Chapter 15

As Kageyama and Iwaizumi walked into the huge structure, the huge wooden doors slammed shut behind them. This was it.

Hajime could either free Tohru, or die here, and drag Kageyama to his grave as well. And he had to admit, the odds were looking grim. On top of all that, Oikawa was nowhere to be seen. It wasn't really that Iwaizumi had expected him to just appear, but he was still disappointed when there was no sign of life. Or otherworldly beings that were probably immortal. Either would've been good right about then. Silently, Kageyama linked eyes with him, and the two made their way towards a set of stairs near the front room. If they didn't know where Oikawa was, they'd have to look for him throughout the entire castle.

He had to get to Tohru.

Somehow, he'd get to Tohru.

And it didn't take long to find Oikawa, either. As it turns out, he'd been biding his time, but Iwaizumi had been naive. There were traps, hidden all throughout the castle. Deadly traps. Traps that almost took his and Kageyama's life.

The first one was an attack that was clearly meant to stun them for long enough for something else to happen. They were walking through the silent castle when an excruciating noise was suddenly just...there, so loud it was painful. Iwaizumi had fallen to his knees with his hands over his ears, trying to block out the noise. Thankfully, Kageyama had the sense to drag them out of there before the real danger appeared.

"And that one's the big dipper. The little dipper is right there."

"What's that one?"

"That's Ursa Major."

"You really like stars, Oikawa."

"Yeah. And I told you, you can call me Tohru if you'd like."

"It's fine. What's that one?"

"Ooh, I like that one. That's Andromeda."

"That's a really pretty name."

"I wish I had a name that pretty."

"Your name isn't as pretty as Andromeda, it's prettier."

"You really think so?"

"I just said so, would I ever say something I didn't think?"

Tohru racked his brains. Not once had he heard Iwaizumi lie about his opinion to his face.

"Nope."

"Right answer. Now come on, I don't want your parents to find out we're on the roof of your house."

"Just five more minutes? Please?"

"...fine."

That memory, and many others, flew through his brain faster than a windswept seagull as he kept pace with Kageyama. It reminded him of something. It wasn't Tohru he was trying to save. It never had been.

It was the person inside of him.

It was the person that made him feel better when he was down.

It was the person who made sure he was never alone.

It was the person who hid his own pain to help others. Iwaizumi couldn't forgive himself for not noticing.

It was the person who, all those years ago, met him almost every night to look up at the stars.
