❝Happiest Memories❞ (pt.2)

"My happiest memory would probably be the time my mom was away and I was able to feel free while roaming around town by myself." Jiyeon scratched the side of her arm while she spoke. "I could be away from her while enjoying the world."

"Who else loves the feeling of being free and alone?" Haeun asked the group.

A few people, including Jaein, raised their hands in response. "I love the feeling of being free and running away," Jaein put in. "I've grown to feel for it."

Haechan, who sat next to Jiyeon, leaned forward with his hands folded. "My happiest memory is also one about being away from home. My aunt wasn't up my ass all day, so I was able to feel relaxed and at ease doing things that I enjoy."

After Haechan, it was Youngchu's turn to speak. "My happiest memory was when I was reading to my little brother one night to calm him down during a thunderstorm." Youngchu tilted her head while staring down at the floor. Her face hinted a smile, as if she was recollecting the past. "He was so small at the time and sat in my lap. It was my favorite childhood book and ended up being his as well. I have most of it memorized by now."

"Do you mind reading a bit of that story to us as a way of acting it out?" Haeun suggested.

Yuta hopped out of his seat and sneakily slid onto Youngchu's lap. He let a sly smile play on his expression as Youngchu just looked utterly confused. "I'll play as your younger brother," Yuta offered.

"Um... I—okay?" Youngchu stuttered before starting the story, reading the first page from memory. "Once upon a time..."

After she finished a couple of sentences, Youngchu paused and pushed Yuta off of her lap. "I can't do this. Story's over, kid."

"I bet you enjoyed that," Yuta joked, raising an eyebrow at her. Youngchu only narrowed her eyes and slowly shook her head.

Jaehyun waited for Yuta to return to his seat before beginning. "My happiest memory was winning a regional basketball game." This opened up the group to a discussion about sports, specifically basketball. Jaehyun had an obvious passion for it since you could see his eyes glow when talking about his win. The group also discovered Yuta's love for soccer.

It was time for one of the camp leaders to talk: Suzy. She cocked her head in thought while looking towards the ceiling. "My happiest memory is probably when I was back with my family and we went out to eat lunch then go bowling. We shared a lot of love and laughs." Suzy's face seemed to brighten. "I miss those days. We no longer see each other that often because of complications."

After a short family discussion, it was Johnny's turn to speak. "Probably the time after I had my first panic attack. I realized just how much my parents cared for me. They helped calm me down and bought me my favorite flavor of ice cream: cookies and cream."

Come to find out, only a small majority of the group have supporting parents. Johnny, Taeil, and Mark were lucky amongst the others to have two parents by their side to stick up for them in their hardships.

Next was another group leader. Jonghyun sighed with a bright smile. "My happiest memory was when I met my boyfriend, Taemin." A small laugh erupted from him. "I knew as soon as we started talking that he was the one I was meant to be with."

Doyoung perked up when listening to Jonghyun. He's always been too afraid to come out with his sexuality because it slipped once at his school and is now bullied because of it. Instead of sharing how he connects, he decided to stay quiet for now and go ahead and talk about his happiest memory.

"There was this one day where I got along with my parents quite well," Doyoung started. "We traveled to an open flee market and went to all the different booths one spring when I was younger. They let me get whatever I wanted."

"What were some things you got?"

Doyoung let out a short laugh. "It was pretty much just fruit and good smelling soap. I was five, so anything would amaze me."

"My happiest memory is similar to Jiyeon and Haechan's because I was out of my house alone," Shin-Hye began to talk. "It was during the time my parents were still together, so my life wasn't a complete mess with bad money situations. I remember it started to rain and I snuck out. It was so relaxing and I didn't have a care."

"I love the rain," Junhyun put in. Youngchu, Jiyeon, Jaein, and Johnny also shared their liking for it. WinWin shyly nodded with a quiet, "me too."

"Sicheng, what is your happiest memory?"

WinWin directed his gaze across all the faces turned to him. "My happiest memory was..." his words caught in his throat as he started to think. "I-It was last night when... when we all played a game."

"That was your happiest memory?" Yuta asked the quiet boy. A genuine smile cracked on his face. "Wow, WinWin, I'm flattered that I was able to be there."

WinWin flashed back a soft and warm smile to everyone. The second real smile, and both have only shone for the group of people he barely knew.

"I'm glad we could do this activity." Haeun clapped her hands together with a successful feeling. "I will be creating a group chat later for all of us to message in. It will mostly be to call group meetings and to post schedules for chores and activities. Feel free to use it as a way of communication as well. Just remember to be respectful, and no fighting." Her eyes scanned over Taeyong and Yuta. "You are now free to do whatever you please. We will have a group meeting later tonight, which I will post on the group chat. Now... break!"
