-Chloe-
After talking to Brooke I went back out to see Shawn standing there.
His head was bent over and stuffed in his hands.
When he looked up at me tears brimmed his eyes and he quickly wiped them away when his eyes met mine.
"Chloe it's all my fault." He whispered. "I did this to her."
"Shawn-"
"No really! I mean you said it before and I thought you were just being a bitch but then the doctor said it could have been something sad or stressful and I kissed her! I mean does that make her sad or stressed?"
"Shawn." I whispered coming closer to him and placing my hand on his chest.
"You're forgetting one thing."
"What's that?" He asked back.
"He said exciting too."
A smirk tugged at the corner of his lips and he began to turn around.
"I'm gonna go tell her parents and Cam and I'll uh see you later." He said.
"Okay." I smiled at him. "See you later."
I watched as he walked away until he reached the doors and then I turned around to go back in icu.
I sat next to Brooke in the chair placed on the side of her bed and placed my feet on the bed next to her hand.
"You know it really sucks you keep going in these comas." I stated unlocking my phone.
"I mean you're probably missing so much in the world."
"Let's see..."
I looked up some news articles to share aloud.
"Ooh!" I exclaimed. "They sell cokes now with your name on them. Only common ones of course so yours should be there and mine."
I continued reading trying to find more interesting stories to tell her.
"Robin Williams died!" I exclaimed. "Although it's not that happy and you probably knew that already."
I sat quiet for a moment before speaking again.
"You know that coke thing really got me craving some."
I paused again.
"Yet again I'm always craving some."
"Shawn or someone should be here soon do you want any?" I asked.
"Well I'll get you one for when you wake up."
I began to walk to the door.
"Which will be when I get back okay?" I asked.
"Okay." I replied.
I walked out of icu making my way towards the big silver doors which led out of this hallway and into another.
Suddenly someone came running out of breath around the corner almost running into me.
"Jesus!" I exclaimed.
"Sorry." They replied looking down.
When he looked up and his eyes met mine I immediately felt as though I recognized him.
"I'm sorry but you look really familiar do we know each other?" I asked.
"I don't think so but you look familiar too." He smirked.
He wasn't bad to look at.
Dark short hair, hazel eyes and a killer smile that ended with dimples on either cheek.
"Weird case of de ja vu?" I guessed.
"I guess so." He replied laughing slightly.
"Tyler." He held out his hand.
"Chloe."
(#tb chapter 50 of never be alone might help you and if you're lazy or just don't care it'll come up later.)
I shook his hand.
"I was just heading to the cafeteria." I stated. "Do you want to join me? You look like you could use a coffee."
He chuckled throwing his head back and place his hand on his neck.
"Yeah that would be lovely." He smiled.
We walked to the cafeteria in silence.
The only audible sound was the humming of machines and our feet hitting the linoleum floors with every step we took.
"What are you getting?" I asked as we rounded the corner.
"I don't know I kind of just came to get out of there."
"Out of where?" I asked.
He looked down at the floor.
I stopped my walking and turned to him.
"Oh I'm sorry! You don't have to tell me! I didn't mean to be rude I was just-"
"No, no it's okay." He said slightly louder now. "We're all here for a reason right?" He laughed slightly and ran his fingers through his hair.
"My best friend is in here." I stated. "She's in a coma and she might not come out of it anytime soon."
He stayed silent for about 30 seconds and then spoke up.
"I'm sorry." He said.
I stayed silent to wait for him to say something.
"My sister is in here." He stated. "She has Stage 3 stomach cancer." He continued.
"I'm so sorry." I whispered.
"Do you want to go get some soda now?" I smiled.
"Yeah." He smiled as well.
As we began walking I spoke up once again.
"You know my friend who's in here her mother has kidney cancer."
"Are you trying to compare?" He asked opening the cooler door.
"No, no of course not!" I exclaimed. "I was just saying- I mean- I kind of-"
"You know-" he said shutting the door with his foot and pointing at me, bottle in hand. "It's cute when you ramble."
I blushed pushing him out of the way to get two sodas of my own.
"Two?" He asked laughing slightly.
"The other one's for my friend." I punched him lightly.
"I thought you said she was in a- uh- c-"
"A coma yeah." I stated. "You know you're an ass when you ramble." I said walking away.
He followed behind me as I set my soda on the counter for the lady. She took them both and scanned them before giving me my total of $3.00.
Before I could pull out my money Tyler reached over me and handed the lady a five.
"You're still an ass." I said as we walked away.
"You're just a slightly nicer ass."
He laughed lightly running his fingers through his hair.
"We've only known each other for an hour and I'm already calling you an ass." I laughed. "That must be a new record."
"I swear I've met you before." He said as we rounded the corner.
"It's just de ja vu." I explained. "Happens all the time."
"Not like this." He responded as we round yet another corner.
"Do you even know where you're going?" I asked him seeing as he was leading the way.
"I don't think I was paying attention." He stated. "Where are we?"
I looked around for any signs of people but there was no one.
Just a long white hall reeking of chemicals.
"Well I guess we just keep walking."
We walked opening each of our cokes.
I was going to save mine to drink with Brooke but I figured I would just buy another later.
She's not that big on coke anyways so maybe I would buy her a Sprite.
"So how long?" I asked.
"6 months." He responded.
"How's she doing?" I asked.
"She lost all her hair and she didn't have very many friends so in her world it's probably over."
"Maybe I could talk to her." I said. "Or Brooke you know once she wakes up. But she's been through a lot."
"That would be great." He said. "Once we figure out how to get there."
"The doctor was supposed to come and talk to me tomorrow morning and I didn't want to be sleeping when he came."
I pulled out my phone checking the time.
1:00 am.
It's amazing how you lose track of time when things happen in your life.
"Here!" I exclaimed rounding the corner to an elevator.
We checked the board between the two elevator doors to find the floor we were on and where we needed to go.
"I already know pediatrics is on the fourth floor." He stated "I've been here long enough."
"I'm s-sorry." I stuttered.
He just smirked before stepping into the elevator and placing his arm in between the heavy metal doors to allow me to enter without being crushed.
"Thanks." I mumbled walking in.
He pressed the silver button with the little black letter four.
Upon his touch the circle around it of white light lit up and the doors began to close.
The elevator was still for a moment before lurching upwards and towards the fourth floor.
"What time is it?" I asked just as we reached the fourth floor.
"2." He responded checking his cell phone.
The elevator came to a stop at the fourth floor and opened revealing the darkness of the pediatrics floor.
It was so dark at this end you could barely see but there were lights at the very end where doctors and the nurses were.
He grabbed my hand unexpectedly and walked me towards his sister's room.
She looked to be about twelve.
She had lost all of her hair as he had already said.
She had blue eyes.
Tubes were coming from every end of her.
I wished right then and there I could take her place.
But sadly that's not how life works.
"Why are you up?" He asked walking over and kissing her forehead.
She closed her eyes when his lips met her skin.
"I was until the nurse came in." She said.
"Did they say anything?" He asked.
She shook her head no and then began to cough.
He placed his hand on her back as she lurched foreword.
"Anyways who is your friend?" She asked.
"This is Chloe." He stated smiling.
She smiled and whimpered a small hi.
I waved and went to stand nearer to Tyler.
He stood from his chair and motioned for me to sit.
He sat on the arm of the chair.
So we talked. And talked and talked.
Until about 4, when I was dozing off and she was already sleeping.
"I think I'm gonna go." I stated.
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah. I have to get some coffee and go see Brooke again." I said.
"Oh." He stood up stretching and helping me up.
I stretched as well and we both walked to the door.
"See you later." He said.
"Yeah." I nodded.
I began to walk away but then I heard someone behind me.
"One more thing." He whispered.
He bent down until his soft lips met mine and we shared a small kiss.
