Leadership

I set Alice down at the doorstep and suddenly the insignia on my jacket grew heavier, I have never been the leader of anything, someone else always took charge for me. In school with group projects I was always working under someone else instead of leading. I took a breath then opened the door to the mansion. About fifteen doors lined up the first floor and another twenty the second floor, five of them were bathrooms, the others were bedrooms. The whole placed smelled of honeysuckles and flowers and the kitchen had the scent of baked goods and slight smell of dinner cooking.

"This is...wow." I marveled at everything the massive mansion offered to speculate at, everything was so supersized. The living room was more or less the size of a waiting room at the hospital, The hallways were big enough to where a small car could drive through, and I imagined the bathrooms were set up like school bathrooms or locker rooms, but the kitchen was small in comparison but cozy. Outside the mansion in the backyard was a gigantic pool and pool deck.

"Yep and its all free to live here and the food, of course whenever you go out around town you have to pay but money around here is never short." She sighed with relief, yet she seemed distress. "Paradise right before they ship us out, some of these guys don't even know." I wrapped my arms in a loose loop around her chest and placed my head on her shoulders.

"It's the least they could do before we fight back, Rose. If we don't do something about it, who will though? They can't pit regular humans versus neo-humans, it would be basic slaughter and mass killings. We, the most powerful in the global population, have to fight back in order to restore order and remove the threats." I felt almost robotic accepting the fact that we are drafted into this, to be trained to kill or disable any Republic associates and carry out operations meant for the military.

"I guess that's true. Different topic! Introductions for everyone here at the moment, which basically means the nerds and bullied and shy people." A small and bouncy white haired girl came around the corner, vine tattoos riding up her arm to her neck, she froze in place when she saw me and smiled nervously. She walked behind Alice and whispered something.

"Ugh, Gracie! He's my boyfriend and the new mentor!" Gracie blushed intensely and looked flustered. "Ack! Don't say that so loud!" Her accent was slightly European. Her attitude was somewhat shy but secretly feisty. "Uhh, hi?" Gracie slowly walked up to me, forcing down a smile. She held out her hand. "I'm Grace Shevallia Johnson, but you can call me Grace or Gracie." Alice snickered. "Or Sheva." Grace blushed again. "Oh shush." I shook her hand and smiled. "I'm Jason Lai Wood, call me Jason." She started stuttering, I took my hand back slowly and chuckled. Alice rolled her eyes and slid her hand down Grace's back, the air popped and Grace yelped.

"Ow! Protective much?" Alice smiled devilishly and skipped to my side. "Shall we go to the kitchen for tea?" Grace, after rubbing her butt, perked up and smiled. I nodded and we walked into the seemingly cozy and small kitchen. "This is kinda tiny for a place with about thirty people." Grace shrugged. "It's the secondary kitchen, mostly made for private talks and time to think by yourself, great spot for drinking tea!" She ran to the kitchen and filled up a tea kettle with water, she set it on the stove to boil and sat down with us at the small square glass table.

"So, runner, brawn, psychic, energy, or support?" Grace asked. "What?" I was confused, what did she mean? "He hasn't been classified yet, he's unique." Alice smiled when she said "unique". Grace winked at me. "Unique indeed." Alice chuckled silently. "What?" Grace looked puzzled as to why Alice was laughing. "You say that in a flirting way but you'll never see him shirtless, ha!" I turned red and smiled awkwardly as Grace tried to think of something to say but nothing but stuttering came out. "Ugh that's not fair!" I held up my hands. "Can we chill out here? What were you talking up Grace?"

"Those who attend here at the academy are classified as different things, kinda like classes in a video game. Runners are usually speedsters, light-benders,technologically smart, or the agile who can freerrun and do reconnaissance or gather information from a stronghold without being detected. Brawn, are usually people with super strength or those who are durable, they can bust through walls, move heavy or large objects, and form a blockade or formation to protect important personnel or objective. Psychics are those who can manipulate with their minds, project nightmares or thoughts into ones mind or use telekinesis to move things. They are used for either stealth missions or siege. Energy, a class that means you can manipulate either one of the elements or electricity or something else. Supports are the non-combative or healers, they either have powers that are not particularly needed in the field or they are on hand medics."

"Um..four out of five?." Grace raised an eyebrow. "No wonder they placed you in charge of the, now weakest, clan. It's rare to see someone with four abilities, excluding variant abilities." I opened my mouth to ask but Alice started to speak. "Evolved main abilities, energy users may find themselves able to manipulate another element or source of power, Psychics are able to use telekinesis or telepathy to a fuller extent; moving larger objects or entering peoples minds and making them feel certain emotions and so on" I stared into space, no wonder they had Alice hunt me down, they have a plan and a big one too.

"What can you do?" Grace smiled with intrigue. I shrugged. "I can make and manipulate plasma, by the time I was ten I was able to use fire and electricity. I can use telekinesis and fling or move objects, haven't been able to look in ones mind or give them nightmares but I can create barriers. I am strong and have stopped a car from hitting my mom and I can do parkour." She nodded thoughtfully. Alice smiled and poked my side. "He's also a Weapon Wielder..."Grace's mouth dropped. "Oh my gosh, they're so rare! I've only met one and it was our old mentor, that's so cool." I tugged nervously at my shirt and felt pressured. "It's also a burden." I said nervously and leaned backwards. Grace stared at me then looked outside.

"They've been obsessing over something for about a year now, I know why."
