Chapter 5

The next day was Saturday. My dad stuck his head into my room. I was curled in a ball. Still hurting from yesterday. He looked like he wanted to do more damage but thought better of it. "I'm going out, i'll be home late." He said. Good, go. Maybe he wouldn't have to meet Zane. I mean i'd never had any friends over. I'd also never had any friends.

The wedding was at six so i started to get ready at five. I had some makeup here and there that i'd gotten. My light brown hair fell in long natural waves. So i pulled a small section from each side and pinned it in the back. I had twisted it and placed a flower. It didn't take me long to finish getting ready. At five thirty Zane showed up. I opened the door. He was dressed in a nice tux. "Wow you look beautiful." He said. I pulled a small notebook from my purse. "And you look great too!" I wrote. "Why thank you m'lady. Shall we?" He asked holding his arm out. I took it rolling my eyes.

"What happened to your arms?" He asked looking down at them. I shook my head no. I pulled the note book out of my purse. "I fell down the stairs or something." I wrote panicked. "Or something? You don't know what you did?" He asked furrowing his brows. "Obviously, i just fell down the stairs. Y'know the outside ones." I wrote. "Oh, i'm sorry." He said. I breathed a sigh of releif when he didn't ask about it again.

We pulled into a church and he helped me get out. The parking lot was already full. Once we were inside he found his family. "Sit here?" He asked pointing next to his grandpa. I nodded. "I need to go in the back and get ready to line up. I think i'm walking with Clara Addie's new sister in law." I gave him a thumbs up. He went to the back and nobody said anything. Zane's grandpa grunted in a greeting. I smiled a bit nervously picking up at the lace on the dress.

Finally i heard music and the wedding started. The wedding party started to come down the aisle. When Addie finally came out we all stood up. She looked beautiful in her dress. Once she had made it to the front we took our seats. The wedding part didn't take long at all. Then we were dismissed to the reception. But i waited on the front pew while the wedding party took photos.

Once they were done we went to the reception and were introduced. We took a seat at our table and they brought out plates of food. Only stopping when Addie and her new husband Noah stepped into the reception hall. We cheered loudly for them as the dj introduced them. We all sat down to eat the meal. Zane's family talked amongst themselves and i didn't need to chime in. I couldn't really because i wasn't sure what they were talking about. It was great. Zane would look at me from time to time to give me reassuring smiles. But it was nice seeing a normal family at work.

Once all the food plates had been cleared Addie and Noah cut the cake. It was a beautiful three tiered cake. White with pink roses all over. And it tasted even better than it looked. While we ate the cake the wedding party gave their speeches. Once we had finished that they got ready to throw the bouquet since i was a single lady i got up and went to follow the other girls. I stood in the back though. The bouquet landed at my feet. I bent down and picked it up.

When i set back at the table Zane and his family congratulated me. Then they did the garter toss. "You don't want in on this?" I wrote. "No thanks, that thing was on my cousin i can't believe this is even a thing." He said. "You know what i'm gonna google that." He said pulling out his phone. He typed 'where did throwing of the garter come from? He clicked on the first link that came up.

This tradition originated in England and France. Guests would try to obtain a piece of the bride's dress for good luck, which often left the bride nervous and tense throughout the entire ceremony in anticipation of her dress being ripped to shreds by the eager mob of wedding guests.

"Well that's kind of morbid." He said. I nodded. Then they called out Addie to the dance floor. We watched the bride and groom do there first dance. Then the father daughter dance. They also did a mother son dance which i thought was sweet. Then it was time for the rest of the wedding party to do there dance. We were up. I was kind of nervous but i also knew that i knew this dance like the back of my hand. So we whirled and twirled out on the dance floor until the song ended.

Then we sat around with his family dancing a few songs here and there until it was time to go home. I was glad the wedding was over. He dropped me off at my house. I saw my dad's truck parked in the driveway. I hope he was asleep. Days he went to the bar were fine it was the next day when he was hung over.

"D'ya wanna hang out tomorrow?" He asked. "Okay sure." I wrote. "Okay i'll pick you up about ten, that okay??"He asked. I nodded and then waved and hopped out of the car. I was tired so i went right to bed.
