! It's Joshua! He's hurt!" I shouted. I heard footsteps from above me and Mr. Hanekoma appeared from the bottom of the stairs.
"(Y/n)! I'm glad to see you. What's wrong with Joshua? Oh no..." Mr. Hanekoma's eyes trailed over Joshua and he came over and scooped him into his arms. I stood up shakily as my breath caught in my throat. I was unable to form any words as I stumbled, trying to follow Mr. Hanekoma as he brought Joshua upstairs into the apartment part of the cafe. He set Joshua on a spare bed he had and looked at me. "Are you feeling alright to go and grab a first-aid kit for me?" I nodded and walked into the bathroom, crouching to open the cabinet under the sink. I grabbed the sleek white kit and gingerly carried it over to where Joshua was. As I approached the room, I saw Mr. Hanekoma setting down Joshua's shirt as he examined he wounds. I blushed and handed him the kit as I settled down in a chair next to the bed.
"Thanks. What happened?" Mr. Hanekoma asked. Tears fell down my cheeks as I buried my head in them.
"He fought with Nikolai when he came to save me and nearly died doing so. It was a lot harder than he thought, I assume. This is all my fault. If I had never met you guys, no one would be in this situation, and Joshua wouldn't nearly be dead," I said. I regretted meeting them both in the first place and coming to Shibuya. If I never came, then Joshua wouldn't be lying there passed out, no one would be hurt....
And I wouldn't have these complicated feelings for Joshua either.
I felt Mr. Hanekoma embrace me and pull me in for a hug. I sniffed and ran my sleeve under my nose. "I'm so sorry," I said.
"Don't be. It's not your fault. Josh is doing fine. He was really worried when you wouldn't answer your phone and I've never seen him show so much emotion all at once. You're special, you know that?" Mr. Hanekoma said. I relished his embrace, needing his comfort, but at the same time, I wanted to be alone.
"I'm not that special. I just happen to know him, that's all," I said, drying my eyes.
"Yeah right. Don't lie to me. I can see it in your eyes that you're worried for Josh. I'll leave you two and go and grab some glasses of water. Take it easy, alright? You really should go and rest." Mr. Hanekoma left me in the room with Joshua, and I realized that he was still shirtless. My face heated up as I stood up from the chair and sat on the edge of the bed. Joshua's torso was wrapped in bandages. I ran my fingers over his hair and moved it out of his face. Leaning down to him, I planted a kiss on his forehead and pulled away. I held his hand to my chest as I picked it up.
"Joshua," I whispered, "I'm sorry this happened to you. You wouldn't be in this mess if it wasn't for me.." His hand squeezed mine and I squeezed it back. I let his go and let my fingers trail over his face, taking a lock of his hair in my fingers. His body moved slightly making me freeze but then continue to run my fingers through his hair. A groan escaped his lips as he eyelids fluttered open. I quickly brought my hand back, as if I was doing nothing. My vision blurred as I wrapped my arms around him instantly, hugging him, afraid that he would disappear. "Joshua. I'm sorry-"
"Stop saying sorry. It's like you're a broken record," Joshua commented, giggling to himself.
"But it's my fault you're like this...," I said, looking off to the side. I felt a certain degree of guilt as I held him.
"Aw~ You sound worried for me. How sweet of you~"
I pulled away from Joshua he adjusted himself on the bed, grimacing as he did so. I was about to stand when Joshua's arm snaked around my waist and he pulled me down, forcing me to lie down on the bed. My heartbeat increased as Joshua wrapped his other arm around my torso, pulling me even closer to his bare chest. I couldn't say anything as I could feel him bury his face in the back of my neck.
"I missed you~ That was rude of you to abandon me like that. You're really warm and Mr. H doesn't seem to know what a heater is," Joshua complained. I couldn't say anything back to him as my voice caught in my throat, much like how it had earlier. I wasn't entirely used to being close to him like this. I swallowed and squirmed slightly to get more comfortable, seeing how Joshua had no intentions of letting go anytime soon. I was trapped and sighed.
"Well this is interesting. I leave for only a couple minutes and I find you two cuddling each other." I turned to see Mr. Hanekoma standing at the doorway and felt my face heat up in embarrassment once again. He walked over to the nightstand and set two glasses of water on it. I wiggled and managed to free my arm to grab one of the cups. I sat up, despite Joshua's protests to stay where I was and took a sip of the water.
"Mr. H~ Turn on a heater or something. It's below zero in here," Joshua said to Mr. Hanekoma, who wasn't amused by his childish actions.
"You have blankets in here for a reason. And here-," Mr. Hanekoma threw a shirt at Joshua, "-Put that on." Joshua rolled his eyes and put on the shirt nonetheless, but didn't button it up. Joshua poked my side, causing me to almost spit out the mouthful of water I had in my mouth. I swallowed it and turned to glare at Joshua.
"What do you think you're doing?"
"What does it look like I'm doing?"
I turned with the glass still in my hand and held it over Joshua's head. "Don't make me," I threatened.
"You wouldn't dare ruin my hair," Joshua said. I heard Mr. Hanekoma chuckled, amused by our-- rather my childish antics.
"You really think so?" I poured a third of the glass on Joshua's head, and his eyes widened as his hair stuck to the side of his face. He lifted a hand to his face and brushed his wet hair out of hair and got a devious grin on his face. I gulped as he reached behind me for the other glass of water and dumped it on my head.
"T-That's freezing!" I exclaimed, shivering from the water. Joshua set the glass back down, and took mine out of my hand, setting it behind me. Mr. Hanekoma shook his head and walked out of the room, muttering something about children.
"I am not a child," Joshua whined, huffing as he crossed his arms, leaning on the headboard as he sat up. I sat up with him and wrung my hair out, letting a trail of water fall to the ground.
"You're not a child alright," I muttered.
"What was that, (Y/n)?" Joshua asked. I shook my head. "Nothing..."
"Because of that, I think we should go to Lapin Angelique." Joshua said, standing up.
"You need to rest! Walking around Shibuya is not going to do you any good! And you can kiss that dream of yours goodbye because it's not happening!" I said, standing up on the opposite side of the bed. I almost fell from being weak. Joshua was buttoning up his shirt, leaving the top few buttons undone, letting his chest be seen.
"I'm the Composer. That scratch was nothing. Now get changed. We're leaving... Unless you want me to help you change. I would be happy to help~" Joshua smirked at me. His face had regained some of its color.
"No! I can change myself thank you very much. But before we leave, I'm starving," I said. My stomach growled in response.
"Aw don't worry. I'll feed you. I'm sure Mr.H has something in his cafe for you to eat," Joshua said. I rolled my eyes and shivered at the water that dripped off of my hair and onto my back. I walked out of the room, using the wall for support to make it to my room. Thoughts swirled through my head as I was growing more and more confused with each second, but one thought stood out the most.
I know that Joshua wants to know about what happened with Nikolai, and this was his way of getting me alone to spill the beans.
