August came and it was time for the little ones to start school.

Arabella and Joshua couldn't wait for their first day. Joseph and Coltan on the other hand, were dreading Monday.

"I don't want to go, mommy.  I can just stay here with you." Joseph says.

"No baby, you need to go.  You'll have SO much fun.  I promise you!"

"I don't want to go either!  What if something happens?" Coltan says.

"Baby boy, nothing is going to happen!  Mommy, daddy, your brothers and sisters will all be okay."

"But I'll miss you."

"Me too!" Joseph pouts.

"Oh my boys." Jessica wraps her arms around the both of them.

"Can we please stay home?" Joseph asks.

"I'm afraid not, Joe.. you have to go to school, buddy."

Joseph immediately starts whining.

"Nuh uh, don't whine.  You'll be fine!" Jessica smiles.

Monday morning.

"Please no more pokes!  I don't like it." Arabella cries softly.

"I'll be a good girl, guys." She says in the saddest little voice.

"Princess, we're not doing this cause you're bad.  You're a very good girl.  You just need your medicine.  Come on, deep breaths.."

Arabella breathes with her mother.

"Now one deep deep breath, and blow it out.... Good girl!"

"Eh!  OW!" She cries.

"It's okay, it's okay.  It's all over!  Good job, pretty girl!" Jessica kisses her cheek.

"Mommy, how long will I be sick?"

"You're not sick, baby. As long a you take this medicine, you will not be sick."

"So I have to take it forever?"

Jessica took a deep breath. Her heart hurt for Arabella.

"Yes baby. This is something you will have to take.. for the rest of your life." Jessica didn't want to lie to Arabella.

"Or else I'll die "

"What? No, baby! No, don't say that! Now come on. Let's get ready for school. You're super excited, remember?"

"Yeah.. mommy! What if my thingy goes off?!"

"If it goes off, your teacher knows why to do. It'll be okay, princess." Jessica caresses her cheek.

"Okay..."

"Mom!  How do I look?"

"Oh Sophia!  My beautiful baby girl!  You look gorgeous!"

"Thank you!"

"My precious little girl.  How are you in the eighth grade already?  That just doesn't seem possible!"

"I know!  Next year I'll be in high school!" Sophia smiles.

"Stop!" Jessica grabs Sophia and pulls her to her chest.

"My baby girl!  Stop growing!"

"My poor baby Coltan. Joe did well. I'm proud of him.. But Coltan. He needs me, Danny!"

"He's fine, honey. I'm sure he's calmed down by now."

"I hate to hear him cry like that!"

"So do I, honey. But like I said, I'm sure he's fine." Danny smiles softly.

"I hate how quiet it is. I don't like being here when it's just you."

"Thanks."

"You know what I mean! I need noise. I need screaming and fighting, I need the sound of toys being thrown and children stomping off to their room. I miss my babies, Danny!" Jessica pouts.

"I know baby girl.. I'm sorry." Danny pulls her in for a hug. He kisses the top of her head and rubs his thumb on her back.

"We have a few hours alone.. that hasn't happened in so long.. why don't we have some fun?"

"I don't know if I can, Danny. I'm so upset and worried about my bab-"

Danny cuts her off mid sentence and kisses her lips.
He intensifies the kiss as he moves his hands down her body.

Breaking the kiss, Jessica looks down and softly says, "Well.. maybe I can have some fun." She smirks.

Danny chuckles, taking her hand and leading her upstairs.

"Mommy! Daddy!" Arabella, Coltan and the twins run to their parents.

"Hey kids! How was your day?" Danny smiles.

"Good! I like a boy!" Arabella smiles.

"We like girls!" The twins smile.

"I missed mommy!" Coltan smiles and hugs Jessica tightly.

"Awww! I missed you guys!"

As the six of them wait for the two older ones to walk out, they tell their parents more about their day.

"Look! My sissy!" Arabella points.

"And brother! Guys! We're right here!" She waves them down.

"Hi guys!" Sophia runs over.

"How was school, princess?" Danny asks.

"Great! I love all my teachers!" She smiles.

"Awesome! How about you, Jax?"

"My teacher is so hot!"

"Nice!" Danny smiles and high fives him.

"Oh Daniel, stop it!" Jessica laughs.

"Let's go home, loves. We can start on homework and then eat some yummy dinner."

"Sounds like a plan!" Sophia smiles.

One week later.

"We'll be back, babe." Jessica says grabbing her keys.

"Alright, y'all be careful."

"We will, come on, Colt."

"Coming, Mommy."

"Where are you going?" Arabella asks.

"I'm taking, Coltan to his therapy session."

"Okay! Bye, guys." She smiles.

"Bye, baby girl!"

Jessica played music as she drove to his therapist office.
Coltan sang and danced in the backseat.

"Woo, shake it, Coltan!" Jessica smiles.

"I've got moves, mommy! I've got moves!"

"Haha! Yes you do, baby!"

"WOOO!"

Jessica laughs and shimmies in her seat.

Just then, a crash. Everything went black. From one moment to the next, life completely changed.
