The Monster In My Head

There was once a little girl in 6th grade. Happy and Carefree. She was excited about life. She believed in herself and loved everything about her. It didn't really matter to her if anyone didn't like her. She was just being herself.

But her life changed after she met him...

"W-Who a-are you?" She stuttered to the dark figure that loomed over her shoulder.

"Little girl, I am your new friend." He whispered in her ear. His guttural voice sent shivers down her spine. He is not a friend. she knew

Whenever she was around people he would whisper in her ear. "They are watching you. They are judging you." He chimed in, his voice deep and scratchy echoed in her head.

The once lively girl who loved being around people, curled up in the corner of the room, away from everyone.

The solitude that once gave her solace became a prison "They are still watching."

Her little form clung helplessly to her mom. "Mom I don't want to go to school." She mumbled, barely holding her tears.

"Everyone is an enemy." the monster laughed "They hate you. They will destroy you."

Once the girl who wasn't scared to speak her mind and meet peoples' eyes, now always had her head hanging low. Lowering her gaze she tried to avoid attention as much as she could.

"They think you're ugly."

"Look they are laughing at you."

The purity of her got sucked in the pitch darkness of the monster. She shut everyone out, engraved in her own loneliness and fear.

She decided to adapt herself to people, her own enemies. She plastered a bright smile on her face.

She was known as ever-smiling but she deep inside she was scarred. She ended up making the biggest mistake, which was changing who she was.

The once assertive girl ended up becoming
An insecure people pleaser

A pathetic doormat

That is how she was looked at.

Even when she improved
Even when she worked hard
Even when she did well

She was never acknowledged and Why would she be?

No matter how pretty a doormat is
A doormat is a doormat
People would only wipe their feet on it, without ever looking back.

They walked all over her, always disregarding her beauty.

Now the once pretty soul was all worn out.
Her colours had faded
She was a mess now.

Nobody cares about a mess, it's annoying, all people do is ignore it.

The more she tried to run, the more he dug his claws in her heart.

Whenever she was around people she always felt their piercing stares on her.

The worn-out girl had enough and she reached out for a hand. The hand gave her strength to fight back. The monster mocked her courage but made a truce with her. For now, I am leaving, I will come back stronger than ever, his crooked mouth curved into a twisted smile, his eyes gaping like a void.

She wasn't the same anymore. The scars he gave her had lasted and gave her agony. He took a part of her with him, as he never wanted her to stand again.

She had started to sleep more and eat more. Anything that gave her solace from the grim voices in her head.

She was 14 when the solace once again stirred with an ominous coldness. She felt the shivers down her spine again. Her hand and feet got cold and her heart felt like it would leap out of her chest. The cold sweat was a warning...

I told you I will come back.

The girl tried to resist him but he shook her hard, making her entire body tremble.
You will never win. You are pathetic.

"Please leave me alone." The girl begged, "I want to live."

You will live. With me.

She refused and reached out once again. After receiving the strength, she fought back. The monster grinned ear to ear, I will come back. Next time with a new guest. Don't ever underestimate my partner-in-crime. For I am anxiety and he is depression.
The monster announced with a maniacal laugh.
