The big tests

I was given two rooms for teaching, a large empty classroom for practice and sparring and a regular one for verbal teaching. Thompson had asked me my teaching methods and I said that I do hands on training instead of paperwork and tests at the end of the week. "Now clan five, we need a name, we need to test your abilities, and some people to break the ice so let's get started with a name for ourselves." Someone had already raised their hand, a guy in a hood with brown hair covering one eye. "How about the warriors?" The class murmured and giggled to themselves.

"Sorry, Mr. Randall. But I think thats a little too common, something more unique but just as powerful." I took some chalk and wrote it down on my chalkboard and added a tally mark to it. "What about Trailblazers or Pathfinders?" I nodded and put it up on the chalkboard. "Hmm, I feel like we can do better than that but good. Word is this used to be a powerful clan so why not something that says that because I plan on returning that glory to this team again." Grace raised her hand and smiled. "How about The Legends?" I grinned and wrote it on the board.

"All in favor of The Warriors? " No hands except one. I scratched it out and gave Randall a sympathetic smile. "How about Trailblazers?" A few went up but not many so I erased that too. "How about The Legends?" All hands went up with nods and smiles. "Okay, Legends now its time to test your abilities. Now, everyone grab a weapon from the weapon rack and wait for instructions, if I see a single person hit anyone or mess around there will be consequences." They all grabbed a weapon and stood there chatting amongst themselves. A few had swords and daggers, others warhammers and maces, and the rest bows.

"Now then, see the five sensors on the handle? I want you to place your fingertips on them and focus your energy through the weapon. Feel as if its an extension of your power." They all did but only a few didn't flare up, the majority did and I was surprised at the number of Weapon Wielders I had. "Again!" I shouted. I saw the determination in their faces as one by one all of their weapons sparked to life, adding enhancements to them. I grinned and waved my hand in the air to tell them to rest. "Very good! I'm shocked to see so rare ability in my class. Not many can be eligible for the elite crew of Weapon Wielders and all of you could light your weapon." I unsheathed my katana and lit it up.

"I could at age ten and to its full potential too, but I doubt that none of you at the moment can do this." I turned towards a target and slash the air, making an arc of plasma fire at the wooden plank and blowing it to splinters with sparks flyng. They stared at me wide eyed with awe, fear, and excitement. "Now that I know what we have in store for our next few months, lets do ability assessment. Line up on the wall and wait to be called. The group did so and waited.

"Violet Allison. " I placed a practice dummy in the middle of the room and gestured to it. She stretched out her legs and arms then jumped and left a smoke cloud where she was then reappeared behind the dummy and kicked its head then grabbing its face and leaving acid on it, making it burn and ended her demonstration by running her hands over it, restoring it back to normal. She flipped her purple hair and chewed on her gum as she returned to the line. "Oh three abilities and flexible, so nice to know of. Zack, you have your first student." I smirked at him.

"Randall Berry." He stepped out of the line, staring at the dummy before he vanished, turning invisible. He reappeared falling from the ceiling with a dagger and sliced the dummy's head off before he hit the ground and did a backflip. He threw an apple at the dummy then threw his knife into the apple and through the dummy, he smiled in satisfaction then went back in line. "Assassin. Enough said. Sarah Bernard, please step forward." She approached the dummy and whipped her hands forwards and shot forward beams of thin beams of energy, burning holes in the chest of the target. She started to sweat but went on to pick up the dummy with telekinetic energy then slamming it. She fell to her knees then staggered to the line.

"That one is yours Gracie. Alice! Your turn." She nervously stepped out of the line then breathed in deeply to calm her nerves. I nodded at her and smiled, hoping to give her some sort of confidence.  She put her hands forward and closed her eyes, making the building's lights flicker and electronics go crazy. She snapped her eyes open and unleashed large arcs of lightning from her fingers that sent the dummy into a counter, but she wasn't done. She went over to it and held her hands on its body and it started burning from the inside. "Jason. I cannot demonstrate my next one w-without a l-live person." She nervously stated. I probably shouldn't have but I stepped forward and took her hands because I knew what was about to happen.

"Hold no ill feeling towards her class, she's just showing you her gifts." I looked at all of them then sighed. She put her hands in mine then looked at me with worry before the world went black. I was at Serenity again, walking through the streets and hearing the screams of the dying and burning. I was running through the halls of the facility again and dodging the brainwashed prisoners who tried to kill me at every turn. Images started flashing through my head before I screamed and knelt down. "I-I'm so sorry Jason! You shouldn't have let-." I held up a finger then stood up and wiped my eyes. "It's okay, Alice. Chill out, I remember every night as it is..."

The class had scooted away from us and near a corner, collectively laughing or whispering in terror. "Nightmare, class. A telepathic ability that brings out the worst fears and memories you have locked away in your minds, so I wouldn't laugh or spread rumors if I were you. Go back to the line, Alice." I said in a flat and irritated tone towards the class. She hugged me tightly then went back to the line. "You're my student from now on. James Mack, you're up!" One after the other showed off their unique abilities and I split the group up into three and dismissed them. Grace was in the other room and Zack had taken his group to the mansion.

I sat at my desk and started checking off things on my list before looking back up to see a small disturbance between the recruits and Alice. "Why do we have to have you..." One of them said, flicking a pencil at her. Alice ignored them and read her book, glancing at me every few minutes or so. "Hey freak! Listen to me when I talk." A guy shouted, he raised his two fingers to shoot a blast of energy at her. I stood up and threw him across the room before he could and the blast hit a window. I glared at them and sat back down a few more minutes before getting back up and addressing them.

"Make no mistake Legends, I will not hesitate to discipline you on the spot, like dear old Jack there. Alice is not a freak and is a returning member to this clan. You respect everyone here with the same respect you give your friends and family, because we are your family for the next several years. Alice, see me afterwards please." I smiled at her then scowled at the rest of the class. "Now I will assign sparring buddies, since there is uneven students I will personally teach Ms. Callaway myself." I pointed at Jackson then Sarah. "You two, will be partners." I pointed again at Samuel Quinten and Abigail Chase, easily a good pair and they got along. "You guys, buddies." Westin Finley and Xavier Talon were the weakest in hand to hand and relied on energy based attacks and their weapons so I put them together and the others based on faults and teamwork.

"Now face your partner and stun them, no maiming of any sorts or get them on the ground." I faced Alice and smiled. "This is class so don't expect me to go easy on you." She smirked at me. "Wasn't going to." She sent a mind blast at me but I stood my ground and created a mental barrier. "How?" She asked in astonishment before I sent a telekinetic blast at her, knocking her down. I helped her back up and shrugged. "I got pretty good when Gramps was alive and while in that facility, thats why you can't read my thoughts sometimes." She scowled and blushed, I noticed sometimes when we were out and about she would try to worm in my head and read me but I already had up a wall. "You knew?" She asked nervously. "Uh, yeah. It's like a little itch at the back of my head and that's how I know someone's trying to read my thoughts."

I looked at the others and saw them helping up their partners or incapacitating them. "Keep trying until you find an effective way to do so!" I faced Alice again and smiled. "Telepathy won't work on me, try something else." I formed barriers on my fists and shins. She nodded and flipped into the air and came down hard, making me kneel and almost topple over. I launched her back and she recovered mid-air before landing. She tried it again but this time when she connected her foot to my arms I realized she used electricity and that knocked me back and on the ground. She landed in front of me and smirked. "How was I?" I took her hand and stood up. "If you make that into a surprise attack, I think that's a good attack. But if there was space I could have launched you or flung you to the ground." She looked down. "Oh, well then but at least you told me and didn't spring it on me." I shrugged. "I don't want to hurt you but I want you to be aware of any opponent's strength." I held up a hand to the class. "Okay that's enough for today." They helped one another up and stood. "Your homework is to turn in a two paragraph report on your buddy's strength." They groaned but then went to their little friend groups and left the room.

"I think I can relate to my teachers now. I feel proud yet troubled by the bullies and troublemakers but I know that they don't really know what's to come."
