Chapter 1

My name is Allison Greyjoy, sister of Theon and Yara Greyjoy, and the daughter of Balon Greyjoy, lord of the Iron Islands.

At least, that's how I introduce myself. That's not who I want to be.

In the short time Theon lived with us, I was closer with him than Yara could ever be. Maybe that's because I looked up to Theon more. Yara's the oldest, and I'm the youngest. Still, I wanted to be more like Theon.

Yara and I fought every day. We still fight every day. Sometimes, I feel like she's purposefully tying to make me miserable. She's so annoying. I love her, but she's SO annoying.

Not to mention that my father always seems to take her side. Even if I'm right, he always takes her side. I wish my father could be as impressed with me as he is with her.

The day Theon left was probably the worst day of my life. It was devastating. The Starks bought him, of course, so he's at Winterfell, which is very far from the Iron Islands.

So when I heard that King Robert and his people were riding to Winterfell, I planned my own trip to go with them.

It was miserable in the Iron Islands. Honestly, there was nothing there for me there since Theon left. Balon and Yara were constantly telling me what a failure of a daughter I am, and I couldn't take it anymore.

So, with the help of my best friend Natalie, I escaped. I got on one of our ships and sailed with her to Winterfell. I had to, really. It was my one chance.

I don't know how Yara and Balon will react to me leaving. Maybe my father will send Yara running after me. I don't care if she finds me. I'm not going back. I'm staying in Winterfell with Theon.

I just have to get there.

"Allison!" Natalie called from the deck. "Are you going to just stand there or are you going to help me get us to Winterfell?"

I smiled ever so slightly and walk up right next to Natalie. "Do you really need help or were you just bored?"

Natalie chuckled as she looked at me. "You know me too well." She leaned against the railing, staring out at the open waters. "What do you think will happen to me when we get to Winterfell?"

I knew exactly what Natalie was referring to. She didn't have much of a place in the world. She was a bastard, a lowborn girl who I'd made friends with a long time ago. I saw her outside, crying her eyes out, and took her in. I hid her in my room for a while until Yara found out and told our father. I got in big trouble, but Natalie and I remained friends nonetheless.

"Maybe you'll marry my brother," I joked, giggling. Natalie burst into laughter at the thought.

"Theon Greyjoy?" Natalie asked between snickers. "No way. I'm a lowborn bastard. He's royalty in the Iron Islands."

"Then why did my father send him away?" I asked softly, putting a hand on Natalie's shoulder. "It doesn't matter if you're a bastard in Winterfell. We look alike. We can be sisters."

At this, Natalie turned to face me. Her expression was very serious for once. "Allison, I... I can't do that. Theon would rat me out. Your father-"

"Does not control my life anymore," I finished, grabbing Natalie's hand in sympathy. "I won't let anything bad happen to you, no matter what. If anyone dares to call you a bastard..." I drew a line across my throat, smirking.

Natalie's eyes widened as she broke into a grin. "Thank you! So much!" She threw her arms around me, practically tackling me to the ground. I let out a soft yelp of surprise before hugging her back. She had always been so sweet. But I meant it. I wasn't going to let anything bad happen to her.

After a few more seconds, Natalie pulled back from the hug, her grin widening. "So! Tell me about your brother."

I sigh and look out at the sea. "I've told you a lot already. He was the best brother I've ever had. We were really close." I smiled at the memories. "We would have a lot of fun together. Much more fun than Yara would with either of us." I rolled my eyes. "She's too perfect."

Natalie nodded. "I wish I had siblings." She rested her arms on the railing. "I wonder if I do. My mother never told me who my father is, so maybe, out there, somewhere..." She trailed off, not finishing. She was a beautiful young lady with dirty blonde hair and blue eyes the color of the ocean. She was on the shorter side, but so was I. I always thought that if Natalie was highborn, she'd marry one of the Lannisters or the Starks. Maybe she'd even have married Theon. I shuddered at the thought. I loved them both, but together? No.

"Maybe," I replied, staring at the horizon for a few more minutes. It was beautiful. There wasn't a cloud in the sky.

"It will take us a fortnight to arrive at Winterfell," Natalie said after a while of silence. "We'll need to take turns resting."

"I can handle her for now," I responded, gesturing towards the ship. "Go get some rest." I smiled at her as she walked to the cabin where she'd be sleeping. And then, I was alone.

I sighed and looked at the beautiful sunset, enjoying the view. It was going to be a long two weeks.
