❝Just Go To Bed❞
On everyone's way to bed, the three support group leaders were headed off to their own rooms as well. Haeun let everyone know that it would be good to get a fair amount of sleep each night, but she also encouraged the group to explore whenever they wanted. It wasn't against rules to adventure the house at night, and the fridge is never off limits.
"Help yourself to anything," she let everyone know before retreating to her bedroom in the basement. Jonghyun and Suzy also went their separate ways.
People began taking turns in bathrooms to change into sleepwear or share sinks to brush their teeth and wash their faces in. Most settled into their beds to try and get some rest from their tiring day of learning new people. On the other hand, a few decided to not let the night go to waste. Yuri ended up being one of these.
Her bed was closest to the door, making it easy access for her to sneak out of the room while her roommates Junhyun and Jiyeon were in their beds. Yuri was usually one to sleep early and get plenty of it. However, she couldn't seem to close her eyes for more than five minutes that night.
Instead of waiting for sleep to come to her, she decided to brush it off and travel to the kitchen to satisfy her craving for something sweet.
"I mean, she did offer the fridge to us anytime," Yuri muttered under her breath.
Her fuzzy socks made Yuri's steps soft and silent. She slowly turned the corner, stretching her hands out of her oversized sweatshirt sleeves to pull open the fridge. Before her hands made an effort to wrap around door handle, there was the quiet sound of paper being flipped. Yuri peeked behind her.
Past the counter, the living room section could be seen from the open room concept. Someone was seated on the couch with a book in hand. A lamp on a small side table was turned on to cast a light glow on the page.
Yuri pulled away from the fridge, changing her task at hand to the person on the couch. She crept closer until she was directly behind said person. She could tell by his stature and hair that this was Jaehyun.
"What are you reading?" Yuri asked, keeping her voice low for the sake of the rest of the house.
Jaehyun flinched from surprise while jumping to his feet. With a quick movement, Jaehyun pulled off his circle glasses from his face and held them behind his back. As he did, the book slipped from his hand and landed on the floor; closed.
Yuri awkwardly coughed and took a small step back. "Um, did you happen to mark your page?"
Jaehyun looked down to his book with disappointment. He quickly erased the look when he met his focus back to Yuri's. "I don't like to read anyway."
"Why did you hide your glasses?"
Jaehyun briefly glanced away and hesitated with his answer.
Yuri cracked a friendly smile. "Come on, we're here to be honest with each other."
"I really don't want people to see me with them," Jaehyun admitted with a shrug. He bent down to pick up the dropped book.
Yuri eyed the items in his hands. "Why don't you want—"
She was cut off from Jaehyun leaving the room and heading back to his room. Yuri pursed her lips in confusion while tilting her head to the side. "Goodnight to you, too."
Back in Yuri's room, her roommate Jiyeon was awakened by Yuri's departure. She wasn't as sneaky as she intended to be. Jiyeon became curious about what Yuri was up to. She checked Junhyun, who was fast asleep.
Jiyeon wrapped a small blanket around her shoulders while she left the room. The hallway was dark, but the moonlight gave enough glow for Jiyeon to make her way to the stairs. At the bottom, her eye caught the silhouette of a firgure standing on the back deck. She carefully slid open the glass door to the deck and stepped out into the cool atmosphere.
The boy, Haechan, turned to face Jiyeon with a smug look on his face. A puff of smoke left this mouth as he slowly raised a cigarette. "Did you come out to take a hit?"
Jiyeon eyed the boy with a questioning look. "No," she quickly replied. "Why do you even smoke?"
"This isn't the worst you could've caught me with." Haechan put the rolled up paper between his lips while inhaling the smoke. He then tilted his head back to blow it back out.
"And you brought drugs here?" Jiyeon pulled the blanket tighter around herself with a disgusted look on her face.
Haechan let out a short laugh. "Yeah. You could say I'm addicted."
"Well," Jiyeon started. Before she continued, she briskly walked up to Haechan and plucked the cigarette from his hand. Jiyeon crushed it on the railing of the deck, twisting it until it was no longer burning. "We're here to get better."
"Getting better wasn't my decision." Haechan started directly into Jiyeon's eyes, his expression becoming more serious. "I didn't choose to come here. My aunt forced me to join."
"Maybe your aunt was right to put you in here," Jiyeon retorted. She held the door open to make sure Haechan would go in first.
Haechan huffed as he entered the house. "I don't get why it matters to you."
"Just go to bed," Jiyeon told him, becoming annoyed by his stubbornness. "I just want to help." With that, Jiyeon started down the hall to make her way back to her room, dropping the dead cigarette in the trash can.
Yuri was just leaving the kitchen when Haechan turned to head towards the boy's hall. They bumped into each other, scaring Yuri to the point of falling to the floor.
"Holy sh—" she almost cursed out loud. From instinct, Yuri reached out to grab something that happened to be a large plant. The tall vase fell over with Yuri and shattered on the hardwood floor.
"Dammit, Yuri!" Haechan hissed through clenched teeth.
"What's going on?" Jonghyun's voice questioned. He poked his head out from his room to the hall as others began to do the same.
Suzy gasped at the sight once she was outside of her room.
"Sorry, sorry," Yuri apologized as she scrambled to her feet. "Haechan scared me and I fell over." She glanced in the direction of where Haechan was standing, but found the spot to be deserted. Turning the other way, she noticed him slipping into his room. That bastard, she thought. I love him like family but, man, is he like a stereotypical brother.
"Don't worry about it," Suzy reassured her. "Let's just get this cleaned up."
"I'll help clean it up," a voice offered. Suzy and Yuri faced Jaehyun as he glanced between the broken vase and the two girls. "You should get some sleep, Suzy."
"Thank you, Jaehyun." Suzy gave a warm smile. "The broom is in the closet," she pointed to a door on the other side of the hall. "You can leave the plant outside."
Everyone slowly retreated back to their rooms, leaving Jaehyun and Yuri to clean up the mess.
"Looks like someone's turned over a new leaf," Yuri joked as she took the broom. Jaehyun rolled his eyes as he collected the broken pieces.
