Chapter 14
TW: mentioned rape, mentions of abuse, mentions of drinking.
Virgil sighed as Roman left with his friends. They had a great time, and got to know each other a lot better, and Janus and Remus decided that they might not have to maim Roman later.
Virgil decided to go get groceries before his dad got home. It wouldn't be good if the fridge was empty when he got home. His mom had to go back to work anyways, so he'd just be alone with his dad.
His mom left for work, smiling brightly while waving goodbye, and Virgil left for the grocery store soon after.
--------------------
Virgil's mom walked to her car, and got inside, driving away, still smiling at her son who was walking to the store which was only a couple blocks away.
As soon as she drove out of eyesight of her son, her smile dropped immediately. She put one hand over her face as she pulled up to a red light and stopped the car.
She sniffled, trying to calm her tears.
She wished things would go back to the way they used to be, before Emily died.
When Virgil was happy.
When life was perfect.
When Andrew was nicer.
She pulled her coat closer to her body, making sure all of the..marks he had planted on her were hidden well.
The marks of love that didn't last.
She shivered, remembering what had happened the night before, when she had shoved him away from touching her..
The light turned green and she reluctantly hit the gas peddle, driving to work.
She often would have multiple jobs that were all different, but right now she was working full time at a bakery. She would take up part time jobs as needed, though since she'd been working at the bakery for quite some time she'd moved up and gotten a better paycheck.
She worked hard to get to where she was now, and sometimes she worked more hours than needed, and she often would have to work early mornings and late nights.
Her husband didn't have a job, and he was rather lazy, and made her do everything, so all the weight landed on her to pay the bills, do the taxes, wash the dishes every night, make sure they had everything, make sure there was always dinner on the table, make sure they had a clean house, make sure the carpets were vacuumed, etc.
Luckily, her wonderful son, Virgil was always kind enough to help, but he always feared he was doing it wrong, which he was, but that wasn't the point.
She also had to work hard for Virgil.
Any extra money she could have, she usually used for Virgil.
As in, giving him an allowance, or buying stuff that would help him with his stress and anxiety. She knew he had depression, so she got stuff for that too. A mother always knows.
She's been noticing signs of an eating disorder from her son lately, so she decided she would that tested out soon.
She had high suspicions of her husband hurting her child, she even questioned him about it, but every time he told her it was fine, and he would ask, "why would dad hurt me?" And Lucia never told her what he did to her.
Children shouldn't have to deal with their parents stuff. She didn't need him to worry.
No matter how nice she was, or how much she did, her husband showed her no mercy.
He always degraded her, saying stuff that she could do to be a better person, or criticizing her very modest clothing for being inappropriate.
He has always been kind of aggressive, but something must've set him off long time ago to make him how he is.
When they first met, everything was amazing. They never fought, were never mean, they were actually an amazing pair.
But after they got married, as soon as they got home, he grabbed the innocent woman and raped her, getting her pregnant with Virgil.
Be claimed he was sorry, and that he was just drunk- but she knew he wasn't drunk.
She trusted him though.
That was her mistake.
But she still decided to keep the child.
After Virgil was born, the drinking started. The hitting started. More rape, more abuse. More hurt. More pain.
But gradually as Virgil grew, there was more love.
She always begged Her husband to not hurt Virgil, and he promised to not do it.
She had been weary of that for a few years, however because of how her son has been acting, and how he's changed.
She wished she would've gotten away with Virgil while she could've when he was small. She could have crashed at a friends place or got a hotel.
But she decided to stay with her husband, in hopes he would stop.
But he never did.
And her daughter, Emily.
Emily was blind, and a few years ago died, from severe bullying.
(A/n: bullying isn't a disease or a disorder or anything, it's just that three people beat her up and bullied her to the point where they killed her.)
Virgil couldn't ever give a clear description of the three boys who did it.
He didn't know why, but it seemed like they regretted it..it was just the way they acted, it was like it was just bullying that had gotten too out of hand, and so they panicked.
But in this world it doesn't matter how much you regret it.
It always comes back to you.
Besides, Virgil was delusional, had amnesia, what if it wasn't even three people doing it, but one person?
Virgil had told her though, that they had no regrets as they laughed at the pure horror and shock in his face as he witnessed his sister bleeding out right in front of him, before his very eyes, while they taunted her for being blind.
The distressed mother shook the thoughts away as she pulled up into the bakery, and walked in, greeting the manager, along with one of her friends, Alice, who was a cashier.
"Hey Lucia" Alice greeted, "feels like a Monday" she chuckled.
"Yeah, defiantly going to be a slow day" Lucia replied with a chuckle, as if she hadn't been regretting every single life choice moments prior.
"Going to get started on that new cookie recipe you've been working on? The boss has been noticing all of your hard work" Alice informed her with a soft smile.
"Oh, you know it!" She exclaimed, far too enthusiastic for what time it was, "I just tested it out!"
"Well, guess we should get to work before boss comes in..you know how cranky he is" Alice said with an eye roll.
