-Brooklyn-

(WARNING: This chapter has harsh Language.)

I got in my car gripping the steering wheel until my knuckles turned white.

Gasping for air as more sobs escaped my lips I was forced to pull to the side of the road so I could calm down.

After diminishing my sobs I began to drive again.

With every inch I drove I took a deep breath.

They became consistent as I stayed calm for the rest of my journey home.

Pulling up in my driveway I vowed to myself that I would walk in with a brave face until I reached upstairs.

I walked up the stairs taking a deep breath with each step.

I whispered encouraging words to myself as I walked and when I reached the top I placed my key in the door and walked in.

"Hi sweetheart." My mother greeted.

I hadn't heard someone else's voice in so long.

The last voice was Shawn's.

Shawn.

My face immediately fell and tears began to blur my vision.

"Baby girl what's wrong?" My mother asked standing up.

"Sh-Shawn-" I stumbled through the sobs that now escaped my lips.

"Whatever fight you had it'll blow over I promise." She whispered.

She pulled me in for a hug.

"B-"

"It's fine honey."

I pulled away from her embrace and forced myself to stop crying long enough to get a sentence out before going upstairs.

"We broke up!" I yelled exasperated.

I ran upstairs and slammed my door stuffing my face in my bed.

I tossed and turned punching the pillows and making the blankets into a mess around me.

My door slightly creaked open and I peeked out from under the covers to see my moms slippers walking towards my bed.

"Babe." She whispered.

"Go away." I said.

"What happened?"

"I don't want to talk about it." I said.

"Do you want anything?" She asked. "Tea? Coffee? Tissues?"

I nodded.

"To which one?" She chuckled.

"Tea and Tissues." I whispered.

"Okay." She comforted. "I'll be right back."

I nodded, my face still stuffed in the pillow.

-Shawn-

"I really fucked up man." I told Geoff and Brian.

"Why did I even do that? Why did I say we should break up?" My voice began to rise.

They both just sat silently taking in every word I was saying.

"God." I breathed. "You should've seen the look on her face."

"What did I do?"

"Maybe you should talk to her." Geoff suggested.

"Yeah." Brian agreed.

"You act like it's that easy." I shot back.

"Well I mean, your the one who said you should break up so she'll be more willing to take you back than if she had said it because then she would have wanted it."

I looked down feeling ashamed.

I have to fix this.

-The Next Day-
-Shawn-

The next day I got up and walked to my car.

I drove all the way to Brooke's house in silence.

I had thought over every word I was going to say to her.

Yet when I got to the door none of them came out.

I knocked and her mother opened it.

I figured this would happen.

"Shawn honey I don't know what happened yet between you two but I think it would be best if you left."

"'Mam please just let me talk to her for a second."

She took a deep breath.

"I really don't think it's best." She paused. "For either of you."

"Let him in." Brooke's voice squeaked as she spoke those few words.

Her mother turned around leaving a crack in the doorway open.

Enough for me to see Brooke.

She was wearing sweatpants and a tank top.

Her hair was in a messy bun.

In my opinion she had never looked more beautiful.

"Are you sure sweetheart?" She asked.

She nodded weakly continuing her journey to the fridge.

Her mother stepped aside to let me in.

Brooke walked to the fridge and grabbed a water before motioning for me to follow her upstairs.

She led the way in closing the door behind me so our conversation couldn't be over heard.

She sat down on her bed, it creaking as she did so.

"Brooke-" I began.

She looked up.

Up close I could see her features more clearly.

The prominent bags under her eyes from lack of sleep.

The tear stains on her cheeks running through her makeup from the day before which she had clearly never taken off.

Her smudged mascara under her eyes.

I brought my hand up to her cheek using my thumb to lightly caress it.

She flinched at my touch which made my heart slightly drop.

She instantly closed her eyes taking it in.

She abruptly opened them placing her hand over mine.

"Why did you come here?" She croaked.

"I need you Brooke."

She sighed.

"You're going on tour Shawn." She whispered.

"Fuck tour." I whispered back.

"I have college."

"Fu-"

"Don't say fuck college." She whispered.

"Brooke you're the best damn thing that's happened to me in a long time. I need you in my life. I can't go on without you."

She took a deep breath looking down at her hands.

She fumbled with her fingers for a few seconds before responding.

"I just don't think it's a good idea." She whispered.

She sounded as if she were about to break down.

I grabbed her hands in mine.

She hesitated slightly before gripping my hand with her small, cold hand.

"Shawn-"

I cut her off by pressing my lips against hers.

"I'm sorry Shawn." She whispered. "I just can't do it anymore."

"Brooke do what?"

"Th-the long distance, the not knowing if I'm gonna hear from you that night, the loneliness, the feeling if not being loved." She whispered the last part.

"Brooke I l-"

"I know you do." She cut me off.

She then stood up walking over to her closet and taking something down off of a hanger.

I immediately recognized the all too familiar maroon color as she drew nearer to me.

My obey hoodie I gave her.

"No Brooke-"

"I need you to take it." She whispered.

"If you really love me you'll take it." She whispered.

"It's yours." I whispered looking into her tear filled eyes.

"It's yours now." She croaked.

"I think you should go now." She whispered wiping her tears away.

Tears blurred my vision as I walked down the stairs and out the door.

Leaving the love if my life behind me.
