Murky water stuck in between
Murky water at our feet
Mouth open wide, in it seeps
But you can't hear me

The mockingjay flies ahead
Feeding and feeding off discontent
It then falls and dies
Poisoned by thoughts and lies

It was a rope ready to snap
And I wasn't aware I was hanging off the edge
But the wind blew me safely across
Before you could let go yourself

Murky water stuck in between
Murky water drained into the ravine
Mouth open wide, nothing comes out
You already said what you wanted to hear

The mourning dove flies ahead
Carrying my silent cries I didn't know I had
It doesn't reach the end of the ravine
Where your back is turned to me

The rope lies forgotten
Hanging tauntingly off the edge
It may be frayed, it may be old
But maybe it's enough to bring me back to you
