Chapter 32

Zak POV

I walked into the kitchen slowly. I knew Darryl would be in there but I forced myself to go in there.

How could I be so stupid last night?

I walked into the kitchen and Darryl and I locked eyes.

Please don't say anything.
Please don't say anything.
Please don't say anything.

He smiled softly at me before turning away. Thank God.

Vincent and Dave walked into the room. "Good morning Vincent." I said. "Good morning." He replied.

I just glanced at Dave before looking away. There's been tension between us since the night we got into a fight.

Darryl must have noticed the tension because he quickly began to talk. "So I was thinking," he said, "We should go to the park!"

The three of us gave him an unimpressed look.

He sighed, "Come on. It will be fun, when's the last time you actually went outside and did something?"

Vincent sighed, "He has a point."

"Okay whatever." Dave agreed.

They all looked at me, "Fine." I said.

I went to walk out of the kitchen but Darryl stopped me, "Aren't you gonna eat anything?"

"I'm not hungry." I replied. He gave me a worried look and I sighed. I picked up a piece of toast. He still gave me a look. "This is all you're getting. Take it or leave it." I said, walking out.

*woosh*

"Guys, it's time to go!" Darryl's voice rang out through the house.

I got up slowly and put on a hoodie. I walked out of my room and towards Darryl. "Isn't that gonna make you a bit too hot?" He asked.

"You know hoodies are basically the only thing I wear." I replied. Vincent and Dave walked in, now dressed. "Okay lets go." Vincent said.

We walked out and got into the Darryl's car.

Darryl POV

We got into the car. Dave was driving with Vincent in the passengers seat and me and Zak in the back.

I watched as Zak pulled out ear buds from his hoodie pocket. He plugged the, into his phone and put them in.

I bet a lot of people do this. Just sit and listen to music in the car. But Zak seems so lost, it doesn't seem like he's doing it for entertainment, but more as a distraction. If I listened closely I could hear the song.

Cause somebody stole my car radio and now I just silence, sometimes quiet is violent. I find it hard to hide it my pride is no longer inside, it's on my sleeve my skin will scream. Reminding me of who I killed inside my dream, I hate this car that I'm driving there's no hiding for me. (Can anyone guess what this song is?)

I wonder what they mean by that. Does Zak understand? Probably.

The car came to a sudden holt. "We're here." Dave said.

Zak POV

We walked to the park. There were little kids swarming the playground. "Hey guys! Let's roll down the hill!" Vincent exclaimed.

He pointed and I turned towards the hill. We all agreed and walked towards it. I walked to the edge of the hill, ready to roll down but hesitated.

My sister and I used to do this all the time. We would run into the park and roll down the hills. Our parents would always take videos of us, laughing. Those were the simpler times.

I felt a hand on my shoulder, snapping me out of my thoughts. I turned and saw Darryl, "Are you okay?" He asked.

I nodded and then I spotted something. I gasped and Darryl looked at me puzzled, "What is it?"

Darryl POV

Zak pointed and I turned and saw a skateboard. I saw it just sitting there no one around it. I turned back to Zak and saw him smiling. He ran over to it and picked it up.

"You know how to skateboard?" I asked. He nodded, "Yeah, I used to practice all the time until..." He trailed off.

I didn't want him to start over thinking so I changed the subject. "Show me, I wanna see you riding it."

His eyes lit up as he walked to the edge of the hill. He stood on the skate board and I grabbed his arm, "Wait, you're gonna ride it down the hill?"

"Yep, I used to do it all the time."

This seemed like a horrible idea but I took a step back. As he got ready to go down I braced myself for him to fall.

But nothing happened.

He glided down the hill smoothly without any hesitance. When he reached the bottom he looked up at me and smiled. I smiled back.

It turns out skateboarding was Zak's hobby and he was really good at it. He knows how to do all these cool tricks and different things that I can't imagine myself doing.

But one thing that made me happy was that he never once seemed to be upset. He had this glint of happiness in his eye and it was great.

He walked up to me after a while, "Was that good?"

"Awesome, I can't believe you can do that." I replied. He smiled at me then grabbed my hand and dragged me towards the skateboard. "I'll teach you." He said.

After that he never became unhappy.

I think I found Zak a new coping mechanism.
