Chapter One

Marinette’s POV

“Bye bye little butterfly!” Ladybug called after the akuma, freed from its victim. She smiled as she watched the white butterfly soar through the sky. This was always her favorite part of an akuma. The silky wings flapping against gravity whilst the sun beamed its rays on it.

Ladybug sighed once the butterfly was gone. Akuma attacks were getting harder to beat. Either she and Chat Noir were getting weaker, or the enemy is getting stronger.

Ladybug looked down at the lucky charm in her hand. An arrow. During this akuma, she didn't need her lucky charm. The akuma didn't do any damage to the city. Now she has a random arrow which has no purpose.

As the akumatized victim began to transform into a normal citizen, Ladybug walked over to her. The girl was in a different class than her, but she looked very familiar.

The fourteen year old has curly, bright red hair which shone in the light of the sun. Her hair complemented her tiel green eyes. Her outfit was a dress that went down to her knees. The dress had flowers on the bottom half and a blank top part. She had a brown buckle in the middle of her dress. Her heels were around the same color as her hair.

She seeked around her surroundings, looking for nothing. Spotting Ladybug in front of her with a smile, the girl backed away. Ladybug was a little confused about the girl. Why was she backing away?

“I-I was akumatized… wasn't I?” The girl’s soft voice sounded like a kitten. Her eyes darted to the ground in bashfulness.

Ladybug spoke, “Yes, that's correct.”

The girl was silent for a moment. She seemed to be processing what she had done in her head. Suddenly, she stood up. In a small whisper, she replied with, “Thanks Ladybug.”

As soon as then, the girl was gone. Walking away from Ladybug… and the school she was supposed to be at.

Marinette slunk into the classroom, hoping that the teacher didn't hear her open the door. She peered at the teacher, who was writing on the chalkboard. With relief, Marinette tiptoed to her seat. Setting her bag down on the desk, Alya lightly tapped Marinette on the shoulder. Peeking over at Alya,  Marinette realized she was watching a video. Marinette started watching the video over her friend's shoulder.

“Once again, Paris is saved by the help of Ladybug. Oddly enough, Chat Noir is nowhere to be found. All of Paris is wondering where in the world could he be--”

All of a sudden, a clank snapped Marinette back to attention. Marinette’s eyes darted to the teacher, who was staring into her eyes with annoyance.

“Marinette Dupain-Cheng.” The male professor's voice boomed with anger. “Won't you pick up your items you dropped on the floor already?”

Marinette darted to pick up what she dropped. As soon as she saw the items on the ground, Marinette was hesitant. Looking back up at the teacher, she admitted, “This isn't mine.”

The teacher growled, “Do I look like I care? Pick it up!”

Im the background, Marinette could hear Chloe and Sabrina’s laughter. She sighed, and turned back to the items on the ground. She gathered them in her arms, and brought them back up to the desk. Marinette sprawled all of the belongings in front of her.

“See?” The professor spoke with a hint of sarcasm, “That wasn't so hard. Now, where were we?” The professor turned back to the board to continue his lesson.

Marinette, on the other hand, decided to take a look at the belongings she found.

The first item was a small picture frame made of clay. She frame seemed to be really old and fragile, so she made sure she took care of the frame. The designs on the frame was very detailed on one side. That side looked like an artist had crafted it. The other side, however, was the opposite. It was so sloppy that it didn't even hold the picture inside it correctly.

The picture was of two people. The first one that caught Marinette’s eye looked like an adult. The man was very handsome. His unkept white hair sat atop his head, and his tiel eyes were very beautiful. If you looked into his eyes long enough, you can just barely see the ocean. His clothes were raggy and sweaty, but the man didn't seem to care about his appearance.

The second person was much smaller than the man. The little girl’s appearance reminded Marinette of someone. She looked a little closer at her, and she covered her mouth before she could let a gasp escape her mouth. The little girl was the same person who was akumatized earlier that day.

Her pearly whites beamed at the camera, complimenting her eyes which were identical to the man’s. In this picture, her bright red hair was cut short to her chin. Her bangs hung over her eyebrows, not even close to getting in her eyes. Her outfit was a bright yellow sundress.

After a long look at the picture, Marinette put it to the side and picked up the next item.

Her second item was a small bag that should hold the girl’s school supplies. It felt like nothing was inside it though The thing about the purse that caught her eye was the symbol on the bag. A white butterfly.

Putting down the bag and reached for the last item she retrieved. A small journal, which was a little bigger than the bag that she just held. The cover was black leather, with a small lock on the side of it. This must be the girl's diary, Marinette thought.

All of a sudden, the bell rang, signaling that it was time to go. Without thinking, Marinette put the item she held in her hand in her bag. She got up, and left the classroom while talking to Alya.

“Marinette!” Tikki flew over to Marinette while she was thinking about how to answer her question on her homework.

“What Tikki? I've been on this question for ten minutes… I can't believe I missed half of my History as Ladybug, and the rest observing some things that aren't important.”

Tikki asked, “Do you have a second diary?”

“No, why?” Marinette replied. Marinette finally took her eyes off her homework and on Tikki. She had a bad feeling about where this was headed.

Tikki flew over to Marinette’s bag which lay on her small couch. Instead of getting up to see what all the fuss was about, Marinette rolled her chair over to Tikki and her bag. She looked inside, watching Tikki struggle to pull something out. Marinette smiled as she reached her hand inside the bag to assist Tikki.

As Marinette pulled the book out of the bag, her face became deathly pale. Her smile left her face as soon as it came. Marinette screamed, dropping the book onto her bed. It slightly bounced until it was still.

“W-what am I supposed to do?! I stole a girl’s diary! Not only is this bad, but I don't even know her! What if she put a tracker on the diary!? Then she would send the police to my house and get me arrested for stealing! I'd be sentenced to life in priso--”

“Shh!” Tikki shushed Marinette, annoyed of all the assuming Marinette was doing.

“Sorry,” Marinette apologized while smiling. Tikki giggled a little bit, brightening the mood.

Marinette turned her attention towards the diary. It seemed pretty worn out, as if it had been used a lot. Marinette hoped the diary wasn't important to the girl. She doubted her hope.

“We have to open the diary,” Tikki exclaimed.

“What?!” Marinette squealed, turning towards Tikki. Tikki’s giant, lavender eyes were locked on the diary. “Can't you open it yourself though?”

“Well, I can, but I have a better idea.” Tikki flew across the room. Back at the table near her work, Tikki picked up the arrow lying on the table. With the heavy weight, Tikki gradually made her way to Marinette.

Marinette took the arrow from Tikki and turned towards the lock. The arrow seemed to have a perfect fit. Without any more hesitation, Marinette brought the arrow towards the lock. In curiosity, Tikki flew over to watch Marinette pick at the lock with the arrow.

Suddenly, the lock clicked and fell to the floor. Marinette jumped from the metallic sound clanking against the floor. Tikki giggled as she watched Marinette try to catch her breath.

“It's okay Marinette, the diary is unlocked!” Tikki exclaimed, soaring to Marinette in excitement.

“I know,” Marinette admitted. “I'm just afraid of what we will find in this journal.”

Tikki responded, “Well let's find out.”

“Alright,” Marinette sighed, “Here goes nothing.”

Marinette flipped the book open to the first page, not at all ready for what she will find.
