Chapter 10
According to the map, Iwaizumi and his new friends only had around three days to go, based on the pace that everyone was walking at, how many times a day they stopped to rest on average, when and where they were hiking, and when they decided to stop and sleep. At least, according to Yachi, who was really smart, according to anyone he asked. Thanking her, he rolled up the map he carried and stood up.
He didn't think about the fact that Oikawa had been possessed for almost two and a half weeks, if possession was even the correct explanation. He didn't know that for sure.
But if he was Oikawa right now, and he didn't know that anyone was coming for him... And he'd have to assume Oikawa didn't, however much it pained him to...
If he were Oikawa right now, he'd be heartbroken.
Tohru sighed, and looked around again in his invisible prison. He'd tried too many times to talk to his classmates, and teammates, and even his former enemies, but per usual, had no luck. He found himself crying one night, his invisible tears forcing out emotions he didn't even know he'd had, and shouting into the dark halls, but no one could hear him. At one point, he decided to just see if he could break free of this himself, and tried to punch through the walls. His fist smacked into it, and he thought he heard a crack or two, but of course, he was the only one who could hear it. He was alone.
Or so he thought.
Kunimi's head shot up at the sound of a guttural, pained scream, the kind that can't stem from only physical pain. Looking around, he could tell everyone else heard it too. He couldn't believe it, but it sounded like...
"Dammit! Dammit, dammit, DAMMIT!"
A rush of murmurs swept through the dungeon.
"It's...It's Oikawa, isn't it?"
"Yeah, but It's not that Oikawa. It actually sounds like...him..."
"Do you think he might still be in there?"
"I don't know. We should try to call back."
Tohru's eyes snapped open as he heard someone scream his name.
Could they hear me?
"Guys?!" he screamed, "I'm here, can you hear me?!"
A few moments, then...
An echo of a response.
"It's us! Where are you?!"
He was running though the corridors now, racing to the chamber in which he knew they were being held, and screeched to a halt right in front of them.
"I'm right here!"
"We don't see you!"
"But I'm right...in front of you..."
"It's okay, It's okay! We can hear you, that's all we need for now! Do you know what's going on?"
"No. I don't. But I know that demon has my body, and I'm like a puppet."
"So that was someone else...all along...?"
"Yeah."
He felt a pang in his chest.
Did they really think...that was me...?
It's...It's probably fine.
"Anyway," Kunimi continued, Is there a way to get you out? Can you regain control?"
"I did once, and freed Kageyama, but I think now it's too aware. I can't fight it anymore. It's...It's winning."
"You freed Kageyama?"
Though it was not said out loud, he could hear it nonetheless.
Instead of us?
"Oikawa, are you there?"
"I- I'll see you tomorrow."
"I- no, wait-"
But there was no response from Tohru. He had left, too ashamed of himself to face his teammates any longer.
