Chapter 15

Zak POV

The phone rang 3 times before they answered.

"Hello?" They said.

"Hi, I need a favor. A huge favor." I said.

"What is it?" They asked. I hesitated, what if they say no? I took a deep breath, I've done it before, I don't know why I'm so nervous.

"Can you bring me something?" I asked.

"What?"

"The thing." I said.

"What thi- oh that." He replied, "Yeah sure."

I sighed in relief, "Thanks."

"No problem." He said.

"Bye Skeppy."

"Bye Zelk."

I ended the call and smiled, maybe today isn't so bad after all.

My door opened and I turned to see Vincent. "Darryl made dinner." He said. I got up and followed him out the door. As I walked into the kitchen Darryl looked up at me with worried eyes.

I immediately knew why they called me, they didn't make dinner. They wanted to talk about my... issues. I instantly took a step back, ready to walk out. Vincent grabbed my arm before I could leave.

He looked me dead in the eye and said, "We need to talk."

He pulled me to the table and we all sat down. "So," Darryl started, "Like Vincent said, we need to talk."

While Darryl was acting gentle, Vincent got right to the point. "Why do you cut?" He asked.

I stared at him with a blank expression. Did they really think I would answer their questions?

I allowed myself to get lost in thought. My mind drifted to my sister. I wonder what she's doing right now. Probably at a party, like always. Or maybe she's hanging out with her room mate.

Next my thoughts settled on my mom. I instantly felt my eyes tear up as I thought of her. I miss her so much. She's the rea-

"Zak!"

I was snapped back to reality when Darryl called my name. "Huh?" I said.

"Are you even listening?" He asked. I shook my head and smirked.

"Oh my goodness! Listen!" He yelled. I jumped at the sudden raise in his voice. He immediately looked guilty. Ever since my dad started drinking, I've hated being yelled at. Whenever someone tries to touch me I involuntarily flinch.

It sucks.

"I'm sorry." Darryl said.

I completely ignored his apology and stood up. "Well that was a good talk." I said and I made my way to the door.

Surprisingly no one stopped me. But before I left I heard Darryl say, "Wait, one more thing."

I turned to face them.

He continued, "You know we care about you, right?"

I let out a stale laugh, "Yeah sure."

With that I walked off.

Darryl POV

"Yeah sure."

I immediately felt bad for him. He doesn't think that anyone cares about him. He doesn't believe that I care about him. But I do, I really do.

So I made it my mission. I will get through to him.

I swear I will.
